Absolutely, most covers overfill Tom´s lyrics with their own interpretations, so they missed the bus. I would say that Lisa fit Tom´s version only by converting all his emotions into a womans voise. Best from Germany
Absolutely correct. Another important piece is the emphasis on the keys and the vocal timing. Bette Midler and Marissa Mulder did covers and it just lacked something. No offense to Midler or Mulder fans.

As an older man, who regularly catches himself looking back on loves long gone by, I find this both a beautiful and heart-rending performance. Waits is a truly great song-writer, and this is a truly great version.

I heard Lisa and Cormac perform this live for their friends/my cousins wedding. Blew me away. I never heard this before. You could hear a pin drop in the room. A beautiful and honest cover. Anyone can sing a song but only a few can interpret like Lisa and Cormac do on this one. Beautiful piano playing blended with a haunting voice and impeccable timing from both performers. Already in process of buying material from both Lisa and Tom waits because of this cover.

That was impressive. As said below she nailed it. Each nuance in tone and each and every word. How she did it without choking up baffles me. I sure wish they panned the audience on the last phrase.
For a young female singer I will admit...she has done an excellent job. She nailed the emotion, the sincerity that is needed to put this song over. The audience is absolutely silent. Her version has a touch of angst -- but, it works with her at times quivering voice. She kept the drama to a minimum. She had them all in the palm of her hand. Bravo.

Best cover of this song. A match for the original. Maybe helped by thoughts of the obvious Tom Frost in her own life. Her cover of Moon River is also outstanding.
surely the master himself would approve of this - a truly exceptional rendering of an extraordinary song. Another one to watch and listen to is Freddie Whites interpretation - again Tom would no doubt approve. These artists are among our greats here in Ireland
