Thank you. My doctor would not give me a low dose, she said it's a waste of your money. . Fortunately the pharmacy only had 2 doses available, 10 and 15, my doctor said to take 25 straight away! I don't want to cause I am very sensitive. I am on 100 levo and that took 1 year of increase srarting at.10mg. From my previous doctor. The medicine liothy T3 is in capsule, shall I just take it with food to lower the effects? Or pour half the capsule out. It has cost me lots of money though. We are not funded in NZ, and they don't make 5mg dose.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. But I do believe that it will become more common as physicians realize that metabolic syndrome and obesity reduce T3 and cause a hypothyroid like state. I predict it will change in about 10 years, but that's a long time to suffer for most people.

I have argued for years that my thyroid was not right. I even went and saw an endocrinologist who did all the tests and came back and said I was perfectly fine ( my TSH was 2.35 as of a few weeks ago). I have suffered depression my entire life. Plus I struggle with my weight. Plus thyroid issues run in my family. 2 weeks ago my primary care physician decided to put me on cytomel as an antidepressant since I have not had the best luck with ssris (I went off them in Feb and my depression got really bad again). The difference is astounding. I have more energy, I am not depressed at all, and I have lost weight. It's truly been amazing.

I just started T3 (Liothyronine) along with T4 (Tirosint) about a month ago and I definitely needed it. I was on NDTs for years prior and my body wasn't absorbing any of the brands. I can definitely feel when the T3 starts absorbing, the first thing I notice every time is my lips will feel warm and get puffy like they probably should be naturally instead of dried out and shriveled like they've been for years. Most of my skin feels this way, especially my arms and face. So I'm hoping it will eventually help with my dried out skin in those areas. Its definitely raised my body temperature. I'm not freezing to death at night anymore. I've also lost 10 lbs since starting. My weight has literally been climbing since my total thyroidectomy 4 years ago. I'm happy about finally loosing some of the weight I've gained. I'm so glad I'm finally on this. So far I'm feeling great and haven't had any negative reactions. This video is very informative, thank you.

You have NO idea how many endocrinologists are reluctant to even work with T3. They won’t even talk about reverse t3, free t3 or anything else. I live in a pretty progressive area, with several major medical facilities - and the endocrinologists don’t want to talk about anything but synthroid. I don’t understand why we can’t seem to educate regular doctors to help thyroid patients.
@drwestinchilds
@drwestinchilds 6 лет назад
I am definitely aware because it's exactly how I was trained initially! Much of this has to do with the current treatment paradigm mixed with a dogmatic approach to thyroid management. In addition, treating the way I describe here takes much more time than the alternative approach to just throw Synthroid at everyone and monitor the TSH. I wish it were different!

I cannot tell you how much this video means! I have been on Synthroid for a long time about 35 years. I hit menopause and sunk into this depression. Was put on Premarin which makes things worse but did reduce hot flashes. I heard it binds with T3 receptors? Anyway my TSH was 1.25 my T4 was normal but my total T3 was 6.6 and I'm very symptomatic hair loss Etc. I asked the endrocrinologist if I could try cytomel and she said she was thinking the same thing. She put me on 5 mcg and that horrible depression went away for the first time in three years but then it started getting bad I was taking it in conjunction with 150 micrograms of Synthroid. I would take it on an empty stomach in the morning with the Synthroid and get so weak I could barely move my eye would start twitching.. I had eight out of the ten symptoms of an overdose. Then just like you said I stopped taking it! Actually my doctor told me to stop taking it. When you we're talking about sensitives and you mentioned Benadryl that is me! I don't know if it has to do with the Hashimoto's but I've always been sensitive. Type 1 diabetic and I only have to take around 30 ml of insulin a day! Anyway I know this is long but this is so important you will be helping me get my life back. What dose do you give to sensitive people and do you split it up during the day? You also mentioned a time release formula? I can't tell you how grateful I would be for any information you could give me because I think this is what could change things for me finally! Thank you so much!

@jrborenz9206
@jrborenz9206 3 года назад
If you feel "sensitive" to T3 when you start taking 5mcg then you most likely need to lower your Levo a little. I only feel heat or unwell with T3 when it is combined with high FT4 levels. For example, my TSH is 1.8, FT4 is 1.77, FT3 is 2.6, and TT3 is 79 on 88mcg of Levo. I weigh 100lbs and my thyroid no longer produces hormone so T3 only is not a good option for me. You'd think that by adding 5-20mcg on top of a full replacement dose of T4 will make you feel better but many of you will feel hot, poorly and unable to sleep. When I tried T3 only I did not have any heat symptoms. Feeling hot is the side effect of too high T4 levels with T3. If your FT3 or TT3 levels are as low as mine then you will most likely need a lot more than 5mcg of T3 to resolve lingering hypo symptoms. I agree that T3 only is a better option for those who still have some thyroid function and don't skip on calories as it will only increase your TSH.

My experience I am on T4 50 and T3 35 SR (sustain release) I could not tolerate T4 75 mg I took it for a year and couldn't take it, I switched gradually, but still symptomatic, then my dr gave me 5 mcg Liothyronine to take with my compound, every 4 weeks increasing it to 15 mcg of Liothyronine, in July she added 25 synthroid and my body just couldn't take it, so I stopped it and just continued on the additional 15 Liothyronine. I took my blood yesterday, 11/3/21 and I will see, my last blood work my T3 was 2.0 and my total T3 was 70, previous labs were T3 3,2 and Total T3 was 121. I know these number are low according to research, I will see what my blood work says this week. I also am hearing here that when you increase liothyronine you need to reduce Levo, and my doctor has not done that, I will speak to her about that in two weeks. I thank Dr Childs profusely as I realized a lot of things my doctor did not know, one that you need to decrease T4 and two, that Liothyronine can't be increased 15 mcg straight in one shot it needs to be gradual I realize that, my hair is still falling off, nails not growing, and lifting off the bed. I believe its do to too much T4 , any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

@shanezveganess5969

My understanding is ultimately T3 is the active hormone that is NEEDED/ESSENTIAL for the body to work ... As T4 needs to be converted to T3 it really is not essential for the body to function, it acts more as a regulator of how much T3 is released into the body. So the body produces T4 to control the flow of T3 and regulates it's output ... low T4 could be seen as the body's pre-warning mechanism, so you get time to sort out your particular issues. However a longstanding low level of T3 or absence of T3 can lead to Myexdema coma, which is critical and could be fatal. I titrated up my doses of T3 incrementally and now take slow release T3 each day. My personal experience I take T3 only now, as T4 has proven unsuccessful for me personally, largely because I sleep a lot with my combined symptoms of clinical depression, and we are low in selenium in New Zealand soil, which is one of the many essential vitamins needed for converting T4 to the active hormone T3, so I can't ensure the precise intake of all the quantities of minerals, vitamins etc. at the precise times needed for the conversion of T4 to T3, because of the cycle of over sleep resulting in missed meals. So the varying factors were far to complex to achieve, and seemed illogical for me to suffer through when I could take T3 to get effective results. I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, so I'm treated for the hypothyroidism which is one of the many symptom's of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, in my case.

So, I had a TSH of 8 with normal t3 and t4 levels, my previous doctor put me on 25mcg of cytomel initially and I tolerated it well then bumped me up to 50mcg which I’m not sure why, but it was definitely too much I started getting weird feelings in my heart, heat intolerance, bad anxiety etc. so I reduced the dosage and it still was making me feel so strange so after a few days I just quit taking it. I feel like crap now because hypothyroid symptoms are back full blown. Saw another doctor to get labs done and TSH was 13 with low t4 levels, t3 was ok and now she has me on levothyroxine 25mcg, so pretty much starting all over. What a process >.< I take a lot of the supplements like vitamin D, adrenal complex, zinc, iodine. Just hoping I convert Levo okay! 🤞🏼 I do enjoy these videos though very helpful & informative! All our bodies are unique, I’m definitely someone who is pretty sensitive to any type of drug. If levo works ok I may ask for tirosint since it is cleaner and I don’t want to risk side effects from fillers. Any who, I’m rambling at this point lol

When I took 5-10 mcg of T3 with Levothyroxine NOTHING..switched back to Synthroid-- wow, 5 mcg of T3 was a Lot, but it started to lift my severe depression. Better nails and hair and weight dropped. If you have had SEVERE depression it can be a miracle. I have the paradoxical effect from Benadryl. UPDATE T3 GAVE ME HORRIFIC DEPRESSION. It should have a black box warning on it. I am not the only one either. My adrenals are fine as is my stored iron levels. My face blew up but the depression was horrific in every sense of the word. Looking back at my insurance company records I see that they switched me over to the generic version of Synthroid as I said. This week I am just trying the Synthroid without the T3. Something's got to give

You have very interesting information, but I have not heard my situation yet. Perhaps you have the answer to head me in the correct direction. I have 1 thyroid gland remaining. They want to do a biopsy on it, as nodules have changed. I have put it off until Aug because I have a vacation, but also, it doesn’t seem correct. I did notice a swelling of the gland(goiter?) but it has diminished now. I had breast cancer cells removed 2 years ago and was put on an estrogen blocker. I did not like the side effects, so stopped taking it. This is about the time I had an ultrasound of my thyroid. I don’t feel as bad as I did before the first removal, which to me means the thyroid is still working. But, my hair is falling out and I have trouble sleeping. My labs show T3 and T4 in the normal range. However, my TSH is a 0.03 something. I have been asking for years why my TSH is so low, and no one knows. I do NOT want surgery nor medication! Is there something else I can do to get balanced? Thank you.

Can you try low dose Cytomel t3 with animal thyroid? As I’ve been taking animal thyroid since 2012 (with a low carb pro leptin diet), at first it worked and lowered my TSH, but when had to change suppliers of it, it don’t work as well any more. Also when I reintroduced carbs, that seemed to make the animal thyroid not work and TSH go up...I used to have fatty liver from being a fruit smoothie vegan back in 2010/11. Until I obvs got nutritionally re educated about fructose then quit vegan and went low carb in early 2012. My ALT came down too. So now I’m outa whack again, feel fatigued af! Should I add a bit of T3 to my animal thyroid, or not take animal thyroid and just try T3 on its own, in conjunction with going keto again???

With low thyroid or thyroid resistance it means that thyroid isn't getting into your cells effectively which includes the brain which has many thyroid receptors. My Dr. started me on 30mcg per day. Splitting that up in 2 doses. After listening to this I wish he would have started lower. First 3 weeks no negative side effects. Then suddenly noticed hair thinning even more than before. Also have been waking up after sleeping 5 hrs wide awake. I also start getting major anxiety about 8 hrs after last dose for the day. And final possible side effect is I am getting headaches. My free and total T3 is low. My RT3 is high. My TSH and T4 are ok. My Iron is bottom of range and Ferratin bottom of lab range by 1 point. I have been supplementing with liquid iron since starting Liothyronine. I am going to cut my dose in half but they are capsules so I guess I will open them up and eyeball the powder in half and just swallow the powder. Any other suggestions to this? I am getting bloodwork done in another couple weeks and planning on signing up to have you review everything.

I recently started T3 at 5mcg every 8 hours to replace levothyroxine 100mcg/day. However, I am unsure how to balance food with the T3. One of your videos said to have a gap of two hours between food and thyroid medication both before and after. If I do that, then that would account for 12 hours of my day where I do not eat food, which is unsustainable. Did I misunderstand? I did not get clear instructions from my providing physician.

I have major issues with medication, I cannot tolerate any synthetic t4 or ndt. On t4 I get the worst migraines that leaves me on bedrest for the entire day, on ndt it is the same but worse since I get difficulties breathing and swallowing and it feels like my head is about to explode. Now, I'm trying t3 only, I have hashimotos and my thyroid is intact so no surgery or cancer, just some nodules that are said to be benign. I've tried both cytomel and liothyronine from takeda pharma. Cytomel makes me depressed and tired, I get weigh gain, inability to tolerate heat and this is just from 5 mcg. The same things happen on liothyronine, I take it and within an hour I have diarrhea, pain in my heart, right arm and shoulder, stomach pains and leg cramps, and inability to cope with heat. I even split it in 2.5 mcg and this happens. After that I get extremly tired and have to rest. I don't know what to do any longer about this and would really like to treat my hypothyroidism without medication. I feel like if I tell my doctor we should try a different brand of t3, isn't it likely I will face the same symptoms on those as well?
