I love how there is that style of drawing and animation that you can immediately notice as European. They have existed from the earliest days of newspaper art and have evolved till today's big budget movies. Especially the shadowing of characters and the use of colors.

This is why I think foreign films (American here) is exceedingly meeting much more critical acclaim than what the US could produce now, especially with how all plastic looking much of animated movies look. That’s not to say that they’re poorly designed, but it’s refreshing to see something not completely made by computers and nice to see it hand drawn Edit: also just wanted to add that another problem with the American animation industry is that they don’t like to produce animations unless it’s: Childrens movies aimed at younger audiences or trashy adult comedies in the vein of family guy or whatever, where as foreign movie studios use them to tell more mature and adult stories

Non-Japanese Non-American animation is pretty much unknown. That's a shame since some countries do some really good movies, France in particular pulls out outstanding works and most of this video shows french films

Let's be honest, Oscars are worthless. They were supposed to make the competition grow and be competitive, but it has become as stagnant as the american cartoons are nowadays. The constant has shifted from "Valuing the greatest and most creative movie of the year" into a "guess which big company gets the prize".

I have seen some of these animated movies, they were truly touching and some even heart-breaking. Including "Persepolis", the story of Marjane Satrapi who had to leave Iran for good after the 1979 revolution. By the way, you seem to have forgotten to add the name "Persepolis" in the description.

A "fucking disgrace" is what you see because you're not looking at the bigger picture and you're picking the trends that suit your bias. I'm still waiting to know who this one of a kind king of animation is according to you guys. The implication is there but I've yet to hear the name of the one who's beating Japan.

Even though Disney, Pixar, and other American animated movie studios saturate the market with samey, sanitized, big budget products, maybe it's a good thing because it makes foreign film makers innovate and be creative to stand out.

I remember watching watership down when I was a kid. The scenes where characters just simply died without warning really shocked me because I had never seen a film with such raw, instantaneous death like that.

I'm from India, and I've never heard about or seen these animations. But damn they look amazing. It's probably because some are French and European but these far exceed other American Animations in quality. This clearly points it out that the Europeans have been in the Animation Industry far longer than the Chinese and Japanese and still hold some presence there.

It's a somewhat cool scene in an ontherwise very boring movie. The movie was made out of a comic which is wayyyy better and has the same art style. Go get it if you can find it in english "Le chat du rabbin" or "The Rabbi's cat". Takes place in 1930's Algeria.

This felt surreal... the other animation ones I've seen, I was able to recognize the difference in quality. But this one genuinely triggered nostalgia for me. The short clips of films like Watership Down, Plague Dogs, Felidae and Persepolis brought back so much. I've gotta have a childhood movie marathon someday!

What’s crazy is all my life, I have felt a connection to Europe. I’ve dreamt of living in Ireland or Scotland specifically. And now there seems to be a booming animation industry in Ireland, at least more than before most likely due to studios like Cartoon Saloon. I’m an incoming animation major who starts my journey in five days. It feels like I’m being driven to go to a place like Ireland in the future, and live out my dreams of being a story artist.

That...that's the kind of animated film that I prefer, because it's the first real animated film that I discovered from my childhood to my life. Not the Disney, Dreamworks, Illumination and others so yes I saw some from the start, but it's clearly his foreign films that I watched the most that I got the most attached to his universes that enters much better 2d-animation style. There is one of my favorite films in this list which for me is the perfect animation for one day an upcoming personal project.

I remember when I stumbled on Birdboy's starting scene on some local channel one night I was awake and bored at 1 am. Man, that was a dark, twisted, crushing yet hopeful emotional rollercoaster that I didn't expect.

От этих мультфильмов несет какой то совсем иной вайб , у них какая то своя отмосфера, когда смотришь понимаешь что это не будет как мультфильмы от дисней, дримворкс и т.д У каждой интресная рисовка/анимация , обожаю такие мульфильмы

I’m French, and I’m so glad to see so many movies that have built my childhood and who I am today. Azur et Asmar, Kirikou, Le Roi et L’oiseau, Ma Vie de Courgette, Persepolis, Ernest et Célestine, the movie about a mute kid who sees the ghost of someone in coma, Josep, Le Sommet des dieux, the movie about a blonde girl who travels to one of the poles in search of her father… Too many emotions and good memories.
