He modulated the entire song down a half a step for this live performance to make it easier to sing..smart...I like the original key he recorded it in. (musician ears) . still awesome
It’s down 3 steps from the original . Most people don’t realize that Lionel sung that song when he was 26 years old. The man is now 74. You can’t expect too many singers to sing in the original key after damn near 48 years of singing. Yes there are a few singers such as Charlie Wilson & Philip Bailey who still perform their songs in the original keys but that is very few and far between when you get up in those twilight years of your career. Still a great job no doubt. 🙂
@@Jbo100 I miss my granpa man, but pls listen to quincy jones "every thing must change", its like he sings "but thats the way of time" brooooow just soooo wonderful and helps you to understand that life is on the exactly right rithym but we as human dont get it as quick as we should, the eternity cant be compared to any time, trust me, every thing is gonna be okay somewhere,somedaaay :)
This song is a MASTERPIECE and I love him but was so sad that I went to see him last weekend & he didn't sing this song. We'd just seen the Commodores (the 3 member group now) just a few weeks previously & they didn't sing it either. Anyone know if there are some legal battles that avoid either from singing this? Just find it odd when this is such a well-known song. We still love you Lionel!

almost every normal person feels this way at some point in a great or a bad relationship trust me ... i know. and i love my wife... HOWEVER!!!! If I could do it all over again!!! Just sayin I’d tweak A couple things
