The largest trait of Samsonova was the determination. She has utterly maintained her coherence in the sho selections without hesitating. It also enabled her to gain a vast advantage against Sabalenka in order to lead the rallies to the other zones. Moreover, the most precise strategy has been formulated by Samsonova in accordance with the composure of the combat and subduing the hits of Sabalenka at the particular points. It was really top-flight appearance from Samsonova!

Refreshing to see beautiful drop shots one after another. Not just brute force. Silent killer. Way to go, Liudmila. Lean and quick and powerful. A joy to watch.

With this current group, Iga will number 1 for like 200 straight weeks. None of these girls have it enough to challenge her week in and week out.

The old Aryna Sabalenka came back in this match. 11 double faults this time, and 3 of them coming in one game in the deciding set was her undoing. Even after all her improvements in her serve, it seems to me that the old serving woes rear its ugly head when she faces someone who can put pressure on her serve, in this case Samsonova--who is a very good returner. As more and more players become aware that Sabalenka's first serve is now a lot slower than before but is only masked by her deafening screams making it seem like she had hit it very hard, her serve will be attacked more and more.

Samsonova is such a hot-and-cold player. Sometime she looks great, other times inept. She sure did well today, though. Big disappointment for Sabalenka. We'll see how she does in Cincy.

Aryna is SO able to be so great, but she refuses to add, not take-away or change what she already has, to her good tennis game. Her and Elena both. They are very good already, unfortunately Iga will likely stay at number one until someone else other that Aryna and Elena step up, likely a new comer, someone young. The way Iga hits her forehands and somewhat her backhands, she MECHANICALLY (which is one thing Aryna and Elena lack) places her shots deep or short according to where the other player is and, places them well, and she uses topspin more when going short so the ball drops faster and the other player can't get to it: it is a GREAT ability, something any of them can learn but they refuse to. I will continue to love and support my two tennis queens, Aryna and Elena, but because they refuse to add to their game Iga will likely remain the empress.

From these highlights, I don't know why but I sense Aryna was just not there mentally today, even though she pushed it to a deciding set. Full credit to Samsonova, who maintains her composure under pressure.

I've never seen Samsonova drop shot and smile more often than this match. I wonder if the drop shot tactic against Sabalenka surprised Samsonova that it worked and so she smiled when it did.

There are 2 things unique to Sabalenka: She screams loudly and is not wearing a cap during the match.

The amount of hate people have for Sabalenka just for the screams is just staggering. The woman clearly works so hard and tries her best, she is also among the best in todays women tennis and yet people chooses the aesthetic part of hating the screams? well if you wanna go in that direction then why not criticize Alcaraz feminine screams? Aryna Sabalenka is a powerhouse and a workhorse so i gotta ask ,has she actually done bad things around her to deserve that kind of hate or is it just normal casual fans thing?

Samsonova definitely capitalize on her emotional breakdown. Both players played well. However, Aryna is playing to be world #1 and not playing it game by game. That is just my opinion. Just play your game the way you did at the Australian open.
