I think thats the problem ...we compare to the mattel figure ...its a super 7 figure now so it will be different , the only way to get one that looks like the mattel version is to buy one ... it is what it is at the end of the day ...if super 7 didnt go ahead & make these , we would be stuck with just a couple of the team .... especially when cheetara tygra & jaga are released .i dont want to look back thinking i missed an opportunity when this line grows ... so yep ,im backing it & see where we go with it ... 😊
I think that Super 7 screwed the pooch with the hands, it seems to me that the original plan was to have a pair of gripping hands that would have the horizontal hinge and the other one was suposed to have a vertical hinge articulation but somehow they ended up just packaging in 2 pairs of hands that are the same (I dont think that the grip is any different), its little things like these that always bother me specially since a vertical hinged pair of hands would have been great for this figure. BTW I kind of like the paint deco on the Mattel headsculpt better than this one, its a little sharper in the eyes and the wash on the hair makes it look a little better.
@Mephisto Emperor that should be the price at BEST, really should be $25 on average, maybe if they cut on doing the extremely extravagant packaging they do (which I like that they do that but if it's cuts into the time and budget for engineering these to be better figures... than I'll take some more basic packaging), maybe that'll help save some of the the cost on these toys.
Same horrible Mattel mold, Super7 wasn't make a new correct tooling with that good Four Horsemen prototype. Lion-O is shorter, disproportionate and keeps the horrible abs/torso gaps. The prototype is the correct size, it isn't the Panthro size or smaller than Jackalman, that is a very serious issue. They should making new tooling, not using old bad ones from Mattel, is the main character damn. And about the pins, If they removed the pins in TMNT, perfectly can do it with ThunderCats, the new figures like Slithe will not have pins and this wave 1 will be totally inconsistent with them.
Someone in this comment section was saying that this Super7 Lion-O is better than the TMNT Ultimates here are some of my thoughts on that and some new ones added here and there for context. There is room for some arguments, but ultimately no. The Raphael figure has problems but from what I've seen, it's a newly sculpted figure that actually tried doing something that some TMNT toys hasn't done before like the waist joint Super7 did, loose but could be improved in future waves (dear god I hope they get improved). This looks exactly like the Mattel figure, which was OK AT BEST for the PRICE they sold it for originally which was $30, the Super7 Lion-O is anywhere from $45 to $80 depending on the shipping and taxes as well as potentially customs if ordered from outside the US. This was supposed to greatly improved upon what Mattel did, if not a whole other beast of a toy with the potential greatness that Four Horsemen can bring. Like I said earlier, there's definitely room for arguments, the TMNT Ultimates have problems and quite a bit of issues I find not worth base $45 (MINIMUM) but they don't seem quite as bad this and I still see more reason to buy the TMNT Ultimates than this. At least they're doing what they were advertising their TMNT figures as, remakes of the original Playmates TMNT toys that no one but Playmates has tried doing before, The Mattel toys were basically the original remakes so Super7 could've added significantly more on to what standard has been set before if not make a new and better toy altogether. That and I believe at least the Raphael Ultimate is significantly better than this figure, the TMNT Ultimates looks like it could be some of their best engineered and sculpted toys in general when compared to what they've made before in this scale and I still think they got to do extremely better with the articulation and quality of them. I say this as I want the Super7 Thundercats and all their Ultimates as a whole to be better than what they are now for paying customers, especially for the price point that they are asking for MINIMUM ($45).
To add to this comment, vastly improving their Ultimates across the board would actually be both good for paying customers as well as Super7. Better figures will almost always guarantee better sales, the Raphael Ultimate that I feel is one of Super7's best figures ever made (one which I still have issues with it's looseness, paint job here and there and that the articulation still could be so much better than what it is now) has sold very well and has quite a bit of demand for a re-release. I emailed Super7 Support to see if they had any left in stock in their stores or any warehouses and responded back with a no but said they've been discussing internally for re-releasing Raphael. Whether they will or not I do not know, but it shows to me that again better made toys get better sales. It's as much for their sake as much as it is ours, I actually want to support this company and want them to succeed, I want them to make or remake toys that are very much worth the asking price, if not made cheaper while maintaining better quality so it could lead to more customers! But as it stands they really aren't there yet, Super7 has the potential to be be really really good and so I would like for them to get there as soon as possible.
Watching this review made me go dig mine out and actually open it and check it out. The hands were surprisingly soft plastic. All of the points of articulation are good on mine. But the one thing well maybe two things I didn't like was the hairy claw shield didn't have a removable sword as well as a hole to put the closed sword in. So that cuts out some poses as well as none of the hands could hold either claw shield.
this is a re-issue of a collectible people had from Mattel. and i don't see much hostility, just disappointment from the majority. it definitely doesn't look like the promo pics unfortunately. i was on the fence about getting him, but don't think i'll bother now.
stahscream Okay, I’ll call it hostility you call it disappointment, that’s fair. I personally thought some of the minor differences looked better or at least different but not clearly worse but I just thought it was odd how universally negative the opinion was loose torso aside didn’t warrant that in my opinion but this is why I’m not a collector of anything. They just don’t seem to ever be satisfied.
Props to Super 7 for somehow getting away with selling $45 figures that have more limited articulation and QC issues than mass market $20 figures from Hasbro.
I prefer The Sword of Omens from Super 7 but Mattels face is more accurate to the cartoon Lion-O. It seems ALL of Super 7 figs have some loose joint issues. You would think they would have this fixed by now.
Love this Super 7 ThunderCats Lion-O figure 😍, he is an awesome looking figure and cool to see the comparison between the Mattel and Super 7 figures, you think they would give more variation in the extra hands, but would definitely buy him ☺💙
Great review Dan! Really looking forward to these but man the QC for Super 7 sucks sometimes. I know every company has issues but for their initial line aqcuired from Mattel you'd think they'd be darn near perfect imo. No way an ab-joint should be like that on an almost $50 figure. I do agree though that a variant in original LJN colors would be pretty sweet, lol.
the paint on the super7 face looks sloppy compared to the mattel one. makes the face look odd. cool review as always dan. I think I'll wait to see what wav 2 is like. since there afew new original molds
I’m buying this because of the extra accessories and the fact that you can actually wear the claw and the sword at the same time because the one Mattel did you couldn’t take the sword out of the claw.
This video actually made me again decide that I have to get the old one. I'm disappointed that you didn't make a bigger deal about the colors and lion-os eyes. The Mattel Version is all cartoon. This one however is more Carrot top. Not cool PD, I expected better advocacy from you. Super7 dropped the ball, they sold us completely different prototypes and you know it! Tell your buddy how f**ked up it is to lie to customers and to continue the course on this property.
Who here want's Thundercats done by NECA? Half the price of S7 and 10 times the quality. Btw, the really angry face is totally cross-eyed and not in a "focussed" way.
@unclassified true, don't have those. Good for them if they have good stuff to, the stuff I got to see and hold was just not up to par with others @ that pricepoint. If they would drop prices 20 bucks for these figs, I would have no problem with it. But these are 40-60 dollar figures, even more expensive here in Europe and they're just not worth it imo.
You're not getting a NECA for very much less than this unless you buy it in stores. And you can completely forget about finding them in stores. So $40 online is it.
Got mine today. Joints in mine are tight, not at all floppy. No major paint issues. Only thing I will say against this figure is concerning the peg that holds the claw-shield to his belt. Mine broke right off when I removed the shield from his hip. I intend to display mine wearing the claw shield so it didn't bother me, but still, for a figure like this that is something that shouldn't happen.
9-1-20 *Super7 should change its name to "Bait-And-Switch."* An honest ad for this figure should read: "With the Ultimate ThunderCats from Bait-And-Switch, you can relive the disappointment of the Mattel figure, like never before. Each 7-inch super-articulated deluxe action figure, comes straight from a slave wage Chinese commie factory to you, horribly painted, and featuring a huge variety of interchangeable parts and accessories, some repeats of each other. Product Features: 7 inches (17.78cm) Made of cheap and shiny plastic Super articulated Beautifully painted (To the visually impaired) Huge variety of interchangeable parts and accessories, with some accessories being repeats."
I can't be the only that can see randy Orton's face in the regular super 7 model haha and his in battle mode looks like Zack Morris from saved by the bell
shame about this, these are obviously not better than the original Mattel releases, but it will be nice to fill out the cast of characters. maybe super-7 will try to clean the paint apps up in the future? I'm still looking forward to that ultimate form mumm-ra!
It's on Toybro's version, too. Check out 11:09 in Toybro's video. The difference is that Toybro's paint runs from the hairline to the the brows whereas Pixel Dan's paint extends to the nose.
Mine is ok with abs, but have you noticed that the little peg on the belt is really fragile... If you clip not frontaly it breaks easily! Plus, the furry claw has the hole opposite done: - little hole towards the peg and the big hole on the outside... You cant clip without enlarge a bit with a cutter for toys.
Already cancelled my pre orders. Super 7 basically lied to us about fixing these figures. Exact same problems and in some ways even worse in terms of the paint job. Brian said they would fix the belt peg... nope lied about that too. Super 7 is over priced and basically con artists with these thunder cats figures.
I just got mine and the figure wasn't loose anywhere at all however the peg that holds on to the gauntlet broke off within seconds of taking it out of the package
Late to the game and cannot afford to spend $1000+ on MOSC vintage. Just ordered the first wave and preordered the other 3 waves. Imagine if they did a Thundertank and Cats Liar to go with this line 🙏🏻 great video bro!
the face is different, the box is different and the chest is different from the ones shown in the BBTS page , the ones shown in the BBTS page looks much better than this, is not that expensive but is definitely disappointing that is not accurate from the original presentation.
agreed, i dont mind so much about the box but the BBTS pic definitely doesn't reflect what we see here (they should have noted it was a promo pic for sure). its a bummer
The only things that bother me is the slight gap in the torso hinge and the weird multiple gripping hands. Other than that I don’t get all the hate. I love the snarling face and the show accurate claw shield. It SHOULD be shiny Lion-O wards off Mumm-Ra with his reflection in the shield.
I swear the alternate set of fists was suppose to have the joint turned 90 degrees so he could do a proper sword held aloft pose and they just.. forgot? Was hoping it was just a mistake with early review copies.. but sure seems like it's just all of them. Wish american companies would swap to figma/revoltech style joints for wrists so we just turn the peg and it can act either way.
I wasn't into figure collecting when the Mattel figures came out, so I'm glad I stuck with my preorder for these guys. Sure, this new one doesn't look the exact same as the old ones, but I don't think it looks objectively worse. If you were looking for an improvement, then I guess you'll be disappointed, but I'll be glad to have the extra accessories.
Well this is pretty disappointing. I mostly grew up in the 00's and never saw the original and missed out on the 2011 reboot so sadly grew up without any version of ThunderCats. I've been watching original on Hulu recently though and I actually love it and I'll finally try the reboot after that but I know it'll be sad when I get to the end and want it to come back like everyone else. So I'd be all for some figures but from the ones I saw on display and everything I've heard about them it sounds like the end product just isn't good enough. Obviously I don't have the nostalgia to look over major flaws so I guess I'll be skipping this whole line. Hopefully someone else gets the rights and the price point Hasbro, NECA, or McFarlane would put it at would be way more affordable anyway so ideally one of them would get it. I don't see much of anything else happening though unless something else gets started with the brand like a new cartoon (that isn't Roar), the original or 2011 series is resurrected, a live action movie, or even a AAA video game which I think would be awesome.
As I didn't Got the original Matteo one I'm glad to have ordered that version, but I still haven't got mine even though it's still more than a year I ve ordered and paid for it. I'm also surprised to see so much loose joint at the torso, I really hope it's not for the whole series line .I m kind of worried. I know things have been difficult with covid and so but it's been very long to get this.. I know Ultimates version for Motu were always more expensive than regular motu classics release so I really hope it's worth it. Thanks for the review Dan and great comparison with the previous older versions
So I didn’t need jackleman for this wave so I went through bbts to preorder them and yesterday I got a shipment notice. While I can’t wait to get them what I don’t understand is why am I still waiting for the super7 tmnt wave 1 when I thought they shipped first? At least that’s what I thought brian said in your interview. I realize I’m going through a 3rd party but thought maybe someone might know.
Kinda of cool, to display, it's not like people playing with them or are they 😂 but anyways I just got my notifications from BBTS processing my order, didn't have to wait long, I'll be waiting for the wave 2-3 notifications...hey it's still the Thundercats that's all that matters display them and let em shine.
@@TrevorToonArt it does last. For a long while. Unleaded you live it all the time. Every day. But just need to. Get s few more drops and. It's god as new again
Shiny face as usual. You can see the difference with the painted Mattel version. It just works better. Surprise surprise! Lack of silver on the sword. What is that about?....Somebody forget something? Peg sticking out on the side of his waist...Is that there to be broken? Not a fan. Also looks hideous. I guess it's a personal preference, but would prefer to have a small hole in it's place and the plug on the claw. That's the easy version. You could always go the magnet route, but to be fair, that's a bit more sophisticated then I guess that we can expect from them. Lack of space in the claw to fit the sword. Again...bad design/laziness. Is there really any other reason to why that wasn't fixed? We had the same issue before no? Geez...just sculpt that out so that it can slide in... Similar hands. Again, aside from the lack of attention to detail what's the purpose here? Cheap throw-ins? Then you've some miscellaneous other stuff as well. All things that have already talked about, but BAH! With the PD video, had to mention it again...
If this Figure the way it is now Came out Back in the 80s It sure Wouldn't be sold for 60$ And I can't imagine many parents back in the 80s Spending that much for a toy! Toy Companies now Adays like Necca And Bandi are Kinda Ridiculous with the Cost of the Merchandise
It looks like on your version of the super 7 version hes got heavier eyeliner, Hopefully mine won't have that. Lol the angry Lion-O Looks like he's taking a dump of Omens.
man memories are funny aren't they, I had the LJN Lion-o figure amongst other from the Thundercats line and I remember them being amazing so life like. This is the first time I've seen it in years...........really terrible isn't it. Suppose it just goes to show we have great imaginations as kids
I got mine in the mail the other day. The colors are so dark that it looks like a dirty version of Lion-O. Kind of disappointed. It’s a cartoon so to me, the colors need to be substantially brighter.
There are waaaay too many whiners in the comments. These figures are great. And that's coming from someone who owns the Mattel versions. Yall sound butthurt and I find it extremely funny. Please, do continue... Lmfao Go enjoy your garbage Marvel Legends, I hear they're only $20 lol.
Beyond disappointed....... This is the 2nd review I've seen with the floppy abs problem on this new Super7 version of the figure. $45 for this!?! It's basically a re-issue figure and Super7 still can't get it right.... Also, you mess up Lion-O and the whole line falls appart IMO. I really think I'm done with Super7 after this. I just can't trust their products - Too overpriced for what you get, and too many past burns. I get they are an independant toy company, but they are trying to indicate they're providing a premium product, and yet these figures are turning out with lower quality than similar types of mass retail offerings. If there was a problem with the original Lion-O mold, then it should have been resculpted - paying attention to reviews of the original figure should have been enough to tell them that. Super7's production practices just seem disorgansied and sloppy. It's a real shame - I had really hoped they could get their act togehter for this particular series. Thundercats deserve far better treatment, but get the short end of the stick yet again.....
Come on PD. Are you blind? Mattel's face is so much better and toon accurate, which is what the ultimate version is supposed to be. New face looks droopy and bored. Terrible job on the eyes, eyebrows and colors. The Cat symbol on the sword is bad. No proper storage for the Small sword on the claw shield when its on the arm. Very dissapointing. I may get this to keep in box till a better version comes out. No plan to get any of the others. Not after seeing this first wave.
I understand the appeal of releasing a line that looks and feels exactly like a previous succesful one that everyone still wants but can't get for a decent price....but I'd rather have a company attempt MODERN engineering and try to make a LION-O that can compete with the best efforts of japanese imports such as MAFEX. That ab joint is incomprehensible to me.
That logo on the Eye of Thundera is deeply disappointing. As soon as I opened mine up, it took the smile from my face. Well, that and the peeling paint on the chin, the blob of black paint on the thigh, and the red streaks on his belt and forehead. What happened to the quality of the William Stout Collection? I thought Super7 had finally learned from their mistakes, but they're just as low quality as ever.
in the cartoon, the length or height of his claw shield is between the lower part of his crotch to the upper part of his knee, or simply slightly bigger than his hand, these 4 is actually over sized. the eye of thundera at the belt - Super 7 is much better
I’m passing on these thundercats figures because of quality control issues & the paint job is not good enough / he’s glove isn’t it supposed to be gold not brown 🤔 / that gold looks like brown / & he’s sword will look better in silver / im very disappointed 😔 / i think I will wait for better version of these figures /
