Please before giving a thumbs down, most of these movies are in terrible condition, so don't expect miracles! I use a lot of electricity to enhance them as best as I can. I hope you enjoy what I do. Thank you for watching, you are appreciated greatly!
"Little Lord Fauntleroy" is a 1921 American silent film directed by Alfred E. Green. This film is based on the 1886 novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett and was one of the earliest adaptations of this classic story.
The plot of "Little Lord Fauntleroy" revolves around young Cedric Errol, a kind and loving boy who lives with his mother in impoverished circumstances. He unexpectedly discovers that he is the heir to a British earldom, and as a result, he and his mother are called to England to claim his inheritance. The film explores the themes of love, class, and the goodness of the human spirit as Cedric wins over the hearts of his estranged, grumpy grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt, and the entire household.
Mary Pickford, portrays the role of Cedric Errol. The film was well-received, and Pickford's performance was particularly praised for capturing the innocence and charm of the beloved character. The role of the Earl of Dorincourt was played by Claude Gillingwater, who added depth to the character by portraying the transformation from a stern and cold-hearted man to a loving grandfather.
"Little Lord Fauntleroy" was a commercial and critical success, appealing to audiences with its heartwarming story and strong performances. It was one of the earliest examples of a literary adaptation in the silent film era, and it contributed to the popularity of Frances Hodgson Burnett's work on the big screen.
The film's success was not limited to the United States; it was well-received internationally, and it contributed to the global popularity of the "Little Lord Fauntleroy" character and the novel's themes of goodness and kindness.
Overall, the 1921 adaptation of "Little Lord Fauntleroy" is a significant and heartwarming film that has left a lasting legacy in the history of cinema. It brought the beloved character to life, introduced the story to a new generation of audiences, and remains a cherished classic in the realm of silent film.

Great post, but I don't know why the description wrongly says that Jack Pickford played Ceddie, when the film's intertitles clearly state that Mary Pickford is playing both Ceddie's mom ("Dearest") and Ceddie.

Nicely done, sir. I had never seen this version of "Little Lord Fauntleroy" and was surprised to see Mary Pickford playing the male role (along with a female role). Pickford as a young boy seemed odd to me, but I know that in the early portion of her movie career, she was known for playing roles of much younger people. Makes me think of Mary Martin playing Peter pan.

Peter Pan was traditionally a "trouser" role (played by a female), not only on stage, but in the movies, including the 1924 silent version starring Betty Bronson. Until Jeremy Sumpter broke the gender barrier in 2003 (99 years after the original play's London premiere), the only boys who played Peter were in voice-only performances. Freddie Bartholomew played him first, in a 1936 radio version on *Lux Radio Theatre* (that's the same year Freddie played the title role in the talkie version of *Little Lord Fauntleroy* -- so you see how this all fits together). Unfortunately, no recording of the program survives. And, of course, Bobby Driscoll famously voiced the role in Walt Disney's animated version in 1953 -- though Driscoll also acted out the role in live-action footage that served as a reference for Disney's animators, and the physical appearance of Disney's Peter is clearly based on him. Driscoll even appeared as Peter live on television a couple times in shows promoting other Disney projects.
