If grime is a sub genre of American hip hop why do Americans find it so hard to understand it? Surely that amplifies the fact the two genres are significantly different.
JB92192 trap has been the most popular part of hip hop for the last decade. The most popular rappers of this decade are either heavily influenced by it or directly connected to the sub genre ie Drake or Kendrick. No idea how you came to that conclusion.
Grime is based on being on a stage/set. The whole type of MCing is different to rap. You could say artists was influenced by rap but not the genre itself. It's just as much the beat and the actual way of performing the bars that makes it so different from rap. The content is the only thing you could consider the same, because most MCs give a story of their life in their lyrics.
grime has nothing to do with hip hop grime came from jungle garage even a little dance hall our pioneers have been spitting since 1997 it's not new mcing rapping over beats was not invented in america it was started in Jamaica grime and hip hop are two different things...
Very true, but you can't deny MCs havent been influenced by hiphop, just listen to AJ Traceys new stuff, the instruments sound more like Future then 140bpm
Exactly so saying hip hop and trap has no influence on grime wrong, there's literally MCs making trap songs. It influences even the more grimey songs aj makes
When the pioneers of grime were in their teens 90s American hip hop was a big thing in the UK. Skepta has talked about how he first got into rap when his dad bought Doggystyle, I'm sure many other mcs have similar stories. Yes Americans are definitely wrong that it descends directly from hip hop, but to deny its influences is naive.
Sooooo basically Jamaican derived music that made its own path into different avenues at different times...grime has not come from hip hop they both have same genes but I never knew people making or mc'ing to jungle, that didn't ever listen to hip hop but we knew about ragga, reggae, techno, house/rave culture. People that liked hip hop in the uk did hip hop and didn't do raves...there is the difference.
You ask every UK mc this but you always talk over them & make up your own definition of what grime is. Stop being so arrogant about it FFS. You would think after all the interviews you do would learn, you never let the guests speak... you make it about yourselves. Ebro you ask the same bloody questions ....... it’s like you don’t respect UK artists. Rosenberg or whatever you call him needs to calm down ....you are guest in people company when it comes to culture, be humble when meeting other black people from outside America. I feel sorry for the woman who has to work with them.
im black and I know people have had different experiences but i was born in the UK and i've never encountered racism directly no matter which areas i've gone to. Like even in the really white areas i've been to. And you can say ''it was probably sutble,'' but i don't give a fuck if it's subtle. That's fine, keep those comments private, don't say it to my face and don't get violent with me. I judge people too, we all do.
You are joking right? There's overt and subtle racism and perhaps what you're seeing rarely is the obvious kind, but racism is still very much apparent in our society. People undermine and talk shit about black and asian people all the time
