Tons of excellet data. Its like going to fishing school and i need a note book to remember all the info. Im a novice fisherman and really enjoy all the info to be a better fisherman to enjoy the catching fish high. Thank You. GOD BLESS and keep the videos going!!!
I just watched this vid two days ago. Picked up an LV500 yesterday and absolutely killed it today. Hopping it was the trick. I retrieved it similarly how I retrieve a chatterbait. Two 5.12’s, 5.7, 4.13,4.8,4 and three in the three pound range. Plus several chunks.
Welcome to Tennessee and Chickamagua Lake. Pretty close to my home area of the Tri-cities in East Tennessee:). I always learn so much from these guys. I love how they go in-depth on all kinds of baits. There isn’t a better informative fishing channel. “Tactical Bassin” # 1 across the board! Thank you guys for all the time you put into these videos.
Thank you for an exceptional instructional video. I’ve carried lipless baits for years and didn’t know how or why to use them. Thanks to this video, I understand how useful these baits can be. I’ll use them in the future.
I've got a question. Long time fan, long time follower. Thank you guys for everything you do! Anyway, you mentioned ghost in clear water. I notice most of your other colors are reflective, do you just switch to the chromes in stained and muddy water? I remember Matt mentioning clear in shallow, reflective in overcast conditions, and bold(white, chartreuse) for muddy. Then, of course, craw. I've scoured the recent stuff. After typing all that, a video for hard bait color selection would be phenomenal. An answer for lipless, squares, mid-deep diving crankbaits, and jerkbaits would also be phenomenal. Thank you!
A great shallow lipless thar I have a ton of confidence in is the Bagley shallow RBM6. It runs super shallow and is perfect for running over the tops of grass.
Thanks for the video Tim. I love lipless cranks. I have pretty good luck with them at Lake Mead in Nevada. I'm now on my way to max out my credit card on lipless cranks.
You guys should do a video on fish care. How to you handle a gut hooked fish, do you "fizz" a bass when you catch them out deep, proper live well care, etc.
Nice info Tim! Two questions: (1) On the LV 500, do you replace the hooks with the same size as LC has em (larger hook on front)?; or just replace same size hooks, front and back. (2) Do you think a Megabass EMTF would work ok with a LV 500? Thanks! Hope y'all are enjoying TN!
Awesome video. You mentioned the Jackall TN 70 but the TN 60 is an overlooked lipless but imo in the fall it can't be beat. It's a 1/2 bait but it's the size of most 1/4 lipless crankbaits. In the fall on most fisheries the bass are keyed in on very small bait, typically threadfin shad and it's hard to imitate that but the TN 60 does it better than any other bait I've found. Definitely worth checking out
My partner found a ¾oz Chartreuse/black back Mag Trap in his old man's tackle box once. It had faded in the sun...severely. I'm here to tell you, that lure was a unicorn. He found it about this time of year-Indian Summer in Alabama. Tough time for scattered fish that had yet to school up. Every trip out for two months, one of us caught two or three 4 and 5 pound bass. It was a very special lure.
Hey Tim: Love all the tactical videos keep it up. One question I’ve never seen answered about lipless baits I’d like to ask is: “when do you choose between the rat-l-trap or Cordell spot style vs the Strike king red eye shad or Booyah one knocker shape?Thanks...🎣🤔😎🐝
Still have to change out the split rings and if you are going that far you might as well change hooks so you know that you know that the hooks aren’t going to be a problem.
I remember when Gamakatsu made their first trebles. Man, we caught everything that even THOUGHT ABOUT biting! Then came the Excalibur Rotating hooks. They were bad dudes.
One that really works for me that didn't gt mentioned is the Spro Aruka shad jr in perch color it drives bass completely crazy nice sound very tight wobble and pretty good paint jobs.
Two questions. 1. I remember from an early video Matt mentioned that if the fish were not totally engulfing the bait to use round bend trebles and if they were to then go to a treble with tipped in points, does this apply to lipless or should they ALWAYS have wide gap hooks? 2. Why aren’t you storing your hooks in a Plano box since they help fight rust
That 2-Tap Strike King Redeye Shad in Natural Shad color (16:17) is money! Caught some giants on the 3/4 ounce size. Noticed you showed the Natural Shad color in vid but didn't list it in your preferred colors. That color is hands down the best in lakes with shad. Bill Lewis Rat-L-Traps are less than $5 at Walmart - get a chrome and blue, that one works great in sunny conditions.
Thanks for the video, Tim! Lots of great info, as always. I've asked before, but do you have tips on when/how/where to fish the suspending lipless cranks ?
I’ve smashed quite a few fish on the Quake 70 for the last year. Maybe I should have bought a few more in different colors and weights because every time y’all recommend something, it seems to go out of stock fairly quick on Tackle Warehouse. 😂 The quality of fish I catch on the Quake seems to be bigger and better as well. Those are my observations for anyone who has any remaining doubts on it. It’s got a pretty different sound and you can feel the vibration of it in all but the stiffest of rods. I’ve thrown it on a frog rod and still feel it.
Hello guys, I am a very keen lipless fisher, always trying to improve. Having a look at your gear suggestions though, I could not get the suggested gear ratio of the reel. I am used to lipless fish with a 6.6, sometimes 7.1 -only when shallow-so I was a bit surprised to see the shimano reels gear ratio you suggest, between 7 and 8. Does it depend on the specific rods they are paired with or is it a general rule to have a fast reel while fishing lipless? Thanks in advance and congratulations for the channel!
this awsome info. My go to is a blue and chrome rattle trap the second is red eye shad blue and chrome or sometimes the one with the purple on it. One outing with it and the hooks destroyed. Baits all scrated up. I believe the reason I've lost some whoppers is because those hooks get bent out.
My favorite lipless so far is the Booyah One Knocker but the only way that I have confidence with it is slow rolled on the bottom ticking the rocks or ripped out of grass
I’ve been going out with a blade bait and a lipless lately and fishing them basically the same. Some days the lipless gets the bites, some days the blade bait does. When I post my catches on Fishbrain, I get a lot of “blade bait? What’s that?” I guess I need to get the good word out on blade baits in Michigan 😂
Do you fish the TN-50 / Megabass Vibration-X Jr on the same CBR 845 rod ? Also, interested to hear what you think of the Megabass Vibration-X Ultra for swimming if your bait fish are mainly bluegill. That bait is a wee bit fatter so matches a bluegill quite well
PSA: in waters without shad (like my southern New York lakes), choose bluegill colors! Shad colors don’t actually work that well in places where the natural forage is darker colored.
We don’t have shad in most of the lakes by me in Michigan, and shad colors still work. I use bluegill colors for sure, but I mix it up. We still have bluntnose minnows, brook silversides and various shiners. We also have logperch and darter species; many of which look a lot like small gobies to me.
Outrage Quitter yep, that’s true. My overarching point was that in some regions, and certainly in some bodies of water, darker colors may “match the hatch” much better than others.
I will most likely try these on a med heavy fast because its what I have. I use braid to leader on all combos for castability from the bank. Whit that being said... should I use a mono leader for a little "give"... or would using floro be a better choice?
Do find a place in your arsenal for suspending or floating lipless cranks? Though harder to find, I have found them useful for bank and shallow fishing as I get fewer hang ups.
I have some Ima and 6th sense suspending , caught several on the 6th sense but wish they had a smaller profile , the 80 size might be too big , the ima suspending is smaller but seems like junk so far
@@ukstorm2727 I have 2 floating rattle traps left... can't find them anymore... wonder if they're even made anymore. First thing the hooks need to be changed out on them. Like them when I'm bank fishing, hangs up a lot less. Thanks for the heads up the 6th sense suspending. I will have to try them out. :) Hopefully a replacement for those floating rattle traps that I can't find anymore.
THANK YOU for this video!!! 💯 I put one on a couple weeks ago (because it looked great) but I was not confident with it AT ALL.. If I'm not feeling it, might as well throw it out the window 😂🤷♀️
Hey Tim and Matt! When fishing shallow, what would make you choose between fishing a chatterbait vs. a lipless and vice versa? Is there anything you look for in particular when torn between the two baits?
I do all my fishing in northwest Wisconsin. Most of the videos are pertaining to lakes with shad. What colors should I be getting? I catch plenty of bass but a few more would be great. Thanks.
My buddy and I watch every video and we are at watts bar now headed to chickamauga soon as the rain stops this morning so if you see a bright blue and white bullet holler at us!
Thanks for info. Question, do you think the lipless techniques work (eg ypyo) from the bank in stained water? I fish north east TN and SC lakes. The TN bottoms are rocky with ledges; the SC bottom are soft but have timber or other laydowns. Any recommendations from bank for "hopping" I understand I can try to measure fall and not hit bottom etc, but wonder if you have other tips. You did good upload on bank fishing shorttime ago. Appreciate that for us land bound anglers. Thanks
Thanks, Tim! Been loving your lure-specific fall videos for fall. I have a question about approach. Simply put, if I have 6 rods I want to rig for the day, is it best to rig each rod with a different lure , or pairs of rods with same lure but different color or depth? Ex: Choice A: Squarebill, Lipless, Jerkbait, Fluke, Spinnerbait, Jig...OR 2 squarebill rods 2 Jerkbait rods, and 2 lipless crankbait rods, each have different colors or depth. In other words, is it best to focus presentations and have color the variable, or attack with a bunch of techniques? Fishing in central WI natural lakes. Water is cooling, but still in high 50s. Anyone, please feel free to comment! Thanks.
Great question! I would love to hear TB's reply. For me personally, I would be more inclined to rig each rod more like your Option A to start the day. Something that would allow me to fish all depths of the water column, until I can start pinpointing where the fish are. I would also use a clip on the rods with the square bill, lipless, jerk bait, at first. That would allow me to quickly make a color change on those baits for a few casts. Then once I'm able to narrow in on what the fish want, I would probably tie on multiple color choices of the same bait to see if I could improve the "quality" of fish I'm catching.
@@jersey4755 Thanks, Jersey. That's some good wisdom. I'm always leery of using snaps, but if it's a reaction bite I'm looking for, I guess it doesn't matter much. Thanks!
@@jonorech You're welcome. I used to be leery of using a snap as well. So I did some "research" on the subject. I use them almost all of the time now with crank baits, jerk baits. If they are good enough for KVD, well then, I guess they're good enough for me: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9FB9awRxhw0.html
To add something to this...keep a fishing journal! I note time of day, lake, position on the lake in the fish finder and in my digital journal, comments on the state of the grass mats in the lake, whether the bass were pushing baitfish onto the surface, lure, color, weight, line etc. Then you can refer back to that, and formulate a strategy the night before and have all the lures you want tied on long before you even get on the water. I tie super long leaders too, and got very good at doing blood knots quickly so I could change leader materials and lures fast on the water. My lakes tend to be grassy, even in winter (thanks Florida), so I start with something like a square bill, a lipless crank, a worm rod where I keep the weight the same regardless of worm and change color/style as needed, and something too water like a whopper plopper or frog, and a willow blade under spin with a 4.3 Keitech. And due to my journals, I know exactly what colors and lures I will start the day with while I’m still at work on Friday afternoon.
Have you had any experience with the quake thud 70? Found em on sale really cheap and was just wondering what was wrong with them. Not often you find a 10 dollar lure for a dollar
vid got me thinking about cranking all day at work and how i dont get into it until its colder...fuck all that..the chrome red eye shad got whomped on tonight. all super shallow. like topwater strikes. thank you Tim.
chase danforth my buddy was smashing fish yesterday at his parents pond in dirt shallow water. I’ll never sleep on super shallow fishing ever again. I watched him walk the entire far shore, and every five feet seemed to just get his bait destroyed by every fish, even with the dog trying to splash near him.
Video Idea: "Winter Bass: Crankbaits Shallow, Crankbaits Deep" (Lake, pond, muddy, clear). Technique focused including bait, line, rod. Let's sort out the blurry lines.
Time on water pushed me to use lipless a lot, yo-yo them a lot in many different sizes, very small ones are great too. A big thing I am looking is the fall style : I want a swimming action on fall, can be erratic or rolling-flashing action, best ones have both. I have great models on Aliexpress for few $, but need to make tests to find them. Many times fishes are aggressive and need a huge hard and long rip to get strike at the fall. 80% take at the fall, Semi slack line to detect them. Remove the back trible if you fish area with wood, way more snagless ! For small models : just one big trible is better. Tribles needs to be heavy enough, it’s very important, if not you will loose lot’s of fishs, and your rod must be enough soft too.
i have the luckcraft, never caught a fish on it, the only productive lipless for me is the red eye shad, and bill lewis, and best color is blue with chrome, down here on the coosa , atleast for me!
Probably my favorite bait to throw in fall and spring. Casts like a rock, all kinds of ways to fish at different depths. Only thing is the pickerels REALLY love them so if they're not getting in the way of catching bass they're cutting the line and getting away with your bait$! Or if they swallow them deep sometimes you're just better off cutting the fish open to get it back. But screw'em...they're pickerel. ;-D
hey i wanna say iam a pro' fisherman but maybe im not ,,i really try to be the best..but cant say im the best unless im challenging the best, but i honestly love lipless crankbaits.its my main arsenal here on the rivers lake ponds ,my best catches though are on river cove's ...HUGE!!!! BASS!!!!. GO lipless..nightime river cove's use topwater swimbaits like a j9,,i through in the reflection of the moon so that the fish see the top water movin, and early morning 5:30- 7:00 am best fishing ever.,,,love tacticalbassin..here is a like on your video.
@@tacticalbassin I fish from the bank and I've had all my success this year with a punch rig fishing the duckweed or pond weed. I was using a Abu Garcia Vendetta, but I'm going to spend money and buy a good rod. I don't hear y'all talking about sensitivity when you were talking about flipping and pitching and punching, is the X Pride going to be a good way for me?
Would like a guide just on equipment, reel-ratios for lure type, poles-power-actions for type of fishing with lengths, poles actions and power that would cross over for for another type of lure, don't forget line-test leader type or not, I know I could go through all your videos and write it down and cross reference the info from the stores but it would be nice if I had one good video to reference all of this. I've watched so many videos or yours I swim in the info! Beginner with advanced tackle collection based on your suggestions! My girl said STOP BUYING FISHING GEAR!!!!!! If you guys make a commission off of the links from RU-vid you've made a bundle off of me! Lol No Joke
You should do a giveaway with all the hooks you and Matt change out instead of throwing them away. I use all my low quality hooks for my punch bait when I'm after eater size cats.
