I've seen a few people asking the question "If Emily blunt's character lost the ability to reset after dying, then how the hell would she know that if she's DEAD?!" That's a good question, so allow me to explain. First of all, who said she has to die to know this? When Tom lost the ability, he said he could "feel it", so that means she could feel it too. Secondly, we don't know exactly how long ago she lost the ability. It could have been weeks ago, months ago, or maybe even years. So basically, she has the ability to reset, gets injured in combat, gets her blood replaced, and "feels" that she has lost it. So obviously, she keeps herself alive knowing that she won't come back again if she dies, but then she meets Tom, who has the same ability she once has, and decides to teach him everything she knows about it before she dies for good, so that's how she can know about her ability being gone without dying. I hoped I cleared this up for some people :P
@Sweetp000433

I wonder how many people and even movie reviewers are even aware that this is based off of an obscure Japanese Manga called "All you need is kill." It sounds like very few are aware because usually when they do reviews they say "based on" or "inspire by" at some point. Hell I didn't even know until I saw a random commenter say so.

This is based off the Japanese story "All you need is kill". The guy who thought of it, was inspired by playing video games. You know how you get a new game and start playing? You're new to the game and have to learn from scratch. And then get stuck on a level and keep restarting the level. You're playing the same level but even when you're failing, you're getting better skilled at it. That's the basic plot. It's unique and that should be the way to describe it rather than just being another "Groundhog Day". Also to those saying it's just a rip-off of "Source Code".... "All you need is Kill" came out in 2004, 7 years before Source Code.

rydendm The manga armor are gigantic suits, all you ever would see would be the actors head. I think they went for this because it does actually look much more realistic. Exo-skeleton is the first realistic step before a complete suited armor.

***** It's a song. It doesn't matter.
@Avian07
@Avian07 10 лет назад
dimenthunter No they weren't. Its a little bulkier but not gigantic. Nonetheless If they stick with the original design of the suit which is a full body cover mechanical suit they would've need CGI to make it work cause there is no way they would've been able to move with it naturally. So they made this suit that is made from shoe strings and styrofoam.

Edge of Tomorrow is a good adaption of the book All You Need is Kill. BUT I wished it had stick to the source material instead of the generic hollywood happy ending which ties up all loose ends. It's like they are too afraid to try a different approach.

The loops are done well and some of them were funny. I understand that some parts from the book doesn't translate well into film (e.g. Mimics' origin, Rita's backstory). But the thing is, we've seen this kind of ending/third act many times in other movies (I won't say which ones to avoid spoilers for the others)

Loved it EXCEPT the ending. The ending freaking stabbed me. They just had to put the hollywood ending in, where the main guy miraculously survives, she survives, everyone is alive, no. HELL NO. I did find one "legit" explanation but still. It seems they did it so we can have a happy ending. The explanation for curious ones: The Omega exists out of "time". Thats why it can rewind time but leave the memories. In the end Tom killed the Omega and Omegas blood seeped into his wounds, giving him a boosted power. This power threw him back in time but it left the change he did (killing Omega). Like I said. Feels like they wanted the happy ending.
@MrRaymacz
@MrRaymacz 9 лет назад
Yeah i feel u, its kinda weird in the ending (I kinda like the ending but does not fit the story.. lol) on how Tom after getting back his ability & going back thru time when everyone was alive. So the assault on alliens never happened because the omega alien boss died. Now My BIGGEST question is... Who killed the OMEGA?

But the movie is still awesome, better than most sci-fi in 5 years. FANTASTIC!

Or maybe when Tom got back thru his ability seeing everyone alive & the assault never happened simply bcoz they already won a part on the war. The omega was also alive but never got the ability in the first place & wasnt able to predict the war. I guess this better explains it lol hahahahah.

Agreed, familiar sci-fi action territory, yet EoT is fantastically original in it's own way. Unfortunately it's not doing well at the box office. I swear summer time is only successful for sequels/reboots/kid's animation/Marvel comic book movies/young adult or teen book series' and Bayformer & Adam Sandler crapfests. If you are a new sci-fi/action IP domestically, you better release in the spring or fall nowadays. Fault In Our Stars is killing EoT at the domestic box office last I checked.

human nature and culture. We think everything revolves around love and shit. Keeps things human for us spectators and makes us relate even more, because maybe we cant fight aliens and relive the same day over and over, but we can fall in love and some other retarded shit like that xD
@RychuAlolan
@RychuAlolan 10 лет назад
Because a romance is the easiest way to get an audience to care about a character and the situation they're in. When a character has something to fight for we root for them more. This is basic storytelling 101, that's why it's so common.

This movie felt like Hotline Miami and Bioshock Infinite with aliens. Hotline Miami's instant restart deaths, Bioshock Infinite's premise, dying over and over again to break the circle, but with an alien invasion. SPOILERS! Even the ending was strangely similar to Infinite's, with Tom Cruise resetting and then getting all the time he wants with the person he has grown to care for, Booker dies and then is reset with Elizabeth again at the end of Infinite.

At the end there was a hidden easter egg of a reference to the original source that I think most people missed. When it shows the PT again at the end with Squad J, the Sergeant keeps asking the Squads "What do you need to do?" and the soldiers would yell out "Kill!" Obviously a nod to "All You Need is Kill," the original source material.

It's kind of ironic that Tom Cruise is the best and worst thing about this movie. People don't want to see this movie because it's Tom Cruise, and he's crazy, and people believe him to be an A-hole (I don't, but other people do) But the guy is a great actor and he really brings it in this movie and elevates to another level. This movie really should be doing better at the box office, but at worst, it'll be known as one of those good movies that very few saw coming.

Original story explaining the reason why the aliens were attacking in the first place, I'll write the whole chapter: "On the next clear night, look up in the direction of the constellation humanity called Cancer. Between the pincers of the right claw of that giant crab in the sky sits a faint star. No matter how hard you stare, you won't see it with the naked eye. It can only be viewed through a telescope with a thirty-meter aperture. Even if you could travel at the speed of light, fast enough to circle the earth seven and a half times in a single second, it would take over forty years to reach that star. Signals from Earth scatter and disperse on their journey across the vast gulf between. On a planet revolving around this star lived life in greater numbers and diversity than that on Earth. Cultures more advanced than ours rose and florished, and creatures with intelligence far surpassing that of _H. sapiens sapiens_ held dominion. For the purpose of this fairy tale, we'll call them "people". One day, a person on this planet invented a device called an ecoforming bomb. The device could be affixed to the tip of a spacecraft. This spacecraft, far simpler than any similar craft burdened with life and the means to support it, could cross the void of space with relative ease. Upon reaching its destination, the ship's payload would detonate, showering nanobots over the planet's surface. [...] The spacecraft ferrying colonists to the new world would arrive after the nanobots had already completed the transformation. [...] The chosen world's parent star could not be at too great a distance, not would a binary or flare star suffice. The planet itself would have to maintain an orbit around a G-class star at a distance sufficient for water to exist in liquid form. The one star system that met these criteria was the star we call the sun. They did not worry for long that this one star might be the only one in this corner of the Milky Way that was home to intelligent life like their own. *No attempt was made to communicate. The planet was over forty years away at the speed of light, wand there was no time to wait eighty years for the chance of a reply.* " Think about that for a moment.
