One forgets, over time, how Frightfully talented each person was in this band. Bill Payne is, arguably, one of The top keyboard players in rock, Richie Hayward while not only an Incredible drummer provided amazing high harmonies. The addition of Ken Gradney and Sam Clayton gave that FUNK. I Love Paul Barerre and especially Lowell. Thank you to whoever posted this GEM. I agree with Steve Conway: About time someone had a camera crew to capture this era. RIP Lowell and Richie.
Yes indeed what a wonderful group of players. I could not agree more about Bill Payne and Richie Hayward who was my favorite rock drummer who not only had great time but just had a feel that can't be described with words. Of course Lowell deserves every accolade that he has received. Every player was a perfect fit.I hope young players today take the time to listen and understand what Little Feat was about. I was so lucky to have seen then back during the Waiting for Columbus tour and then many times since then after Lowell passed away.Thank god for youtube
My only dispute your comment, is that I'd say Melvin Seals from the Jerry Garcia Band is a better Key player, However only by a slim margin haha. This song is a classic in the best possible way.
I'm a huge TOP fan and discovered Feat through their discography. And I'm glad I did. Their opening lick in this song is absolute napalm! But besides the point, what a deep song, sick groove, and Lowell just laying down gold! What badasses he and Richie Hayward were.
Lowell George has so much style and finesse. Such a talent. He truly had it all, talent, slide guitar wizardry, style, brains and humour. Plus he was definitely handsome.
Maybe 45 years ago when you first heard these guys did you ever think in today's world how far and above talented and great were they really were ? This music is great.
I was at this show; one of the greatest nights of my life. Still sends a shiver down my spine. Lowell was in fact absent for much of the night... But as an earlier poster nailed it "Ritchie Hayward' - this video confirms my view that he was the greatest powerhouse rock drummer of all time.
I wish there was anybody in the Music Industrial that could write lyrics as Great. Having good Music is one thing but the Dunmbass Lyrics ruin it for me :-)
I just can't wrap around seeing Lowell George backed by Tower of Power. WE are not worthy! LOL . If this doesn't make you grunt and grit your teeth, I feel sorry for you. Thanks for the upload.
As blistering as Lowell's playing and vocals are, just listen to Richie's drums. They, along with Lowell, will never be heard again. RIP: Richie and Lowell. Now, they only play for God.
I bought the double record as soon as I heard it on FM radio. probably cost me 10 bucks. outrageous price outrageous music. hooked ever since. RiP the PB,, LG . what a swampy groove. Let it Roll.
ONE OF THE BEST BANDS I EVER SEEN AT THE FOX THEATER IN ATLANTA. THEY WERE ONE OF THE TIGHTEST NICK GROUPS I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. SAW A LOT OF BANDS IN MY DAY AND I'M 73 NOW.
Saw them in Melbourne, Australia, I think in '75. But, fuck, who cares what year, they were the best ever, even better than the Stones around the same time. And the Stones were fucking awesome!!
my man and i love 'em still. and a good friend named his son lowell. on my man's arm at all times is a wristband that says feets dont fail me now. i'd vote for jack.
Sound check at The Handlebar , Greenville SC ,about 2pm, SOLD OUT SHOW 2001 . WE TALKED TO THIS BAND AT OUR TABLES . WE WERE 1ST THERE . INCREDIBLE SHOW !!! WE didn't really care for the Female Vocalist they had then and again at the same location in 2003 ,when they returned . Still a great show and sound . R.I.P. LOWELL,RITCHIE, PAUL . 2023 (today)
what a great treat...many thanks for posting nutbrook and of course thank you to the the Little Feat... May the Peace that Passes All Understanding be with us All
What an ending. Give the song to the rhythm section and let 'em rock out. God, I love it. Just wished Richie Hayward had gone on playing for a couple more minutes. Can't have it all!
Went to college (USC) with Kenny Gradney's brother...we hung out one night at his place in West LA and they jammed in the garage...one of my best memories of college daze....
+Steven Anthony Bill Payne is the KEYBOARD player, surprised you can't spell it, also surprised Bill Payne never made any list of 100 greatest R/R keyboardist. Well he did just fine without any fancy awards! Hope you enjoyed the listening.
Still gives me chills listening to these guys. All great musicians sometimes it is easy to overlook just how great a bassplayer Kenny Gradney is. . . There is a way that he just sticks the notes, leans over them and delivers the whole phrase that is just unbelievable. . Really get a sense of it at the end when it is just the three of them playing. . . . Not an ounce of fat on what he plays every note every phrase just right in the pocket.
Lowell was in Zappa's Mothers as was Billy/Ritchie (I forget - but there're plenty of pictures in Cosmic Debris - the compendium. He could have played with Duane A but I haven't heard it. His Dad was a Furrier to the Stars in LA so he knew anyone he wanted to meet, hang with. I love WHFS Bethesda. On a payphone, I saw a group walking by & one had on an embroidered jean jacket with a Cover. I still wish I'd met that one. Billy had a trio w/Robben Ford & a second Drummer for The Feat (Eric Gage-?) in the 2000s (±2017) he signed a few things for me during intermission and 1 was the Zappa Compendium/ Encyclopedia Cosmic Debris. There're pics of Lowell & the other ones that formed Feat in the '68± era band. Lowell was a real Music Man who wasn't going to eat lunch at Frank's dinner table. We're lucky for FZs 'tude or we'd have no LF, missing persons...
got to hang out backstage with them whenever my dad took me to a show wish i appreciated it more back then. (not around the time of this vid around 2000 or so)
I became a bass player in 1979 for two reasons - to play "Something" and to play "Spanish Moon". This is pretty much identical to the Waiting for Columbus version (not a bad thing at all). I remember the general consensus for that album when it came out - that it represented a band in decline, that LF had lost its edge. Bahahaha!
I can't come up with a better live band ever, than Little Feet with Lowell and Richie, and T o P horns! (Alas, I never heard them, only here and on record.).
