Did you know "Wimoweh" is a mishearing of the original song's chorus of "Uyimbube"… Zulu for, 'You are a lion'. The song we know as "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" or as "Wimoweh" was written in the 1920s by Solomon Linda a South African singer of Zulu origin. The name of the song was "Mbube" which is Zulu for "lion"
Hi Cynthia! I'm a third grade teacher who loves to bring music (and the ukulele!) to my kiddos. I help teach an ukulele club and we play and sing together all the time. Thank you so so much for making this resource available to me and my kiddos
Cynthia, this video is 4 yrs old so idk if you'll get this comment. But I only discovered you right before Christmas2021. I bought a guitarelele bc I used to strum a guitar. I started using the bottom 4 strings to play some simple uke music and I was hooked! Lol so I went to visit my daughter last week to snuggle my new granddaughter and bought a uke at a local guitar store there. I downloaded some of your collections and am practicing like a crazy person. Living the Uke life!! Thank you!!
Thank you! I bought a ukulele from my local music store to have something new to learn during this COVID 19 lock down, and the lady who sold me the uke told me to check out your tutorials. This is such a fun instrument, your tutorials are very helpful and make learning even more fun!!
I just started playing the ukulele and you can't imagine how much your videos are helping me. You are by FAR the best teacher on youtube. Thank you for that
Got a ukelele two weeks ago after hand surgery. Thought it encourage me to do my finger exercises. Who knew that Miss Lin would also lighten my mood during this sad time? You have so much positive energy. Thank you!❤️🌺🎶
Just bought my first ukelele last week. A bit advanced for where I'm at but I don't care. Just trying to play along brought a level of joy I haven't experienced since the start of the pandemic.
This song was the very first song I learned from the Ukulele and I don't regret learning it from you! Thank you so much for teaching us this wonderful song! The only problem is that at the ending, I always run out of track and just end up strumming up, down, up, down! Thank you for teaching us! (I got my very first ukulele during lockdown and it really helps me when I'm having trouble!)
My life has gotten sooo much better learning to play my Uke. I could not have done this without you and following your tutorials. This is just the very thing to do during this lock down. People are so missing out on all the fun. Following your instructions there is no reason for anyone to be able to learn to play. I come from a musical family although I got left out in that field. I can't thank you enough for helping me to actually play an instrument and feel that I am worthy of owing my little friend. Just so good!!
Cynthia Lin there is no ukulele teacher better than you! Been following you for years. NO ONE BETTER! Love love your demeanor, attitude, talent and expertise. You make it so much fun to play the ukulele and sing. Bravo.
I finally took my ukulele out of the case. I've run out of things to keep me busy during lock down. Part of the reason for not playing it is I get home sick for my aina the land of Aloha. But I have to learn to keep up my heritage no matter what. Mahalo Nui Loa
Thank you Cynthia! I found your teaching truly inspirational. The best music teaching I ever found on youtube. You not only teach all the techniques with clear, detailed explanation, but also communicate your passion and connection with music to us. I can totally feel and share your love of music. Thank you!!!
We are in second wave of corona here in India.... I have ordered my ukelele now, I need something to take my anxiety away. This is the song that comes to mind!❤️
You are an amazing teacher. Thank you! It is wonderful to learn to play/practice and enjoy/learn a song at the same time. I know lots of cords but the strumming is what I needed. Thank you
Cynthia-Thank you! You are spreading a lot of happiness. I am soo happy to be playing my uke. I have wanted to have my own uke since i was about 4 years old! Never give up on a dream. Your teaching is amazing!!!
Very, very in-depth into not only playing the song (Lion Sleeps Tonight); but lots of interesting variations of the song. I'm an accomplished Uke player, but the kind, fun approach of the videos is refreshing! Awesome method of learning.
I´ve tried some other tutorials, but you are the one for me. Thank you for your gentle, friendly professional way of teaching, love from Austria, Europe !!
THANK YOU for these videos. I've never had a music teacher explain everything so clearly and more importantly explain WHY you do certain things... as well as going at a true learners pace.
Just received my new ukulele as a gift from my son and his visit to Hawaii. Saw this and WOW, you are amazing!! I love the various nuances that you have done with this song, The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Can't wait to master this and bring this out to show my friends my new gem. Thank you so much for your teachings. Very, very helpful and so much fun!!!!
Just learned I’m Yours in ukelele from your video. It’s encouraging to learn it the easy way. Thanks. This song is also made easy. I can now play to my 4year old grand daughter. She loves to hear me sing this song to her since she was a baby.
Thank you for helping me finally getting the Chuck strum down. Easy card progression and a fun song to play. I love you teaching style, nice pace, and clean instructions. Thanks for all the Ghucking tips...
Ur amazing because when u had that video ‘how to chuck’ I started learning how to chuck and learned this song, my family said it’s a good song because they seen the lion king. So I will like and subscribe to u. Thank u
You are amazing it's a perfect song to learn to chuck too. I'm so happy I found this. You are a great teacher you break it down. I started with some of your songs & im so glad I got your chucking tutorial also. Jeannie xx
So beautifully played! I've been working on it all day and am getting better. I love the different styles that you incorporated into this song! It's so much fun!
i enjoyed the tutorial today , am in quarantine due to corona virus Cynthia:s voice is so soothing and informative , it makes the time go much better Thank you .
Cynthia, thank you. I love the way you teach. I love that sense of calm and patience you project. I recently got a soprano ukulele and I've been watching your videos. Love them. Thank you
Brilliant, just new to ukulele. Looked at lots of lessons but not of them can match your explanations, you are a superb teacher. I’ve taught all my life in schools and in the evening, martial arts. Your style is exactly the way I believe in building up to desired result. But you have also reminded me of many things I have forgotten. Thank you.
Now that I have been able to chuck for the past six months, I can go back to some songs that I learned at the beginning of my ukulele practice to add the chuck. The one that really needed it is "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"
Hey there Ms. Cynthia. Thank you so much for your videos and tutorials. I have found your videos by far the easiest to understand and play. This song is a little tricky for me but I'm gonna get there. Keep the videos coming.
Great video. I teach incarcerated teen boys to play and we are using your video to learn Lion Sleeps Tonight. They love playing this song with you in cyberspace!! Thanks for all you do.
I found my grandmother's ukulele. It is a CF Martin and I believe based on its brass frets, original bridge, and other features, it's likely dated late 1930's. It is in very nice condition, just had strings put on. As a surprise to my 79 yr. old father, I am learning to play it for a campfire sing a long this Thanksgiving : ) down in Tennessee. I was only a toddler when I remember grandma playing this ukulele. Fast forward 50 yrs (I'm middle aged now) and here I am playing a 75 yr old ukulele with my grandma's name on it! Your tutorials are very good for us beginners. I'm enjoying your lessons very much. Thank you.
So much fun. I am just playing for 6 weeks now, and i am a little slow for your many variations but i Keep trying Till i aktually Master this. I loooovvve ♡♡♡♡ This Song so much! Thank you
Hello! Cynthia, I need help with chucking and I searched on CL "chuck" on RU-vid and this came up! Brilliant tutorial. Thank you! Your tutorials are very easy to follow!!
Thank you Cynthia for your great lessons. It might sound strange, I'm playing guitar not ukulele and you are a great help in teaching me songs. All the basics of a song from beginning to the end, much better than the many guitar teachers out there. You are incredible.
Dearest Cynthia You are The Bestest ! I am so excited to see you at Ukulele Festival in LA. Thank you I am a true beginner and your passion is catching and your leadership is inspiring. Merci !
thank you Cynthia, this is REALLY the best Ukulele tutorial i ever watched. It is late at night here, and i cannot wait until tomorrow that i can start learning this!
Thank you Cynthia: six months ago I saw this when I first started playing, three days ago I learned to chuck from your video, so today I was able to make a better job of this one. Thank you sooo much!
@@juliannechilders3214 you might be better already cause this is late, but I found that it helps to get the chords and strumming down for about a week before trying to add vocals. This helped me a ton with the timing if I had the strumming down first. Cynthia's videos really are the best for learning strum patterns.
So glad I found your channel. You are such a great teacher with adding variations AND, I feel like you are sitting across from me and watching me strum the chords. Thank you very much.
Thank you Master Cynthia Lin. Please keep teaching us. Today is my first day to practice, hihihi. I admire your way of singing and strumming. Keep safe and more power.
You really are a great teacher. There is a perfect rythm/flow in those teaching lessons and it makes learning easy and relax and fun, exactly the way it should be. Ukulele is such a brilliant instrument in that sens. Your pace, explanations, pointing at probables difficulties and of course wonderful chord chart, everything is crystal clear and make the learning such a pleasant journey. Obviously your beautiful voice is the perfect starting point for us to be captivated. Fabulous Job. Thank you for making it available for everybody. Keep spreading the joy. Damien (in rainy/sunny Paris)
I have found your chucking tutorial the best for me. I honestly struggled at first and stopped practicing and worked on chord progressions. When I came back to practice chucking again something clicked where its now easier. :-)) Let us know if your ever in Sacramento. Cheers!
omg I want to cry you are so blessed. thank you for the lessons. This is the best tutorial, I've listened to a few others that were really good, but yours I picked up immediately. I love the way you broke it down the way you did.
