A Little Egret Egretta garzetta is shown fishing in shallow water in a small London park on a dull January day. The frequent strikes and absence of any obvious fish-captures suggests that the bird was hunting for small invertebrates - probably Freshwater Shrimps Grammarus sp - a large number of which would have been required in order to provide a bird of this size with a decent meal. This film is a single take of this elegant bird and it illustrates how the legs are vibrated in order to disturb any potential prey items from the silt on the river-bed with the bright yellow feet.
