Thanks John, Jake Eddy, Jordan Tice, Jeremy and the rest of your team. Always appreciate John’s infectious laughter and the guitar reviews that let the guitars do the more of the talking.

Big Yamaha fan here. I have a FS5X red label which led me to an LS36, which is a hand-crafted guitar. Both are wonderful, and the LS36 is really incredible!

how much better is it (LS36) in comparison to LL16D ? How you ever played it side by side ? Thank you.

I'm thrilled that Yamaha is going to offer some premium handbuilt bluegrass models! I have their LL56, and have long-wished that they would create a premium mahogany dread. Until now, their best such line was the red label dreads, but while I do love them, they're not up to the level of the handmade LL's. I have an FGX3 that I chose over an FG5 based purely on sound after trialing both for a month. I felt like the FGX3 was shockingly great for the price point, whereas I was disappointed that the FG5 wasn't better to my ears. I was also disappointed that the FG5 was 'as good as it gets' along the vein of Yamaha's mahogany b&s dreads. I'm hopeful that that this new FG9 will be equivalent to the LL56 in terms of the quality of sound, playability, materials, and aesthetics. If so, I've got 2 new mahogany b&s guitars at the top of my wishlist for 2023: the Touchstone Country Boy and the FG9. Btw, Eastman makes a spectacular Adirondack/mahogany guitar with their E10D (and E10D-tc) for about 1/3 the price of the FG9. It will be interesting to see if the FG9 sounds better than the Eastman counterparts.

They do bring a force to recon with compared to other high end builders. Sounds like it’s fair to say almost no one will be able to buy one. 150 units in a year means good luck finding one. It really helps that you each play well. Pretty hot chops there boys!

Big Yamaha fan! Have an FG180 (1969) FG5, FS3, and a 1983 DY73 Yairi, Japanese guitars are legendary take one over Martin taylor or Gibson any day and the price can’t be beat! May be grabbing an FG9 if I can find one.

@greenfinmusic5142 Год назад
Yeah, the FG5 is only around $1500, so it's quite a price difference going up to $4000. It'll be interesting to see/hear/feel what Yamaha can do to justify that difference. The FG5 is already a wonderful guitar, so I'm excited to see how much Yamaha can improve on it.

Huge Fan of Yamaha, I would almost Dare another company to compete with em ! A 335 was my first guitar in about 1977. It's been in the Pouring Rain , Picking on stage , It's been left out in the sun too long ,, and it never moved or warped ! I have my Father -in-laws Original Red Label FG- 60 , I think ! and plays great ! Love em Love em !

Yeah, I was anticipating baked tops. I wonder if they left the tops unbaked due to the new process they mentioned of thinning the sound board near the edges? Maybe they were worried that the thinning combined with baking might affect the structural integrity too much?
