Mumm-Ra was actually honorable enough to allow Lion-O to listen to Jaga on how to beat him, even though it was Mumm-Ra who had the upper hand at the moment Jaga appeared.
For the time (and tv budget) some of this animation is really good. You rarely got kids cartoons that cared to make the action intense and suspenseful.
They had really good animation in fact it is actually anime as it was animated in japan. Thats why you see some effects that you didnt see in most american animation.
@SNAKES600 that's probably why it looked as good, don't get me wrong I love american cartoons, but some of them lacked action packed fight scenes back in the day.
Mumm-Ra's reflection was such a cheap weakness. Almost every single time he's about to kill Lion-O, it's just "ha I used your greatest weakness that I could have just used earlier!"
@@AR-xd3dp because as his true form he’s untouchable, but whenever he sees the reflection he sees his decaying form. A dying form so he withers back into it
@AARON BAKER I wouldn’t say that, necessarily. And I’m a child of the 80s. This was THE PREMIERE cartoon that was serious like He-Man wasn’t. And AS a fan, I’ll settle for each version being its own thing…in fact, I’m pretty disappointed that the newer version got cancelled so soon 😔 because it was getting good, and it had its tone
Lion-O: "How do I defeat him?" Jaga: "The same way you always defeat him, moron! Think about it." Lion-O: "Oh yeah, I'll show him his reflection!" Honestly they all should have just kept a small metal mirror on their person at all times.
When I first saw this episode as a kid I thought it was epic, now I think they should have added them roaring like lions do when they brawl it out but still good
I always thought he's name was mungra, wow you learn something new every day. Also this is my first time seeing this episode, watch this when it first aired in New Orleans growing up in the 1980s.
@@mrblaoblao6981 when u watch those cartoons now u see how old they are. Thunder cats look way better than all those cartoons still. I bought the he man collection and it’s not that exciting. It’s dry. Bought all the thunder cats collections and it’s way better still
@@mrblaoblao6981in my opinion I do agree t Transformers was better than ThunderCats. But Thundercats was way better than He-man when it comes to the art work.
I still watch this today :-D Mumm Ra cracks me up so much, he has to laugh at everything before doing something lol... "Free my friends from those pictures!"; logical answer = "No". Mumm Ra answer = "Oh no.... YAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
Batman has never canonically beaten Superman. Batman himself has said that if Superman wanted him dead, he would be a grease spot on the sidewalk in less than a second.
One of my favorite cartoons of all time and the lessons I learned from that cartoon. I remember it came on in the 80s I was a young adult and I’m watching it now and 2023 and I still love it.

Merlin with Excalibur: "Get back to your dark Sarcophagus" Lion-o with the Sword of Omens: "Back to you Pyramid Mummy!" Its funny how Both Sword set Mumm-ra running back home.
2:52 I thought it was going to go with "He has your own weaknesses too!" or "He can copy everything _except_ the true eye of thundera!" This is probably what Jaga was going for, but hey, it got the job done 😅
This is one of my top 10 favorite episodes of the first season and the second scariest episode I seen. But also the last time Mumm-Ra got defeated by his own reflection.
This is the first time Mumm-Ra impersonated Lion-O. The second time Mumm-Ra took Lion-o's appearance was Return of the ThunderCubs. They both fought it out again.
Why they just never went into battle with mirrors equipped , I'll never know. Also, as Homer Simpson once said, "If I know me, I won't like being kicked in the groin!"
Lou Zer close... it was always saturday morning cartoons with over easy eggs on jelly toast, the yolk would turn green from the Grape jelly. Funny what your brain remembers from certain times. God damn i want to go back. If heaven is real, its you're own version of heaven, I know just where im going. That block of time between 1985 through 89.
Hockeyguy25 yeah man life was all so simple then. I agree with everything except that egg yolk and jelly, that sounds gross. I'll dip my toast, sausage links and bacon in egg yolk but jelly?? That sounds like some scheme Mum-rah would come up with to poison the Thundercats.
This is almost like Superman battling his evil lookalike from the Universe of Evil on The Superfriends- BTW, Mumm-Ra knows he can't win vs. Lion-O, as explained by his own reflection!!!
Muito adoro esse desenho animado é um dos melhores desenho animado que eu já vi thundercats é demais esses heróis estão cada vez mais forte e destemidos eles são incríveis
I LOVED THIS SHOW. IT IS ONE THE BEST OF ALL TIME. MUM - RA ROCKS. FAVORITE SUPER VILLIAN. I LOVES HIS TRANSFORMATION. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING MUM-RA DA EVER LIVING WHEN WATCH THIS 'ICONIC' CARTOON SHOW.
I am surprised that Mum-ra was able to make a copy of the Sword of Omens with its abilities and all. I wonder why he could of not done that in the first place!
Sometimes I wonder if Jagua is not a hallucination of Liono's. He never giives him the answer in a straightforward manner, like our own subconcious....
A couple things: 1) Why is Mumm-Ra's reflection his only weakness? On that, why does he fear his reflection so? 2) Lion-O did NOT need Jaga to figure it out! I mean, Mumm-Ra turned into his "Mirror" image!
It was explain ed in one of the first episodes that Mumm Re is so evil he cannot bear to see his face. Also, Lion-O has beaten him using his reflection before, so why it took him so long to figure it out? Bad writing on an otherwise great show.
Some say Lion-O first victory against Mumm-Ra was a fluke in episode 2. I so what disagree, Lion-O didn’t know about Mumm-Ra’s weakness until Mumm-Ra is defeated and the latter is true: bad writing but the series lasted 130, 4 seasons, a pilot movie, and a made to video movie.
