I’d use acetone to remove the eyes and mouth from the mandrake. Then I’d repaint the face using acrylic paints, making it a realistic face and adding creases to the body. Lastly I’d go over the whole thing with a brown wash to add shading and make it not so shiny. A spray of sealer would make it waterproof. Oh and before painting, I’d give it a light sanding.

Does acetone even work on glaze? I mean glaze is burned into the ceramic at 1250 to 1400 °C. Does acetone do anything to glazed things?

I love the Mandrake pot, I was able to fit a succulent(a small panda plant, it's doing great) in the actual Mandrake and put them together with soil around the Mandrake part and it's the cutest thing.

It wasn't my favourite crate of their's but I did like everything and I actually love the Mandrake as something cute for my window plants but I totally get what you mean by preferably authentic looking items, as I wouldn't some of them on my book shelf with previous items I've gotten. But given all the issues they had I'm just glad everything finally arrived and in perfect condition.

Favourites definitely the cup and saucer that was amazing! The rest was good really good but When you see how incredible the keys are in the add on box it shows how weak the main box was. Those keys were incredible

I liked the cup and saucer, and was glad they sent me both pieces of the mandrake pot. And the monster book of monster box was soft and cute. Personally for a box that is supposed to represent magical classes...I was kind of disappointed that a wand wasn't included...but maybe that is just me. 😊

I wish I could buy add-ons without buying the box sometimes. In my personal opinion the quality of add-ons I’ve gotten lately have been great, while the boxes almost don’t seem worth the money with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 items per box. Also, I really want the keys and after paying for the box I can never afford the keys as add-ons; I can only afford smaller and cheaper add-ons.

The add ons do go to their shop a month or two after the box shipped out but you’re chancing something selling out to subscribers. I’ve cancelled my sub since I only really want the keys too so I’m going to try for that method.

Thank you for being so honest, Cherry! It's one of the reasons why I love watching your videos. ☺️ This box has received very mixed reviews, and while I personally do feel that it is worth the money, I definitely also think that it's not on par with their other boxes. I know that a lot of people are upset because of the spelling errors, but I honestly don't really mind them, since they are quite subtle. However, I do think that the quality of the salt and pepper shakers is lacking and I hope that this won't happen again, since they told us that they have expanded their quality control-team.

I totally agree. It was a very expensive "miss the mark" for me. I have to tell you. I am quite disappointed in this box. I hope that the next box will be of the high quality standard we've become accustomed to.

Out of all the litjoy boxes I've had so far - this was my least favourite - spelling mistakes on the tea cup and mandrake and then my mandrake based arrived with cracks in - quality control for this box seems to have gone out the window. Add one were better this time round than the box - going to wait for the fantastic beasts box and then night have to cancel because of the expense

I still haven't even received the pot part of the mandrake, but I was so disappointed in this box too. I think the quality was so much better when there were only 2 per year. I think they've tried to bite off more than they could handle

This was my first litjoy crate box and I was so excited for the classes. It was kinda a let down. The only think I really liked was the tea cup.

This is my first mandrake and divination cup so they were automatically my favorite. While I wish the Mandrake was completed with ceramic leaves, I regret that choice after the ceramic shortage. Also, I like how they give you the option to do what you want. While there are spelling errors on both of them, I barely noticed them when I was excited about opening them.

I have been watching you unbox these boxes for a long time and subscribed from the original magical crate year 4, they are usually bang on and top quality. I found this box to be quite childish and considering the cost and that most of us subscribers are older witches and wizards, (I’m 47) LitJoy really missed the mark with this box and the last one wasn’t great either. With multiple spelling mistakes it’s just not the quality I expect from them. Let’s hope they listen to their subscribers and get back to the quality crates we know they can produce. 😘

I am a younger subscriber so a regular subscription of these boxes just wasn't possible. I had saved up for this box and it was a one off purchase so I am very disappointed with this box.

I LOVE the cup and saucer in this crate. My mandrake pot was missing because of the mishap they had with broken items so I will get it in a later shipment. I think it's cute. I kill all plants so I will put something fake in it to give the mandrake some "hair". I love the coins as well. They are very heavy and well made. One of the Lunacorns isn't a fan of magnets so she turned them into pins. I believe she glued some backings on them and they came out quite good. So that is an option if you don't want to use them like magnets. I didn't get all the add ons but they are pretty cool. I really want the Quiddich key but it was not available to purchase when I started to buy from them.

I very much appreciate your honesty! I saw another youtube video where the reviewer noticed that Grim on the teacup and a word on the mandrake ceramic base label were misspelled & spelled differently on the cheat sheet soooo yikes! BUT I know they’ve had a bit of a rough go getting this box together so hopefully the fantastic creatures box is epic, I’m very excited for it! ❤️

i have a little bonzi tree which looks like a mandrake, the roots curl in to legs and arms and it even has dents that looks like a face. I got it from ikea and love it

thank you for your honesty! it was also my least favourite, I gave my 9 year old most of the items that came in this crate and she loved them. I loved the tea cup even with the spelling mistake. I watched your unboxing of the year 3 crate and there was a coffee mug in it that said "my dear you have the Grimm" with the 2 m's on it, it doesn't totally bother me, its still gorgeous and theres little pixies on it which make it cuter! Hoping the next crates improve :) Love watching your videos!!!

I agree. The mug and saucer and the magnets were my favourite the rest were honestly a miss. My salt and pepper shakers had misaligned labels (real bad) and my mandrake thing came cracked (in process of getting replaced). It was my first box and I was expecting more collectibles like the previous box I saw you show.

I received my crate and was kind of disappointed, but I also understand the difficulty the company had with shipping and things that were out of their control. First, I received 2 salt shakers and no pepper. Secondly, I did not receive the pot for the mandrake. LitJoy has excellent customer service and got in touch with subscribers to let them know they were aware of the problems. They said they would send the mandrake pot as soon as they get the new shipment. Then they gave a gift certificate to those that did not get the correct salt/pepper shakers. The cup and saucer were beautiful and the cat bag was cute. I liked some other crates better, but this wasn’t all that bad. I feel for companies who are having shipping headaches. Oh, see, I love the realistic things but since this mandrake pot isn't really meant to be a replica but rather a usable item with a nod to the magical world, I really loved the little mandrake pot part. I think his little grumpy expression is hilarious. I get what you're saying (and love the suggestion by another commenter to repaint it to your own style!) but I just so happen to love this item.

I know you said you think the Monster Books of Monsters box is maybe more for younger witches and wizards but I have a suggestion for what you could do with yours; which is that you could put all of the coins from the boxes in it to keep them together and as a cute display of the lid was kept open of a shelf to display both the box and the coins inside kinda like a treasure chest filled with gold coins.🙂

I thought this box was crap, to put it bluntly. The stickers on my el cheapo salt and pepper shakers were so crooked, it looked like they were put on by a drunkard. On a boat. On a stormy sea. One of them, the top part of the sticker was on the neck of the jar, so not even stuck down. The Grim teacup was spelled Grimm, as in the Brothers Grimm. And they misspelled officinarum on the mandrake pot. I'm giving that to my mum as she has no idea about Harry Potter.

So, I got this box as well mine was missing the base, but I still enjoy them. I have found a great way to use my potion bottles in my kitchen with the cork instead of black stopper, I have a salt and pepper grinder that I use so I put the unground salt crystals and the peppercorns in my bottles they look much more like potion ingredients that way and are still functional for me.

This is reminiscent of the old chicken/egg debate, except that has an answer: the first egg you could say was a chicken egg came from a bird you could not exactly call a chicken. That's just how evolution works, although the distinction isn't such a sharp line as it is a gradient between what you could and what you could not call chicken.

I think the salt and pepper with cork stpppers would make more sense of they gave you a tiny spoon with it to measure out a "pinch". But I think the black silicon are for the "shaking" bit, I guess.

Great video! The answer to the Phoenix and the flame question is - in the words of Luna Lovegood - 'A circle has no end' The question is asked as the password to the Ravenclaw common room when Harry and Luna are going there in Harry Potter and thr Deathly Hallows. I haven't watched the film yet so I don't know if it made it in. Thank you for making such great videos.
