Awesome thanks for your time and effort. I think everyone watching this can realize these burns are absolute best case scenario with the small batteries. The result I especially appreciate is that design plays more of a result over material. Sacks shoot flames in two directions as bucket style bags shoot flames into one direction. I never thought about this effect.

This gives a great idea as to the ability of each type/style/brand of bag to control the pressure and fire from a burning lipo. Thanks for your time to give us a relative comparison. I did not see the results from the zippered HK bag. I use these a lot to transport my lipos to the field. Just curious how that product worked.

I'm new to this, so my evaluation would be to store individual batteries in a rectangular pouch style bag like Tournigy inside a small cube bag like the Hobbymate from video 1. To be safe I would toss that in a metal ammo box of some kind. I believe I'll charge batteries outside or in the garage as an additional precaution.

So thanks for your time and money you spend for the test. I think you didn´t need to buy all the bags, because a lot of them were the same with different brands. It seems that a larger space for the explotion is more helpful to provide a fire outside of the bag. But however some bags surprise me too.

@dmwtech4495
@dmwtech4495 4 года назад
the problem I see with this test? not using lipo batteries. that fuse cord has a totally different burn characteristic than lithium polymer fires, that is why class c extinguishers are needed, also a battery with burn much longer, more in the 30 second or longer range and much hotter. I only trust these for little 1s or 2s cells under 1500 mah and even then would not be all that comfortable.
@angryzeppelin2750
@angryzeppelin2750 4 года назад
You are correct, however we are matching a fully charged 2s 1000mah battery as far as joules of energy released from the fire. Yes the burn characteristics are different but no one in their right mind would burn this many bags alone on a non-monetized channel little lone the cost of battery's them self's. So it is a relative test of the worst case scenario of battery failure for an older puffy battery under pressure that decomposes all at the same time. More over again it is a comparison of the performance of these bags.

when you have more space in the container vs the envelope style bags the gasses have more time time cool and expand which is why the envelope bags tend to exchange more heat to the surface its resting on.

It would be great if you could try wrapping a battery with a fire blanket and have another battery next to it, with the lot placed in one of the better bags you've tested to see if you get improved performance, or if the blanket catches fire. I think fire blanket are rated up to 340 Celcius. The second battery is to see if it catches fire too.

@jibbajabba4597
@jibbajabba4597 4 года назад
Tankbrusher Scale Modeling If you have a lipo in a sealed ammo box without any form of venting and one of the lipos goes off, the box will explode, and then it won't contain the fire at all, so make sure you drill holes in the lid or remove the rubber seal so in the event of a battery failure, the pressure can escape. There is a reason why these lipo bags and boxes let the smoke and pressure escape, they're designed to contain the fire and stop secondary fires from starting, not contain everything in the bag/box.
@Tankbrusher
@Tankbrusher 4 года назад
@@jibbajabba4597 Thank you very much, I'm aware of that. I vented my now two Ammo Boxes from the beginning (Nato standard, metal, surplus items). Their function is to let my batteries gas out in somewhat controlled manner. I use larger batteries than simulated in that video, so I concluded none of the bags would give at least a good feel in the guts when imagening the worst case.

Interesting couple of videos. Ive never had a fire myself thank God but I do believe Im going to stop charging them in the house even though I dont usually leave the room for more than a few minutes when doing so. I used to own a few lipo bags but I stopped using them when I bought a pair of ammo cans to charge them in. I figure even with the lid cracked to let the smoke vent its going to contain the fire enough to not burn anything down. That being said Im thinking about using a tile or paver on my garage work bench to sit the ammo cans on. My one big weakness I suppose is I just store my lipos in teh door on my secondary fridge in the garage with no addition protection. Im guessing the fridge would contain the fire and since the fridge is old and easily replaceable Im hoping Im not being naive here. I do agree with other viewers though that there should be a couple comparative tests using 5AH at least 3S lipos in some of the better containers so we can get a better idea of what will really happen. Additionally Id like to add that I dont think the multistar hard case can accurately be tested without using lipos because the second (or third, fourth, etc) batteries may detonate from prolonged exposure to heat especially if the cells are side by side. Same for the original lipo sack.

I wonder if submerging good lipos in dry sand indoors in say a 5 Gallon Bucket would be a simple good solution? Would surrounding and storing the good battery in sand increase the propensity for damage? Would there still be smoke?

My more than two cents comments/observations...Curious why you didn't test DJI's battery bag? Or if you did (in previous test), I didn't see it? I think that would be my first test for any bag is measuring the brand's (of drone) bag if they sell them. For the videos, I suggest numbering the bags (in your description/links) as well as the time they appear in the video, especially for those that want to do a second review of your video. Regarding the fuse cord, isn't this affecting the true capability of a bag because you're leaving the bag slightly exposed/open to accommodate for the fuse cord?

So now that I have snerked at your repeated Aaaas and Ummms (sorry), I do have a serious follow up question! 1.) At what temperature does a Lithium-Polymer burn, (vs., say your cannon cord)? 2.) Considering the mass or amount of material in a battery that can burn, what is an approximate duration for a 2S, 3S and so forth? I have personally never experienced a LiPo fire (thank goodness), but I now wonder, "Just how long can a LiPo actually burn? (Will it ignite others in a bag to increase the duration/temperature/pressure and danger?) Honest truth is I don't know, and just tossing all my 2Ss in a bag might blow or melt the best you reviewed apart!. Can you fill me in with your or others rough experiences? I'm new to the hobby, and again thanks to you, I now have serious concerns! So far, I'm thinking an ammo box is a winner! Peace!

Home Depot. An carbon felt just put a little wrap around each one it definitely won’t burn that. Or get some fiberglass in a roll like the sheet cut it how you want. Distributor/seller/brand are pretty meaningless. Many of the bags, especially in part 1, were obviously made by the same manufacturer, with just a different name on them. Common in most industries. Biggest failure point to me was the stitching failing. A bag melting/deforming not necessarily a big deal if there was no penetration or damage to the foam board. i.e., is it going to start a fire to the things nearby. In reality, this stuff will be stored near things that could catch fire, not out in the open. Any flame/sparks escaping is a fail. Noticed the ones that did the best had flaps inside the main flap, which makes sense, no direct path to escape. I like the idea of using the small, individual bags (which did quite well) inside of a larger bag. Very likely people have more than one battery and they are touching in a large bag. Thanks for the info.

Indeed, many may use multiple lipos or have bigger lipos meaning a bigger fire, but that would probably cost a lot more to reproduce.👍🙃 Anyways, some time-stamps: 0:00 - 12:05 Intro and presentation of bags 12:07 - 13:00 HobbyKing®™ Fire Retardant LiPoly Battery Bag (Flat) - $3.47 (Fail) 13:10 - 13:48 VENOM LiPo Safety Charge Sack, Small - 16.49 (Success) 13:49 - 14:35 Team iNTECY LiPo Guard Safety Battery Bag - 7.49 (???) 14:36 - 15:23 Dynamite LiPo Charge Protection Bag, Small - 10.99 (???) 15:26 - 16:30 Multistar Hard Shell Carrying Case for 1400mah 3s Batteries - $11.04 (Success) 16:32 - 17:15 Kenexsis LiPo Charge Protection Bag, 18 x 8 x 5.5 cm - $8.99 (???) 17:16 - 18:00 Tekin LiPo Safe - $19.00 (???) 18:02 - 18:38 HobbyKing®™ Fire Retardant LiPoly Battery Bag (170x45x50mm) - $3.54 (Success) 18:40 - 19:19 Turnigy® Fire Retardant LiPoly Battery Bag (120x53x42mm) - $2.53 (Success) 19:20 - 20:04 Force RC LiPo Charge Protection Bag- Large - 14.99 (Fail?) 20:05 - 20:57 The Original Liposack - $37.73 (Fail?) 20:58 - 20:47 Multistar Hard Shell Carrying Case for 1400mah 3s Batteries - $11.04 (Success) 21:50 - 22:10 Re-inspection of venom bag 22:10 - 25:11 Conclusion

Sorry to say ,this is totally pointless not using LiPo packs. Nowhere near the intensity and burn time of a 4 or 6 cell pack. Fibreglass lined Silicone coated bags are the only ones I would trust.

If ever I need to safely store fuse line I know what not to use. As for LiPo's I'll completely disregard everything I've seen here. You should learn how to carry out comparison tests.

I love seeing testing done for our benefit. Thank you! But...Ummmm... I gotta.... ummmm.....say, that aaaaaa......after the ummmm..... 15th or ummmm 20th "UMMmmmm and aaaaaah".................. (25 in just the first three minutes, and it never stops!) Well, it just starts to grate on, ummmm.... my brain! Good side is................ Well, now I need a beer, and to order a few good bags thanks to you! Peace!

Ignore what you've seen here. Take a look at the Tests Flite Test did on LiPo bags. Much more scientific and real world. And they actually used LiPo batteries, I wonder why:?

You always comment on how they hold up as if they're meant to be reused after a "situation" I'm pretty sure the whole point it for the bag or case to prevent your house from burning down. Given your test environment, theres not really any surroundings in danger of burning down. Maybe in your next test "if there is one" then try to change the surroundings!!! Otherwise I appreciate the context.

I’ve been thinking of a version three with several factors and other brands involved. I may setup a patreon because these are very expensive tests to run and everyone has an opinion…

@@angryzeppelin2750 A cheap improvement would be to put a fresh piece of paper under each bag. That would give a rough relative measure of the heat damage to the surface the bag is on. At a cost of under ten cents.

They should stop selling battery bags... they don't stop LiPo explosions. Period. Get a metal container, and only charge away from flammable sources. I almost lost my house to a bul$hit battery bag and cheap charger.

Ammo can and a extension cord? Vented of course?
@jeffreystockman

@@streaydog019 Drill a couple decent sized holes in the ammo can for venting, of course, and/or you can remove the waterproof seal.
