I'm really on the fence because the t5 seems to really be the perfect size- lending itself to smaller tasks a little better than the t6 might? I like kydex sheaths, but I am also fine with the nice leather of the t5. Looking for an esee 5 replacement in terms of durability and role. I was completely sold on the t5 while it was sold out, and until the t6 came out!
@@joshuareed3999 t6 is ezpensive you can have many other knives. Check out bark river it is way better when you wamt it to fit in hand and sheath is great. I have t6 and can say it is very big, unless you have big hands, the handle will be litlle to big. But overall it reminds me trc apocalypse which is best of the best big camp knife(look at the tip, it is thick and very nice finished) And trc is stainless way more than k490 in t6
Jim Lahey thank you for the reply my friend. I gave my esee 5 to my nephew as a gift and want something in that realm to use as a "survival" style/camping knife. I have seen the Bark River and have also considered Bradford knives as well. I do use it to process kindling, and do some limited chopping tasks as well. The esee 5 was thick and heavy, but size wise it was good. I may try the cheaper T5 ad it was one the was appealing to me ad well, and see if I still need or want anything else. The T6 does look like a tank! Thank you again.
I wonder how k490 stacks up against the 3V version? On paper, K490 is supposed to considerably more toughness and similar wear resistance to M4. That would make it sound like a superior steel to 3V?
Compare price. T6 is from the knife making region of Italy. It's using powder metallurgy. It has different edge geometry. Most men wouldn't tell a difference except edge holding. It's a tough knife for beating on, same as other brands offerings. It all depends on your priorities and sensibilities
This is a lot more comfortable than the Pillar and doesn't have the finger groove in the handle that can become very uncomfortable under heavy use. The newer version of the T6 comes in CPM 3V so it's very tough steel. Compared to the Esse 6 the T6 is a lot beefier. The Esse 6 is a nice budget option in basic 1095 steel, it's about $100 cheaper (Esse also got a great warranty). It's hard to compare the 2 really and depends on what you want out of the knife. If you want a more premium overbuilt tank of a knife in 3V go for the T6. If you want something cheaper in basic steel that also comes with a great warranty, the Esse 6 is a great beater knife.
My FAVORITE, better than a TRC Apocalypse in my opinion! The TRC has such a small handle and scales, a woman can hold one! This is the best all around knife made! i have 2 of them!
that nasty piece you batoned is the main reason why i always carry 2 blades with me 😅 nothing is more frustating then getting your knife stuck and no other option to get it out. Especialy true if the knife costs 300+$
