Start your DIY 12V system with a solid LITHIUM BATTERY FOR COLD CLIMATE if you are planning to go Overlanding in Norway during winter or other winter trips. ❄️
In this video I will show you my stage one Auxiliary / Dual battery setup and my plans for auxiliary power, and I will start on the CB Radio install.
If you start with this stage one setup you can get started with your own DIY 12V power system today and build on it as you go along and find your needs and preferences. And at the end you could have a full duel battery setup with solar power and everything in between.
A good Lithium battery is a great place to start as you get so much for you money and you can start using it on your trips right away, if only to run your fridge or camping lights. Charge at home and happy camping.
I have never installed a CB radio before and it turned out to be an okay job, and quite fun in the beginning. In part two you will see the not so fun part.
But after watching this video and the next one you will I gotten to see where I end up putting the auxiliary battery and where and how I installed my new CB Radio.

Hi Hi, Simon great to see you starting to get the auxiliary power set up. It will make a big difference for you on your trip. I have decided to replace my CB as I've had 2 second hand units neither of which have been great. I really like the idea of the controls being on the hand set with the main body in the rear as you are proposing so I'll definitely go that route😁 looking forward to seeing part 2 but also your trip footage too. Good morning Simon! Glad you liked the video! 👍😊 The CB-radio has been working great and can’t fault it. Nice to get a new setup that you know should work as intended. In the uk I think you need to check the regulations about the hand controls. Something about it looking like a mobile phone because of the dials. But the CRT Mike 2 which I linked underneath has VOX so I think that could be a good option. Also you can switch from UK to EU standards on it. Will start on the trip content as soon as the next video is out, and I can’t wait to get started. It’s going to be a really great Overlanding in Norway series. Best, Simon

Hi Simon, Your radio mounting idea is great! I am going to copy that! Also interested to see how you will mount the battery. Working on vehicles and boats always requires a blood payment, you’ve made yours. Cheers, Bob & Jill

Been using an ecoflow delta 2 max , use it for my diesel heater and other things, very impressed so far. Can charge from outlet, 12 volt or solar . Light weight compared to some of my AGM batteries, and has a nice app .

Nice Craig! Seen the Ecoflow products, seems a bit pricey, but in turn you get a complete system and someone had to create that system. For overlanders I believe lithium is the only way forward, the weight factor alone is enough to pick lithium. The price/cycles is another, lithium is only a win. 👌 Be sure to update us after a year or two on how the Ecoflow works out! 😉 Best, Simon

Hey and thank you! Do you mean the net on the plastic section that I took out? Or the net that I have put in the roof? The net on the left hand side trunk plastic came with the car. I don't think it's a separate part as the plastic seams to be a solid moulded piece. Maybe you can find it some where second hand. The net in the roof, also followed the car as a cargo net. I found it in the rear when building a new platform, unused in the side "pocket" and it just fits on the handle bars of the front and rear seating position. Hope that helps, Simon.
