Before I hoop, I find the middle by folding. Then using thin sewing thread I baste a "T" following straight of grain. When I hoop, I use that visual to determine the "straightness " of my fabric in the hoop. No question about it's fit. Takes a little extra time but well worth it.

Thanks for this video. I stitch in hand although I prefer the look of a project stitched in a hoop or other holder. I have been stitching for 40 years and know a lot but what I don't have is the ability to chat with other stitchers and your videos make me feel like a friend is sharing ideas with me. 💕

The small piece she put into an end is for attaching the next tube, but can also be used for extending a square into a rectangle.

Compression gloves help with wrist and hand pain. There are several different brands and types. I stitch in hand and the gloves really help when I stitch for a long time. Sometimes I only use one glove on the hand holding the work.

Thank you for this! I really like seeing you actually stitch. (Like your stitching in hand demo) As an on/off again stitcher, it’s helpful to see how others stitch. Would love to see more like that.

Thank you. This video helped answer some questions that I had. The most important one was how to keep the string from twisting so much. I'm new to this craft and your channel is helping me understand so much

Railroad-ing stitches as the top thread of the x , for certain or both x stitches, helps the thread lay flat... so the "threads don't look messy". I also use beeswax, but most often on the cut ends, for re-threading the needle after separating the twisted threads. I use the (expensive, any brand) "Wonder clips", size small, into the top of the rolled edges of my "extra" fabric which keeps the clips out of the way of my threads while stitching. I also keep the clips in the ends, for storing in my project bag, so the fabric is not folded.

I highly recommend the LoRan sure-grip hoops if you like a hoop that tension never changes! The hoops inner rings snaps into a recess in the outside hoop to keep it so snug that the tension never changes. Ill never go back to standard hoops again.

I love that my needleminder sticks to the Nurge wooden hoop’s closure. Sometimes I just prefer holding the wood hoop instead of plastic.

Qsnaps work well. However, I have arthritis badly in my hands. Nurge hoops work much better for me because they feel better to my hands.

I stitch in hand but use a Qsnap when stitching intricate designs. I don't leave my fabric in the hoop because it will mark the fabric, especially if it is a dark color. Thanks for all these ver informative videos.

For drier beeswax, i found that I can reheat it by placing my beeswax in a small tin and as I stitch I keep the tin under my leg to warm it back up. Then when I go to use it again the wax has softened and I can get a nice coating on my thread. I haven’t tried this with Lori’s brand of beeswax, but this trick works great on products from robotmom. ❤

Thank you for this video. I am going to purchase the 11” Qsnap and grime guard to quilt a wall quilt I started years ago and balked at the quilting. I still love the pattern, fabric and colors. I am retired now and working through my UFO projects. Thanks so much for the tips and ecouragement.

I like stitching in hand when using Aida and I roll it up like Kimberly does. But… if I’m using lugana or linen I prefer the medium pink spring tension hoop. I also have the medium nurge hoop that I’m currently using for North Pole and I like that it is rectangle… less shifting it around like I have to do with the spring tension hoop.

Hi Kimberley, I began cross stitching many years ago and always used hoops, no problem. I recently decided to buy a Morgan hoop, as it was highly recommended. Unfortunately, by the time it arrived here, bought online from US, it was broken. Couldn’t tighten it. So back to my old faithfuls, cheap bamboo types. I did buy the clip lock but had probs putting it together, like you did! Think I’ll stick with my tried ones, that served me well. 🇦🇺❤️

I have really been enjoying your stitchy talks. I’ve just recently started cross stitching but I have no one to ask questions so you have been such a great resource. One thing I’d like to know more about are easy count fabrics. I’ve tried gridding myself but I’ve not had much success. If this is a topic that you’ve done and I’ve missed it would be awesome if you could steer me in the right direction. 5:34

Love stitch talk. As a new cross stitcher I’m having trouble ready a pattern that is more than one page. Could you demo this process.. I love most Lori Holt patterns by Its sew Emma because it’s all on one page. But when I buy other patterns they are multiple pages. I get confused when it comes to joining the 2 or 3 pages to continue the row. Please Help. I’m very much a visual learner so if I could see how it’s done that would be most helpful……..
@FatQuarterShopFlossTube
@FatQuarterShopFlossTube 9 месяцев назад
Hello Donna! Patterns that have more than one page typically have overlap, so you should be able to tape the pages together. If you are using a booklet the duplicate stitches are typically signified within the pattern.

When I stitch in hand and stitch half a row one direction and return to complete the stitch it is very raised. I can feel and see that is it is higher than if I use any other stitch technique. When I stitch in areas where I can’t do that there is a noticeable difference in the height of the rows. Also one thread ends up shorter. Does this happen to you? Any ideas on how to change that?
@FatQuarterShopFlossTube

Hello Sarah! It could be your tension that is distorting the stitches.

When is the best time of year to order beeswax so it won’t melt?
@FatQuarterShopFlossTube

Hello Brenda! You can order it when it's cooler depending on where you are. Unless the beeswax is in a very high temperature you should be fine to order it.
