Listening to Moonbyul from Mamamoo SING for the 1st time!!! 

To be honest, she can sing better than some of the vocalists of other groups.

Honestly just seeing her get her confidence back and start singing again really makes us proud, unfortunately their company made her self conscious about her singing voice and she stopped singing for years, she started again in 2018 but only a little and I think she started having lessons again only in 2019. She obviously loves being a rapper now but her company made her become a rapper if she wanted to debut because “they had enough singers in the group and the others were better”. I’m so happy to see her gaining her confidence again

Moonbyul auditioned for RBW (their company) as a vocalist, they forced her to rap, made her unconfident in singing beyond MMM’s harmonies, and it’s only been really in more recent years (2018ish?) that she’s been singing more which is great I really love her vocal tone.

YES, our moonstar...💕 She was originally trained as a vocalist but then take a part as a rapper. Fun fact is moonbyul's voice sound so similiar with wheein's voice, if u lower wheein's voice to byul range she sounds exactly like byul.

I wasn't able to finish my comment on the original video, so regarding the Snow performance, yes, she was very nervous about that since it was the first time she would sing on national tv without her group. The song was also not "planned" to be performed on music shows, the broadcasting company actually asked her to do so for a special episode and everything was kinda spontaneous as far as I know (there's also a behind the scenes video for this on mmmtv). Oh, and actually the first video was the newest one and it's still pretty rare for us moomoos to hear her sing (and actually belt) since this didn't really happen for a long long time after their debut, but she recently mentioned that she's receiving vocal training as well. Thanks for the reaction and I'm waiting for more mamamoo videos to come :)

Fun fact: she initially trained as a vocalist but the company RBW made her switch to rapping. That's how she lost confidence in her singing which she is now slowly regaining with the support of Moos!

As far as dancers in Mamamoo, Wheein and Moonbyul are the two most specialized in it. They have different styles though. It'd be awesome if you could check out some of their dance covers. Wheein especially has released multiple dance covers this year alone as well as Moonbyul over the years

Bruh her voice is better than some of the main vocals in other groups

Moonbyul is a type that always keep everything herself. There's a reason Solar was frustrated with her and led it to the Cereal Fight. Also she wasn't very confident bc of her past. First when in prev company, she was kicked from her group (and she was the leader and one of vocalist in there) bc she couldn't maintain her weight (if I'm not wrong) and it led her to extreme diet as you can see in earlier Mamamoo performances (even though RBW didn't really care anymore about it). Other members forced her to eat more though (especially that Moonbyul rarely in her home, as she was appeared a lot in Solarsido's videos. There's a reason she was called as homeless hamster) (don't feed her spicy food tho, she hated it). Then when in RBW she was clearly a vocalist as she was trained for it, but RBW wanted her as a rapper. RBW said it wasn't bc Moonbyul wasn't talented as vocalist, her vocal trainer said Moonbyul suited as vocalist (they were shocked when MB was a rapper), but bc Mamamoo was already a vocal group and to spice it more RBW wanted a rapper so they picked Moonbyul. Obviously Moonbyul should take it but she began for zero again or she couldn't debut. And Hwasa (and Solar or Wheein too if I'm not wrong) taught her a bit too about rapping. It made her self conscious more than before, as she wasn't that confident. But she began to love rapping and her position as rapper. She also began to be more friendly and approachable, expressed her feeling more. I think Moonbyul is the only member who had most idol friends. And her juniors always asked advices to her, like ONEUS in Road to Kingdom who called her. But again, she was still a private person, she even never tell her friends about she got vocal trained again until in vlive when she was with Solar and Solar was as shocked as the fans. It's funny bc Moonbyul is very close to Solar, they always together like Wheein with Hwasa, Moonbyul always went to Yong Sisters' house to steal foods, and Solar is Mamamoo's LEADER, yet she never told Solar about the vocal trainer. Moonbyul was lucky that Solar wasn't that upset or it will lead to another Cereal Fight and the MoonSun Cold War that happened for days when they still had concerts. I kid you not it were very awkward concerts when Solar always avoided Moonbyul

Appreciate your perspective on where Moonbyul can improve on. I think the fact that she’s starting to get more vocal parts and she started taking vocal lessons show that she’s stepping outside of her comfort zone. The great part about MMM is you see them continuously improving themselves through the years. For example, we didn’t see Byul’s belts until 2019 when they released Ten Nights and the producer made her do it because they believed in her. No one could have imagined her doing that in 2017 or 2018 even.

I think most moomoos would enjoy your criticism, it is a good thing to be criticized if you strive for greatness which Mamamoo as a whole does. I do agree she isn’t the most technical singer but I do personally enjoy her singing a lot, specially since she is on the lower register for a female kpop singer. I agree she has a lot of growth to do, but I see that she has potential. Maybe I’m ignorant and don’t know, but that is my opinion. That last part sounds so harsh, I didn’t mean to deliver that that aggressively. I enjoy someone honest, and I do like your honest opinions. I enjoy the fact that I can learn listening to your criticism and perhaps sharpen a little my own ear. I tend to be softer with Moonbyul because of her history as a singer, she has dealt with big blows to her confidence therefore I tend to feel empathetic. It was and still is a very sad story, I do agree that as of today rapper Moonbyul is the best however vocalist Moonbyul is a rare treat for moomoos.

If you want to check out moonbyul's style, then i recommend eclipse. Not great to judge her singing but it really shows her style and her dancing. Mirror + moon and absence are also good.

The charm of her voice is in the beautiful tone she has and the contrast with the other members. Also she has this rhythm and flow even when singing that the others don't have. She's often the one who brings the x factor to their songs because of how versatile and different from the other members she is. And thanks to her versatile they don't feel obligated to have a rap verse on every song, she can fit well with songs that need singing (or rap-singing)

You are very correct about her being more confident while performing. She is most of the time is the one who hypes up the crowd. She is super energetic and always smiling while on stage.

We rarely get insight on her voice given that she's more known as a rapper so thank you for the dedicating a video to her! She herself acknowledged that she's still growing as a vocalist and only went back to taking vocal lessons this year. Her live vocals in her online concert were her best performance so far which is a shame cause it's not open to view for the general public. Back in 2017, when a radio DJ asked her if she can sing too, she replied that her skills at the time were still not "good enough" to be evaluated so she politely refused to sing a snippet. Even in the live after she released Snow she was asked by a fan to sing it on the spot and she was obviously still very shy and was extremely nervous when she was asked by Music Bank PD to perform the song. Given that it was her first solo performance on a music show and it was a ballad. But this year she really gained so much confidence, singing so much on her Instagram lives (which was incredibly rare before) and I hope with the confidence she continues to grow on her technique. The members have always been so supportive and encouraging of her singing and it's really sweet. Really, the growth of one Mamamoo member contributes to their growth as a group :)

11:15 what you're describing is an empathic trait. You feed off the energy that you're receiving from the crowd, hearing the cheers, and seeing the excitement pulls out something that makes you want to live up to that hype that you're receiving.

byuli is not the most technically proficient vocalist among the group but she is still quite talented and she has the will and desire to improve so the future will only be better and brighter for her and her talents. DAY 8 of requesting a reaction to little mix. not sure why you sleeping on them, they are the epitome of talent and alien/unicorn level blends and harmonies.

Moonbyul is my bias tbh so I dropped everything to watch this haha. Hearing your feedback broke my heart a little bit but I know you are just being honest and I appreciate that. :) Keep it up! As for recommendations I suggest Absence MV and some eclipse live performances. Eclipse is more rap-y and absence is heartfelt. Iljido is cool too but it's kinda the same vibe as the rest so I would still suggest Eclipse and Absence :)

What so amazing about Moonbyul that she always amazes you ! That you can never know her singing abilities vocal range dance rap and producing abilities she is always progressing as an artist which makes you excited for every work she do because you know there’s always a little surprise for you !!

I think Moonbyul's songs like Absence, Iljido, and Weird Day demonstrates her best assets vocally, so I would highly recommend checking those MVs out. I agree she's not the most consistent or well-rounded singer, but when she hits her stride, she REALLY sounds addictive (like in the songs I mentioned).

Moonbyul has a voice that is not like the other mamamoo members who have a strong high note, but among the mamamoo members she has a voice that makes the song easy to hear even if the music isn't. because the voice has a low tone but there are still notes and melodies in the sound. That kind of voice like Moonbyul is rare. Singing does not have to have high notes, but when singing there are notes and melodies in the voice that make people feel how beautiful the music is. Moonbyul's low voice not many people can do even though they have high notes. on mamamoo Moonbyul and Hwasa who have strong characteristics and don't get bored hearing their voices. I'm one of those fans who really likes that kind of voice like moonbyul. And when she sings and raps she's the best. She's the best singer and rapper in the kpop industry

Wheein and Moonbyul are both dancer of mamamoo. Just like there’s no main or lead difference between the vocals, there no officially main dancer between Wheein and Moonbyul. She said recently that she had been having vocal lessons and not many people knew, apparently even Solar didn't know and they are basically always together. I really hope we get to hear more vocal parts in their next comeback from Byul. Regarding who is the best dancer, it's really hard to say as they are all extremely good. For me as a moomoo, I'm so happy that she started singing more. From what I know, she trained as a vocalist, but since the company already had this much power house vocalists (originally, MMM would have 5 members), they said that she had to be the rapper (I think that it's because her lower voice), otherwise, she wouldn't be able to debut with them. She then started to learn rapping and actually became better than a lot of rappers that I see around. Only around 2018 that she started to have small vocal parts in MMM's songs. Recently she seemed to get more confortable with singing and gave us songs like Snow and Absence (my all time favorite songs of her). That being said, I would like to thank you for this analysis. It's very refreshing since most vocal coachs that reacted to them don't give any construtive criticism maybe because they are scared of giving an offense. I love your channel, don't ever change. :D

This performance of snow was the first solo that she sings in a music show. I think she was very nervous. This performance have a behind the scenes and was very nervous. When the company determined that she will be the rapper she stoped with her vocal training to begin her rap lessons. Just this year she start again with her vocal training. I think she have a good voice and just need some time. The other members has been training for years and look at then now. I think she have a brilliant future if she keeps the lessons. Also yes to her being better singing live... surprisingly, all Mamamoo member does 😄 You should watch MMM 4C4S concert in your own time! She sings a lot there, so good. Also want to add that oftentimes rap part in idol songs treated like embellishment/additional part but in lots of Mamamoo song....I find that Byul's part is actually the highlight.

I think i really like your honest reaction. You chosee your word carefully that didn't hurt her fans's feeling while stay true to your honest opinion. And yes, as her fans i agree with you. She is capable of singing. Her tone was unique especially in kpop where most of the female singer has high pitch tone, while here she was has depth one. But she needs to work on her technique more to become better in singing. And in my honest opinion, yes she is better than some vocalist (not main vocal) of other group in singing.

Tidbit about the Snow reaction at the end. The music show PD must be a moonbyul fan because the song was a gift for fans and only released for fans on mamamoo channel. They found it, must have loved it because they contacted Moonbyul and asked her to perform as a special on music show, not something she initially planned to do. But she did to use it as practice for her album solo stage. That week her performance was actually picked by the music show as performance of the week by the broadcast PDs. 😍 Also the stage they created for her was very beautiful

Glad you were honest - what you said was about what I expected. She recently said she's been getting help from a vocal coach so I think we'll see consistent improvement. Byul was a singer rather than a rapper until she joined MMM but she became one of the best female rappers in kpop, which shows the kind of commitment and hard work she puts in to excel at her craft. I'm sure she'll also put in the work needed to jump up to the next level as a singer.

Fun fact Byul's vocal training stopped since their trainee days (so around 8-9 years ago) but a few months ago she mentioned that she just started taking vocal training again. As for the dancing Wheein and Moonbyul are "the dance line" in Mamamoo but I remember seeing a video by a dancing teacher and she said that objectively speaking Wheein has the best technique, then Byul, then solar then Hwasa. so I guess Wheein has the best technique both in singing and dancing X)

Moonbyula is my favorite rapper of all kpop girl groups. But as far as vocals/singing are regarded i think the song that makes her justice the most, is Absence from her last album 門OON (at least to my taste ofc) . Personally speaking, I think Moonbyul has a lot of great solo songs, such as Iljido (my favorite), In My Room, Moon Movie, Worthless/Love and Hate, and more. She’s really a good vocalist and I’m glad RBW lets her release two solo albums this far. I think the best is yet to come.

She definitely has room for growth, but I actually want to point out that her vocal training has was, for a period of time, on hold slightly. I don’t know if she’s gotten to restart. She mentioned in a livestream getting the training before her virtual concert, but hadn’t been able to continue after it (possibly covid related). She probably does plan on personal vocal ventures in the future, as a side thing (“Moon Movie Season 2”. Trying To Say Goodbye cover was the first of the sequel series. But she said more won’t be until after the next comeback, I think.

If you want to hear a rapper that’s also a good vocalist like Moonbyul, EXOs main rapper Chanyeol is also a brilliant vocalist, EXO are known to have a very powerful vocal line with their lead singers.

Mamamoo concerts are always with a live band, some dance songs have mild backing track usually for the chorus, regarding the best dancer in the group its actually just preference, they are all good at dancing, each member have different pace in learning choreo but when on stage they always give their best. But as far position goes wheein and moonbyul are official performers(in charge of dancing, it is weird they are called performers cuz all of mmm are good at it) thanks for watching, you should start reacting to some of their behind the scenes vids in their channel, they are naturally funny (you can search mmmtv episodes) I recommend how to play in the car mmmtv

They actually don't have official 'main' positions, they just say that they're in charge of vocal, performance, or rap. These are only their official positions in the group: Solar - vocal & leader Moonbyul - rap & performance (dance) Wheein - vocal & performance (dance) Hwasa - vocal & rap As for Wheein and Moonbyul's dancing, we can't really say who's better at it since they have a completely different style of dancing But in my opinion, Wheein's dancing style is the one that I like the most, since I think she's very versatile and can differently dance to any form... (Fun fact: Moonbyul hates anything that involves hip movements in dancing 😂)

Thanks on the insight.. Just a curiosity.. Vocal coach reactors always mention that moonbyul is a good rapper but never really describe or explain any further as to why her rapping skill is good. Hence i would like to ask in what grounds do you say that she is a good rapper.. what makes her rapping skills much better than her singing skills? Is rapping by any way, shape or form really should be deemed as a lesser skill than singing? Or should her rapping skills be judged by a different type of reactors.. it has always been my curiosity as to why reactors can only say she has good rappings skills and never really go in depth on an analysis as to what makes her good? Apologies if this sounded rude, i was just wondering since ur the first reactor i have watched that broke down her weaknesses, stated her threats, mentioned a couple basic strength and 1 opportunity.. hence i would really want to understand how her skills in rapping works..

I'm wondering in the first clip, could the soft breathy start be a stylistic choice? So it builds up and the belting sounds better? I have a feeling she uses her vocal training but maybe can't unlearn her breath technique she's been using for rapping and speak-singing with a lot of dancing. Also, can you train to breathe in silently? I vaguely remember a vocal coach commenting on good technique both making it more silent and doing more on one breath. (I already get out of breath mouthing words along silently, let alone attempting to sing 😄)

It's okay Austin, I really appreciate your honesty and your good will. I really am at first is a moonbyul bias. But, as the time goes by I was being bias wrecked by everyone in Mamamoo. In harmonization, she sounds so good. Well, it's that Mamamoo's ace. But, in term of vocally singing sometimes I also want her to challenge herself a little bit more. Maybe, that's kinda my selfish wish. I know she has a problem with singing confidence in the past, but I can see that she tries to overcome it little by little. Anyway, I still enjoy her and Mamamoo performance regardless. My heart already attached to them, lol. Oh btw, the main dancers in Mamamoo are Wheein and Moonbyul cause they are in performance line. Moonbyul moves is kinda swaggy and smooth but I think Wheein is more all rounder dancer and her moves is also smooth and her rhytms is so good.

I love when she sings, I know that she dont have a lot of technique, but when she sings she is improoving her confidence and showing her fragile side to us

on the 'best dancer'... moonbyul and wheein are the official performance line, the ones who specialize in dance. and it's amazing when the two dance together (there's some beautiful pre-debut footage, among other things). individually, though, their styles are so drastically different that it can be hard to compare the two unless you're a professional dancer (and i've even seen one or two of them mention the style differences made it hard to determine). byul tends to be more comfortable with what's traditionally considered masculine dance, a lot of foot and hand movement, which you saw aspects of in the "worthless" video. she also is really fond of freestyle dances where she can just show off whatever she wants to (and she at least used to be able to do a mean moonwalk) wheein is more well-known for hitting the beat perfectly with her moves, the point moves being sharp and precise while everything between those flows almost liquid-like. she's got her own personal dance crew, a group of friends she hangs out and dances with, several of whom are also choreographers. one of them has choreographed much of her solo dance work as well as a decent amount of things for mamamoo as a whole when talking about their dance capabilities, byul herself put wheein first, saying she's the first to pick up the choreo they're learning (unless they make it themselves. things work differently then) and then starts helping teach it to the others. she's also the one to remember the choreo the longest and help remind the others as needed. byul is next to catch on and solar and hwasa both take a bit of extra work but for different reasons. solar is pretty clumsy (so is wheein, actually) and often has trouble with keeping beat or timing (a lot of her 'yeba moments' onstage are because of this) while hwasa isn't particularly fond of choreographed work and kind of just wants to move as she feels the music. because of that she's also the first one to forget the choreo, though they've all said they tend to forget it all about two weeks after they stop promoting whatever song it was for

There is something so unique and interesting in Byul's voice, it has some kind of charm because every time she releases a song I get so attached to it, I can listen for months and not get tired, idk, maybe she's not technically that good but she's definitely so charming, I really love her solo songs so much, but like of course I appreciate the honest appreciation and opinion, I'm very glad you still in the Mamamoo rabbit hole.

I can agree that there are areas she can improve on but as MooMoos that been with the group since the beginning where Moonbyul did not sing or wasnt invloved in singing solo, every chance we heard Moonbyul sing was rewarding to us. Snow is her birthday gift to the fans. More live... try the F/w Concert solo. Her newer songs like Eclipse, Iljido, and Absence are all in her paid concert. I don't think anyone shared it in youtube. Ahahaha that concert is adorable and she's very bad at cooking. Love your constructive critics, Byul will develop more for sure. 😁 Oh on the dancer, no one. They have different styles. Wheein can memorize the whole dance in 20 minutes, like hip hop. Byul is more on Urban type of dance. Hwasa and Solar are more on the sexy side.

I think for the first song, it's a cover, so it might not suit her voice as well as the second one which she made with her producer. It could also be her intention to keep it safe and build a certain climax for the song. But overall, I can see how more comfortable she is with rap parts/upbeat songs than ballad ones. Moonbyul had been vocal trained before she became the rapper. And for a long time after debut, she was uncomfortable and shy when it came to her singing (also, some of Mamamoo's first songs and collabs were made without her voice, which was deeply deeply hurtful). Recently, she has been having some vocal lessons again and giving her effort to improve her singing as well as showing it more (which can be clearly heard in Mamamoo songs as time goes by, still waiting for your reaction). She has been giving us many covered songs with her own written rap parts as her own color (the third song was a ballad she wrote, too). We Moomoos always root for her to shine more and grateful that she shared her journey to grow as a vocalist with us. I think the vocal coach opinions like yours really help us to understand the artist we love more, so thank you 😊

You reacted to her! I got another notification too but it seems the video is no longer available. Thank you for you opinions and yes I too would love to see my baby challenge herself vocally. She is getting there. She just needs to feel the support from the fandom because she gives up easily. She has started taking vocal training so in a couple of years we will see where she is at. Hopefully she releases more covers and gets longer vocal parts in mamamoo songs. Also for the best dancer in the group, they all have different dance styles especially moonbyul who prefers what most would call masculine dances but she doesn't believe in gender stereotypical labelling (and I agree with her) and hwasa who just goes with the flow. So it's based on personal preference.

I think we hype a lot with moonbyul because we followed her grow in vocals. She was mostly focused on rap after mamamoo debut. So now is againg training her vocals and using it more, if we compare first clips of her singing and now it's amazing how she is taiting her range of vocals. I like how she is not trying to go all, because mamamoo members have great vocals, but taking time and learning.

I love when a rapper can sing. Moonbyul, Jooheon and I.M (Monsta X), ect. It shows they are performers, artists.

They really, really shine as performers. Their ad libs during shows are legendary. Shortly after they signed with RBW, the girls started an insane concert tour, something like 40+ concerts in one Summer, hitting a bunch of South Korean college campuses. Apart from giving them a ready supply of cash to cover some of their financial obligations to RBW, it gave them some serious performance chops (specially Solar who goes absolutley bananas during her live stages). And boy do they all know how to get their fans to a fever pitch. I will add my vote to Whee In as the best dancer, followed by Moonbyul. Those two have some insane hip hops numbers they've done together. They're mesmerizing.
