I finally. Ordered mine your video help me narrow down this this stereo lol .. i also order a USB extender hub that take place of the cigarette lighter so i don't have to reach in my glove box for my phone . I locate it in my center consol with a short USB for my phone lol
I hope you like it as much as I like mine, just an FYI the Gen 5 is about to get released. Hopefully it isn't too much different, but I did see that they said it should work with XM. Linkswell said they no longer will be trying to get the Gen 4 and older to be compatible with XM.
@@hdrolling im fine with out the XM radio . I dont use it much when i had xm ....i just hope they stay with updates even when the gen 5 comes out . From what i heard these android stereo is like a hack version of an android phone lol which is a plus lol
@@quyenbui2263 No I don't think so, I think you can change the picture but it's still has to go through that process. Not sure what the temps are where you live but it boots up quicker in warmer temps, I notice in the winter here in NC even though it's not that cold it does boot up a little slower.
Im from Louisiana boot up time is 15 sec . Im a lil worry now i email the seller walt from adc . Asking if it supports wireless android auto and he reply no and that he doesn't recommend using android on this unit lol
Thanks for the video, hard to find real reviews on these things. Not sure if your truck did this stock but on my 2015 Denali, it has a feature where when you answer a phone call it pauses any music or videos playing but also turns down your climate fan. To quite everything down. Is that feature present? Also, did you have to install a mic and with the unit? My truck already has a mic and GPS antenna. Not sure if those can be used. Thanks.
Yes it mutes the music but I've never noticed if the climate fans slow down, I never really hear mine running unless I first start the truck. Yes you need to install a mic for the hands free, antenna is only needed if you buy the optional IGo Nav. If you don't buy the IGO you will need to use your phone data or phone or truck wifi to run a Nav app. Your factory shark fin is no longer connected as well as your factory mic, you also lose XM for now unless you use the app. Most of the features require wifi. If you watch my first video most of this is covered.
Curious what trim your truck is? I have a loaded 18 ltz z71 with just about every option. I’m wondering what I’m going to lose? Lane departure? Collision avoidance? Etc. what have you noticed you gave up with this? I’m so on the fence right now but it looks so cool!
Mine is an LTZ but doesn't have the tech package with the lane departure or collision avoidance so I'm not sure if those features are affected. So far the only things I don't have are the XM via the antennae. But I have the app and it works the same. I also no longer have the screen on the DIC above the steering wheel that shows what radio station is playing. All the other DIC screens work just not the audio part, but I never viewed the audio there anyways. Normally just the have the trans temp there.
@@alexnuzzi4780 The Gen 5 is out for GM now and is suppose to have the XM with the r on Facebook the best place to ask would be in the Linkswell owner group. soon.
What is this upgraded HD camera you were talking about? I have a 17 Silverado. My rear camera is fine during the day but at night all the light sources blow out the picture looks like a blurry lens flare or something. I had the dealer replace the camera but it yielded similar results. I fear it's just a poor quality. The camera on our 13 Cruze is flawless during the day and crystal clear at night.
It's a two year old video, I let them know about a day after I posted this video and they sent out an update in about a week. Gen 5 is out now for aver a year so this video is pretty much obsolete.
Great video I have a gen 4 never done the update but now I followed the instructions on how to download the update to a thumb drive but when I plug it to my radio nothing pops out or I can’t find anything that’s indicates and update like in yours
I have a few small issues that I would like to fix and tried on my own but can’t figure it out now that the software has changed. 1) my truck reads my mileage in Km and my temp in Celsius 2) my back up cam is fuzzy I can’t figure out where to go to put it from 6 bit to 8 bit that usually fixes the problem. 3) and when I hit phone link the CarPlay isn’t working. I have the Gen 4 for the Ram any info would be much appreciated. Thank you
I noticed the new update with leaving the climate control on the bottom which is awesome. However, are you able to still engage your rear window heater/defrost on this system? That’s the only thing I’m hung up on. Living in Northern Minnesota, need to be able to have that.
Yes, it's one of the physical buttons to the right of the screen. Recirculate on top, then front def/ rear def (and mirror heater is you have them) and fan speed up and down.
Hey Jeff! I just got this radio installed on my 2014 GMC Sierra. Rear camera does not work. It shows a green screen. Any ideas of what can I do to make the factory camera work?
I'm assuming you did plug in the camera RCA cable to the unit? Best best is to go back and make sure you connected to the correct port. When you say rear I'm guessing you mean when you put it in reverse? If that is correct does the camera work when you hit the cam icon?
Looking for this on my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Al Terrain. With the Bose the GEN 3 lost all Fade control. Does the Fade work on the GEN 4 and the Bose adapter? Did you need the Bose adapter? The only thing they dont do is the brushed metal bezel that comes with my All Terrain package They only offer the painted plastic bezels. Why is there an extra USB cable? The GEN 3 had an adapter to plug into the factory 3 USB ports for phone mirroring etc. I'm confused.
If you have Bose you need the separate module, never tried the fade so I'm not sure about that. On the gen 4 the USB cable is the only one that you can connect your phone and thumb drives to, you will no longer be able to use the other usb's in your truck for the radio. They will be charge only. Gen 4 has no adapter to make the rest work with the radio. I also have a part one video that explains a little bit of the questions you asking, this was just a 6 month update.
Hi jeff, thanks for the video, quick question for you. In the OEM radio in the setting there is a setting under vehicle, you can turn on window roll down for your key fob. Holding down the unlock button rolls them down. Do you know if this loses that feature?
Thank you for the update! Can you tell me if you are able to access the vehicle settings menu which is in the stock system? I want to upgrade my 2014 Silverado, but I am on the fence to upgrade to the better GM stock system, or go with the Gen 4 Linkswell.
Hi Jeff, I have a 2016 3500 Dually sport and was wondering if you have any other videos of the other Mods you did to your truck? I really like the way you set your rig up!
You can but its a lot of wiring, Linkswell is in the process of making a module that will make it easier. Was suppose to be done almost a year ago and haven't heard anything new because of the chip shortage. My truck has all the cameras still installed from my intellihaul system, just waiting for the module to release. The other way is to buy a PAC module and tap into your turn signals. I almost did this but decided to wait so I didn't have to do a punch of extra wiring.
If you use this link and scroll down to were it says "multi camera mod" you can see one way of trying to do it. www.adcmobile.com/product/gen-4-t-style-radio-for-2014-19-gm-trucks/
Thanks bro yeah linkswell told me about the module but only have them for ford at the moment they said they wouldnt know when the GM modules would be available which is a disappointment but thanks for the link ill check it out see how much work would be required without the module 🙏
Hey Jeff , have you had any issues with the touch screen NOT working ? The AC does not blow past #6 on the dial , it cuts off. any ideas are welcomed . TIA
No mine has always worked fine. Is this a new install? Did you set up the ac control for a chevy? They don't come pre set, you have to do it yourself. If it was working fine and just started you could try to update the unit, I do mine about once a month. If you tried that hit the RST little button on the front to see if that helps. Just guessing here, I don't work on these or anything. Few things I have seen on the Linkswell facebook groups.
Why won't my rear door speakers not work when I hit a balance chk on unit? Silverado has the Bose system with the whole plug and play kit installed with the Linkswell Gen 4 head unit
fade is disabled when using an aftermarket radio on the Bose system. You would have to run all new speaker wires from the unit and bypass the Bose adapter. The Bose amplifier only gets its input through two channels, not 4, and fade is actually a digital communication between the factory radio and the Bose amplifier, if you fade your radio all the way to the front, that will give the amplifier all of the input it needs, and all of the speakers in the truck will work. You just won't have fader control.
@@hdrolling I truly appreciate your quick response and info, just need ta ask you one more thing to Clearfield my next move,, I just purchased a pair of Kenwood component speakers for the front and Kenwood back door speakers as well, so I'm I to understand that the Bose amp is useless if I connect speaker wires straight from the head unit? In thee event that I feel like I need higher Definition sound on my highs and mids , I've also got a KAC-D3104 amp ta juice up them speakers. Will I be able to use the balance after all's installed

Can u please tell me where you bought the HD backup camera? I have a 2016 an I search around an can't find a clear answer as to the part number for the HD camera. Thank you
I have a 2015 Denali Diesel that im thinking of doing this in. Just curious if you had to do it again would you? Juggling the idea of selling the truck when the 2022 models come out.
Yes I love this radio, so far it's been more than I had hoped and the company has been adding features pretty often. I like some of the newer GM trucks but hate that there isn't a lot aftermarket upgrades yet. That's why I waited before trading my LMM to get an L5P.
@@hdrolling nice.. yea I’m jealous of the l5p motor, i did twin turbo my lml and a bunch of other things.. she runs strong.. did u do anything for subs for your stereo?
@@Djreversal no, funny you mention that as I've been researching replacing my center console 5" bose sub with eith a JL audio stealth sub or one of the ebay special boxes with a kicker sub. I have rear seat storage that I want to keep so replacing the center console sub and adding an amp for it will be what I end up doing, Having some color matched headlights arrive today so I've been waiting to finish that install before I move onto my next project.
@@hdrolling nice, yea I’m talking with a company that does an under the rear seat setup. Never got to hear how the console replacement sub upgrade sounds, tough call, but i definitely am interested in this android setup, it looks really nice, need the wireless apple play adapter and just to get the reverse camera to work. I don’t have Gm wifi so I’d have to use my cell as a hotspot i guess. Sucks the radio doesn’t have cellular built in.
How do you listen to Bluetooth music and have ur cell phone plugged into CarPlay while using navigation? Or watching Netflix or some other app and still use CarPlay? My Gen 4 won’t do both at the same time. Bluetooth turned on both iPhone and screen and into the CarPlay usb.
Never tired doing any of the things your asking about, my truck has wifi so I almost never need to plug my phone in for carplay. I just use the app on my linkswell for all my nav music and movie streaming.
No you lose that version of XM, you can download an app if you have an account. Linkswell has developed a harness to work with the stock fin but XM has to approve it for Lnkswell to use it, been over a year and still not approved.
Doesn't come with an HMI or the connections to connect to it? Yes, there are wires that connect to the HMI box under the glove box, one for the back up camera/ one for the front USB's and one for the armrest USB. If you don't have USB ports or a back up camera you don't need to connect to the HMI. The radio will come with a USB so you can connect to the unit.
I think it dims a little with the headlights on, and you can adjust the dim level in the features. I don't have this truck any longer so its a little vague to me now but I don't ever remember it being too bright at night. It has a day back ground that it white and a night back ground that it black.
When you connect your cell phone mobile hotspot does it automatically connect everytime you get in and turn it on or do you have to go in the settings and set it up every time ?
For me I have to set it up every time I want to use the phone hotspot, But 99% of the time I use the trucks onstar GM wifi. It connects automatically, never have to do anything. I'm not sure if I deleted the trucks wifi network from the unit if it would auto connect to the phone or not, I never tried. Typically when I use my phone hot spot on anything I have to manually connect (computers, tablets etc)
Yes, I paid $25 a month for unlimited onstar data the first year and this second year when I renewed it dropped down to $20 a month. You can use your phone hotspot but you have to connect every time you start up. And without internet it's just a big radio. I use RU-vid and Netflix every weekday waiting in the school carpool line. Helps with the wait big time.
@@johnmacera1675 My speakers are all stock but everything else works. Heated and cooled seats still use the stock button so they are not affected. Remote start is not part of the radio so not affected, for Bose you also need toe Bose adapter that's separate from the radio.
@@johnmacera1675 You do need to wire the steering wheel, that part is not plug and play. They have Gen 3 install videos, pretty much the same for Gen 4.
You have two options, you can pay the extra $100 for the IGo Nav or that is already on our system but you have to pay to unlock it. It uses a separate Nav antennae and doesn't require wifi to work. But it's not updatable and the maps are from 2017. The other option is to use the google map app or WAZE app that requires wifi , so you either need to use your veicles wifi or connect your phone wifi to have those work. A third option would be to connect your phone with the usb cord and use the same apps off your phone onto the radio with carplay. I pay $20 a month for the GM onstar unlimited wifi and love it, pretty muck need it if you want to be able to watch youtube or netflix.
I never tried downloading music but you can movies so I guess it would work? But yes you can play both off from a USB or external hard drive. It only has so much memory so the more you download to the unit the slower it will get just like any computer.
Not with the GM radio, yet. Linkswell said they are shooting for this spring to release a GM module to add plug and play cameras. Right now you can buy a harness and do a bunch or wire taping to add additional cameras but I'm going to wait for the box to release.
Too much to list, but the GEN 4 is faster and less glitchy. Also you cane wireless update the unit. The Gen 3 you have to download the update to a computer and use a thumb drive to go update the unit. The extra cost of the Gen 4 is worth it.
