Hello from Denver, Colorado USA. Just want to say that I really appreciate the videos, especially to outcropping in-situ field examples. The diagrams showing ore formation processes followed by on-site field examples is really helping my understanding of how to recognize zones in the field. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Another great video. Audio is much improved. Not too far from where I live in Oregon we (apparently, I wouldn't know how to test it) have dendritic intrusion of manganese into some of our agates. I was out collecting some blue agate samples and found what looked to me like a fern imprint that I later discovered was a large dendrite. (The agate cleaved right on the intrusion)

There was recently a large lithium find in the USA: Geologists have discovered a massive lithium deposit within the McDermitt Caldera along the Nevada-Oregon border, potentially revolutionizing the global lithium supply chain. The deposit is estimated to contain 20 to 40 million metric tonnes of lithium, with unprecedented quality that surpasses any previous find.

Thank you so much for putting my work into context. I'm a geophysicist with Bell Geospace and I flew the Cornish Lithiium full tensor gravity gradiometry survey in early 2022. We fly at around 80m altitude and the views were spectacular! I've been at it for over 20 years and up until the 2008 crash, when mineral prices dropped, most of our exporation was for metals and diamonds (we even flew a Zeppelin in Botswana!). Since then it's been largely oil and gas but I see from your videos that the demand for many metals is expected to outstrip supply. Perhaps I can look forward to some more exciting surveys!

Oh that's cool, I have a PhD student starting this October looking at testing rock properties and geophysical tools for exploration of geothermal lithium in Cornwall. It's a collab with Cornish Lithium so it's very likely we'll be looking at your data too!

@@ourmetallicearth I hope the data is useful! The gradiometer responds to density contrasts but with much higher resolution than scalar gravity surveys and the full tensor measurement allows some clever 3D modelling. We're currently flying geothermal surveys in Germany too 😀

Glad you like it :) My specialism is structural geology but I've always had a bit of an interest in mineralogy and ores, including spending some time in ores exploration before pursuing an academic career! I do like to be able to apply my research skills to solve real-world problems and do something that hopefully benefits the society or industry directly, rather than just do academic research. So I was very happy to have the opportunity to get into ore geology research after joining Leeds University.

All sources of lithium are going to be important. Number three on the periodic table indicates metalic reactivity, the best and lightest battery metal despite problems. As fossil fuel use declines, battery use will increase significantly.

Depends on how much fresh water there is available to dilute the brine, so rainy periods for example would bring in more fresh water
