I first began with the Classic iii, but tried the Cardiologist iii and was VERY IMPRESSED by the vastly better sound! Both quality and volume seem so much better! Ended up giving my little used Classic iii to a student Nurse!

Great video!! I could not for the life of me remove the pedi side, I was afraid to break it! Your video was awesome, thank you for the help!

Showing the rotation to switch from the adult to paeds side and how to convert to the traditional bell was helpful.

Very helpful! Thank you for showing the method to change the pediatric side to traditional bell! Good luck in med school!

I have the Littmann master classic II. I'm a respiratory therapy student and I really don't like two sided chest pieces. It's a great stethoscope though and mine is also the all black edition no chipping of the chest piece or the ear tubes, really high quality and great acoustics.

I have this same stethoscope and it's great at hearing any heart sound, lung, bowel etc.

we received this model (but not black on black) as a gift during our white coat ceremony. I also switched mine from a pediatric diaphragm to the traditional bell. I like having the bell during physical exam and also (on a frivolous note) prefer the classic look of the bell.

Depends what you want to do. Some of my friends bought the master cardio because they knew they were going into cardio. The cardio III is the classic medical school stethoscope and it performs extremely well. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

A lot on online reviewers say med students should just buy Classic II b/c it works really well and, since it does get stolen, it's more affordable to replace...and it is the most commonly purchased. After watching your video, I'm not sure if I should buy Classic II or Cardio III :(

I can say both are great! I love my cardio III more, but my Classic II SE is a great one as well

Yeah, I own both types too. Used a Classic II for many years as an EMT before I started med school and it is a good, reliable scope especially for that application. Before our time it was the go-to scope of the PCP and some of the very old-school attendings at my school still use it. That being said when I upgraded to the WelchAllyn counterpart to the Cards III (the Harvey Elite) the difference was very, very pronounced. There is just so much more detail than before it's amazing. Thus although I haven't gone on clinicals yet from past experience I really would recommend people to spend a little more money on a better instrument, it really is going to make learning heart sounds that much less stressful.

+kotetsu131 weclh allyn harvey elite?. some review said it has lower loudness compared to cardiology III. is it true?

The bell is the smaller side of the stethoscope. It's used to hear lower pitched sounds, like bowel sounds, an S3 gallop, a mitral stenosis murmur, or carotid bruits. I personally prefer having an actual bell and convert mine (as long as I'm not dealing with children, in which case I'd need the peds diaphram), but it's not necessary as the adult diaphram is tunable as the video shows. Just experiment and use whatever you prefer.

Those snap tight earbuds are different sizes and the black are soft seal, the grey are hard to give you the choice as to what you feel most comfortable with.

I purchased the model with the longest length. If gives you more working flexibility on physical exam. However, I don't think it's that big of a deal. You can't go wrong with either model.

Hi, what is the bell? What is it used for. Do most med students convert the peds side to a bell?
@KNPrince
@KNPrince 9 лет назад
Thank you for showing how to convert the pediatric side to the "classic" bell. I was wondering how to do that... I am a first year college student here.. am currently in the Personal Support Worker program but am likely going to "bridge" and continue on to get my Registered Practical Nursing certification. A fellow student and friend of mine got the Cardiology III for her first year of Nursing and swears by it. I debated between this stethoscope and the SE II... in the end I think I made the right choice...

Hi. I have exactly one like yours but in the hospital we only use the big side. What is it you you are listening when you are using the small side?

and yes, before anyone comments, I know it's a tunable diaphragm. I just like having the real bell.

Hey, a friend of mine claimed that his paed diaphragm became loose (moving up and down & produce noise when pressing it with finger) after he removed it then put it back to place. Does it ever happened to your stethoscope too??

The manual actually suggests having the ear pieces pointing forward. The exact opposite of what you said. There is even a picture showing the incorrect and correct way.

He definitely said anterior, which means forward. If he said posterior, then your statement would be correct.
