I along with many others thoughts that "Robinson Hood" didn't even exist. I shall have to read about the Earl of Huntingdon. Another one for my history playlist. There is an eleventh century church somewhat near Bramley in Surrey. Not been there myself although I always meant to. i shan't be able to now so can't say if it is worth a visit. Cheers.

That was interesting. So, the King was "cunning and sly"? Sounds like a bit of an understatement. He relied on the Divine Right of Kings to not be overthrown then, the line of succession. Fitch just means a side of pork or bacon.

The Dunmow Fitch 😂 Actually valuable and would cost enough now. They had various ways of preserving meats and other foods. Methods we have forgotten through lack of need. Let's hope we don't need again. I wonder if the fitch tradition is still going on? Best wishes.

The US has its Constution and we have the Magna Carta, I've heard this been said. I'm not sure if English law is what is common law or natural law, as opposed to Naploeonic law, which we're increasingly under now. I heard an American talking about this. Sometimes the Americans are more English than the English because it was preserved over there. Its interesting how the Amish still call Americans the English.

I didn't know any of that, especially the Amish part. What did Napoleonic law entail then as it can't of been good looking at how things are today.

@wanderingwilliam5031 I think the gist of it is that the judges decide, so they get rid of juries which they are talking about for some cases. Also assumed guilty until proven innocent instead of the opposite which has been that way for a while. And I think the rule of law part of common law is when there is a landmark case, that is decided upon, then judges have to follow those statutes in deciding the current case, so it's principles and not a kangaroo court where corrupt judges decide on how they feel that day or what the current political ideology demands. The Lucy Letby case stinks as I think she's been made a patsy for problems with the ward she was on and the hospital and NHS.

@wanderingwilliam5031 Mark Windows mentioned Napoleonic Law on one of his podcasts recently on Windows on the World and how its replacing Common Law.

@@lemdixon01 Before I even got to the end of that comment I was thinking of Lucy Letby.

@wanderingwilliam5031 ah right. A youtuber called Mark Mayers has done some extensive videos on why she was framed. He's just a small yourube channel and it was hard to find.
