Lovely performing and sounding turntable. Always was. However the hyperbole and cultist dementia it spawned (thanks to it's maker Ivor and some of the British audio press) was an unfortunate side effect.
Chop suey isn't anything, it's translation is from "whatever-is-available" hence no set ingredients nor specific recipe. Saki is used here in UK as a term for sarcastic. Alas Ashley you can be a bit of a clueless bellend.
There was always too much pissing about with the Linn. It was good but surrounded by myth and hype. Compared to the likes of Michell and SME it was rather shoddy in build. Recent times have seen a lot of better grade materials but the armboard is still feeble. There are many turntables that surpass it.
@Plato's Metaphysician Over the years, Linn have definitely improved the materials used and the quality of finish, but I don't think it comes close to anything out of SME.
@Plato's Metaphysician Of course the SME 30 is some serious money. I've listened to it and was stunned by the sound. I didn't think it was possible for LP to be so close to a mastertape. It made CD and even HD 192 audio seem flat and somehow lifeless. There's also the exotic Rega Niaid, but not many get the experience to listen to that either. Either way, analogue is still improving and with new 45 rpm LP Analogue reissues, the future looks bright.
