This is a special band and a superb LP. The way that "Time Loves A Hero", "Day or Night" and "Mercenary Territory" flow together in sequence is magical! One of the best, funky rhythm sections ever. 👍👍
Wow, that's awesome Forrest! He was one of the greats, was fortunate enough to see him a few times in the 70's. Was a gut wrencher when he passed. Topanga Canyon days 💓 WALSTIB
Thanks, guys, for providing more Little Feat doing what they excelled at. 'Waiting For Columbus' is a crackling combination of funk, jazz, pop, blues, swamp rock, and New Orleans rhythms, creating such an amazing live gem. One of the best live albums ever. Y'all are killing it, as always.
Gotta keep going with this album. Arguably the greatest live album EVER. With Bonnie Rait, Emylou Harris on background & the greatest horn section, Tower of Power..... we didn't even touch on the group itself yet.... Genius
You guys are awesome! There are hardly any Little Feat reactions on YT. So glad you chose to do this one. This live album is phenomenal. Do yourself a favour and listen to “Mercenary Territory”. There’s a crazy sax solo that you won’t believe until you hear it. Thanks for what you do guys ❤
Linda Ronstadt did make this song a top hit. I believe both versions made Top 100, but only the lady in tight sparkly hot pants and C cups made it to #1 LoL!
YES!! Little Feat reaction. Saw them live in 78 with Lowell George. Great freakin concert! My fav is medley Cold, Cold, Cold/Tripe Face Boogie. It kicks azz. Thanks for checkin out one of my fav bands.
I got to see Little Feat when I was 15 or 16. They were performing at an open air charity event. While they were on stage my mom had me follow her around some equipment and busses and up to a security guard where she didn't say anything about being let back stage, instead what she did was just talk to the guard (a female guard just to clarify so you don't get the wrong idea) but we continued to chat with her for their entire set and when they got off stage and after the initial group of people that had passes had their time and were dispersing the guard gave us a look and stepped aside and let us in. I managed to get the autographs of the entire band (except for the keyboardist who had left early) on the back of a Little Feat bumper sticker and the lead guitarist gave me one of his picks which I had framed and still have on my wall to this day.
Little Feat never disappoints. Funky grooves, excellent musicianship, and great harmonies. An awesome 10 year run from 1969 through 1979. The driving force was Lowell George. Tragic death at a very young age from a combination of heroin and a entire large pizza.
I am so lucky to have seen Little Feat and Lowell George perform this live the year before Lowell died. I had been a fan for several years before this, going back to the "Dixie Chicken" phase of the band. No band matches up to Little Feat. They stand alone. The band continued to carry the flag forward even after George died ("Let it Roll", "Representing the Mambo", and "Shake Me Up"), a tribute to the genius of the rest or the band.
Guys, please do the whole "Waiting for Columbus" live album! It's SO awesome! The groove, the Funk, the slide-guitar-fire, the Tower of Power Horns, the sick rhythm section and background vocals...the SONGS!!!! Little Feat is an unsung GOAT band, if you ask me. I grew up around a lot of Southern Rock (grew up in a small town in Maryland) -- Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Charlie Daniels Band, Marshall Tucker Band, etc. I have a conflicted relationship with SR. I know it has a ton of quality, song-writing chops and musicianship to offer, but I grew up around a lot of jerk, Red Neck (see: racist) bullies who listened to that music a lot, and that unfortunately casts a pall over my experience with SR music. But, when I listen to bands like Little Feat, The Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, and even The Outlaws, all that negativity goes away. These guys were/are master musicians, and their music is important, because they made a unique statement, in their time. Lowell George was a true Rock Guitar Hero, full stop. Unfortunately, he had a Rock & Roll death, as his inner-demons of addiction caught up with him. It's so sad, just as Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and many others' deaths were tragic. But we still have their music and it lives on and cannot be forgotten. Great band! Keep going with Little Feat!
Came here to say that same thing. I have heard Little Feat was a lot of people's favorites. Same era the Blood Sweat and Tears were getting same reputation. Michael Clayton-Thomas was another rare singer who had no difficulty signing anything live.
Remember seeing this tour at the Beacon Theatre with the great Lowell George. After hundreds of concerts and many years passing, I still believe this to be one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Thanks for the reaction.
Little Feat was so good especially with Lowell George. It's almost criminal that they weren't more popular and commercially successful compared to their peers during that era. Man, they were so good.
This song on this album is what made me a Little Feat fan. First day managing a headshop, found this on the turntable and played it. Instant fan! Thanks for doing this one, guys.
I saw Little Feat when I was in college. It was the Waiting for Columbus tour and they started off with Fat Man and All That You Dream, just like in the album. One of the best concerts I ever saw!
As everyone has said, this is one of the best live albums ever recorded in the rock world. Other than just listening to it, the best way to tell is to compare these tracks with the studio versions. In so many cases, the live tracks just pop with an energy and vibrance that doesn't come through as well in the studio. All That You Dream is a great example of this, but also Spanish Moon and Time Loves a Hero are -- once you hear them on this album -- are just "missing something" in their studio recordings. You guys could not pick a bad song to react to from this record. Potentially a stylistic difference that doesn't quite suit you but the quality of the performances and the recording and mastering are obvious.
Late 70's, my college student older brother came home on one of his breaks and this LP was in his collection. I couldn't stop listening to it! It changed what I thought music could be. This band was meant to be heard live. Sadly I didn't get the opportunity to see them before Lowell's passing.
I saw little feat in 1977 then saw them at midnight special recording “Dixie chicken” then sadly saw the tribute concert after Lowell George passed away .. great group..
Sweet choice once again - my Airplay Beats playlist just gets better and better. This is a great album for a sunny afternoon in the backyard 😎. Peace and love from Canada ☮️
It's so great your doing some Little Feat, and especially from the Waiting for Columbus album. Their best album!!! They were big back in the day, but still so underrated . The Stones saw them in London on this same tour, and said they blew us away with their instrumentalism , unique rhythms, and harmonies Please do the Dixie Chicken / Tripe faced boogie medley. It will blow your mind. Love your show l, you guys really play some deep closet classics, it's about time somebody on You Tube does
Damn you two reacting to my favorite live album of all time is a treat. From beginning to end this double-live LP from Little Feat is incredible. Honestly La & Che you two would love a complete play of the entire double LP. It's really that good. The Tower of Power horn section plays on this recording as well. Thanks so much for the reaction gentlemen ✌️
Love Little Feat keep them coming. And here is a tip for you. If you want to enhance a road trip experience by at least 200% then have plenty of LF music to play. Great traveling music to drive/ride by.
Little Feat is like The Allman Brothers Band crossed with Steely Dan. They’ve got that Southern rock fire and soul, combined with top studio-level musicianship, funky grooves, and incredible production- especially live on stage! 🎸💥
Thanks! This album accompanied and was kept next to my Grateful Dead collection during those times and was a good crossover-type album for visitors who weren't quite into Dead material.
I just wanted to to let you guys know I was 13 with my buddy Ed 14. The songs from DC on album. The greatest years.I saw Zeppelin,Deep Purple,Chicago area Transit,Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath with my Dad, an USAF officer who thought Chicago was the loudest concert he ever heard. Zeppelin was my first concert of freedom without my dad! By far the best concert in my life. This is one reason I like watching your channel. You guys listen to and appreciate good music.
As long as you have first watched the RU-vid's how to make a coconut shell guitar with palm frond hemp strings. Since your turntable wouldn't work, you'd need to reconstruct the songs from memory. Unless Gilligan let you borrow the Professor.
Guys I really appreciate your tastes in music. You two have a great attitude. I enjoy your reactions because you two give all types of music a fair chance . Enjoy your weekend.
My all time favorite Little Feat song. From the guitar work, the vocals, the lyrics, the keyboards, the drums, but the real star to me is Bassist Kenny Gradney. He KILLS it in so many ways, and if you can't dig that, then you are not living right. Stood about five feet from Mr. Gradney at a show in a small club, after Mr. Lowell George had left the band and passed away. When they played this song, I almost cried. Almost. Great show, and I got to see Feat a bunch more times over the years, always great, always fun, always tip top.
This one is worth a whole album journey. Heavy rotation since being a 13/14 year old spending every weekend in a pool hall in the 90s. Favorite ever since.
Always loved their performance of Dixie Chicken from this album Waiting for Columbus is a fantastic live album if y’all get around to Dixie Chicken make sure to check out the lyrics they are both cleaver and funny and tell a cool story
one of the greatest live albums ever recorded....seen them at the fox theater on the W.O.C. tour one of them shows where everyone is up dancing in the aisles the whole show...Lowell was a treasure.
One of a kind band! NOBODY 'sounds like' Little Feet! All the extra sounds they add make a tastee gumbo. Rock on...🤘 Waiting For Columbus- a Must Have record. Jump starting my Saturday! Diggin' your reaction.
Y'all can't do wrong with Little Feat. This is particularly true for the "Waiting for Columbus" live record. It's a functional live Best Of album. Just a fabulous set of songs.
Gregg Allman's music director & guitarist since 2009 till Gregg's death, Scott Sherrard, now plays with Little Feat as vocalist & guitarist since 2018. Him & Gregg wrote My Only True Friend for Allman's last goodbyd to ABB fans.
I think it's awesome that y'all get this band. Not everyone does. Of course they did have limited exposure compared to other acts in their day, so a lot of people missed out. Stick with this album for awhile. You won't regret it. Check out Sailing Shoes or Dixie Chicken from this album.
Lowell’s good friend Linda Ronstadt does an excellent cover of this on her Living In the USA album. What makes her cover so incredible, besides her voice, is the unique sound of Dan Dougmore’s pedal steel guitar
We smoked a lot of weed listening to LF back in the day. Lowell George was one funky mother f'er. These guys were dynamite live! Only Billy Payne remains and he's playing with The Doobie Brothers. Listen to "Don't Bogart That Joint"
Stay on this live album and do all the songs. They had the Tower Of Power horn section with them here. Rocket In My Pocket is features them. It's awesome !
A little bit of trivia: everyone knows that the song playing on the juke box during the final shot of the Sopranos is Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” but this is the song that plays just before that one.
Thanks for doing any Little Feat! This album sat on my “go too” pile of records for yrs. I’ve always put them in the same category as the Allman Bros. when it came to their live shows, back in the day. Not that they sounded the same, but how noticeable it was for some groups to actually be better live, than in studio. Uncanny really, how Lowell George (RIP) and his bandmates “elevated” an audience. Good times right there. 🤘😎
Singer Robert Palmer's first album in '74, Sneaking Sally through the Alley, was recorded with members of Little Feat and NOLA legends The Meters in the studio. Super Funky. Try the title song.
Great choice, great reaction. Waiting For Columbus is widely considered one of the very best live rock albums*--absolutely fantastic composition, performance and production and, IMO many of the live versions are superior to the studio versions. I highly encourage you to listen to WFC from beginning to end--it is well worth it, and you and your viewers will not be disappointed. All the best, La and Che. *Along with Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East, The Who Live At Leeds, Rolling Stones Get Yer Ya Yas Out, and a couple others... 🙂
@@AirplayBeats ❤ I think that's a wise choice, my friends. For what it's worth, I love the lyrics--I think it's about having faith and healing after having illusions shattered.
A Little Feat song I bet you guys would dig is “Day or Night”. More jazzy than the typical Feat song but damn funky too. Different singers on that song, I think Sam Clayton and someone else. Both the live version and studio version are great - maybe the live version first, which is even more jazzy.
The studio version of this was the song playing on the jukebox in the famous final scene of The Sopranos before Tony Soprano selected Journey - "Don't Stop Believing". Some people speculated that that might have indicated it was a dream sequence. Here's another great live version. It's nice when you can see the performers. The late Richie Hayward on drums is amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S8V1olWt8I0.html
Somewhat adjacent to Feat, but much funkier, are The Meters (from New Orleans). Their album, "Fire On The Bayou" and title song, is a good place to start. Insanely talented, hugely influential.
