Just saw the movie and that Church scene was amazing! For some reason it reminded me of John Wick. For once I enjoyed the shaky cam in a movie or should I say action cam here because it follows the core action(perhaps it's a 3D thing) instead of behaving like some camera shaking by the side. It's definitely better than the horrible cinematography used in Taken 3 where the camera would zoomed in into very tight spots during the action scenes(all I remember of the car chase scene are parts of the cars that the camera zoomed into). Shaky cams in movies usually just annoy me but in Taken 3 it nearly made me puke.

My jaw dropped and my eyebrows were touching the top of my forehead for that whole scene, then i cried almost immediately afterwards, not because of it's awesomeness (even though i was very close) but because of that other thing......

DomnoSaur did you watch taken 3, and the highway scene? all shots last half a second, and you barely understand what's going on....that gave me a headache. In this movie the shakycam is properly done. I was tipsy when I watched it, but still could enjoy all fast scenes.

+DomnoSaur One thing I noticed that is common with shaky cam is that it's used in combination with quick-cut editing. That combination is, to me at least, what makes shaky cam such a headache to follow. Here though, there isn't really that much of that combination. While the camera does shake at times, the shot lasts longer than a split second, allowing the viewer to understand what's going on. The camera doesn't shift through 20 different angles in a 5 second time span. To me, that's proof that Mathew Vaughn knows how to use shaky cam correctly.

I read the The Divergent Series books the story line is pretty stupid but the world seems stable. Why can't they pick out good books then develop them directly to movies and/or TV other than first 3 seasons of Game of Thrones.

TheDisasterfreak Because Matthew Vaughn hasn't done a sequel to any of his films. They talked about doing sequels to Layer Cake and Stardust and neither of those happened. He didn't do Kick Ass 2 and he was originally going to do X-Men: Days of Future Past but then dropped out to do this instead.

Joshalots I know this is all a matter of opinion, so please don't respond in hate, but the popularity of First Class, and the hate towards X2 and DOFP (two of the best comic book movies ever made, in my opinion) has always kind of baffled me, aside from the fact that FC is more fun than the other two. I like FC, don't get me wrong, but there are so many flaws that just detract from my enjoyment every time I watch it. The flaws I hear people talk about with X2 and DOFP are always that they're "boring" (which, fair enough, is a general reaction and this is all subjective), and that they're too Wolverine-centric. Let's address that last one... Aside from the fact that you do actually spend time with a lot of other characters as well in X2, Singer has always said that the film was wrapping up a two-movie arc for the character of Wolverine, and that his plan for X3 was to focus more on Cyclops (thus finally giving him his moment in the sun). And when it comes to DOFP, I'm sorry but that complaint is frankly horseshit. That film is Xavier-Mystique-centric if anything. My problems with First Class are plentiful, so I'll name just a few. Its dialogue is easily worse than in the other two films, especially in the second half. For instance, X2 and DOFP never had a line nearly as bad as "Mutant and proud." (and speaking of, it really was not a good idea to repeat that line half a dozen times throughout the film; at least we only suffered one delivery of that toad-lightning line from X1). Some of the supporting performances are just downright bad: that opening scene would have been great if it wasn't for the cringe-inducingly awful kid actor playing the young Magneto, nowhere near as good as the young Magneto in X1 (or the young Xavier and Raven in the next scene). Despite the fact that it's eight years younger than X2, the special effects are nowhere near as good, and in fact are downright atrocious at times (which, by this point, is a Matthew Vaughn trademark, even in Kingsman). Now the big one. Honestly, I would be able to let a lot of these things go...if it wasn't for Matthew Vaughn's bafflingly stupid decision to let Fassbender use his natural Irish accent for only half the production. Meaning that in the would-be tense and emotional third act, I can't stop laughing because Magneto has now transformed into Father Ted. Sorry, I know I've rambled, but I had an urge to speak my mind on this, because again it does baffle me. It's all opinion though, of course. Since you guys say you don't like any Bryan Singer movies, does that mean you don't like The Usual Suspects? Because that film alone steamrolls all of Vaughn's movies combined (again, just my opinion, but this time I'm most definitely not alone in thinking this).

screenfetish Did you not see the fake cabin in the mountains in the beginning? The cgi added houses on his street? The flickering brickwall in the underground elevator? The added bloodsplatter when the badguys got shot? The airplane flying? And the intro letters first of all. All that can be done in after effects with little to no effort. Trust me, they weren´t good. But my biggest problem with the movie wasn´t the effects. Effects depend on the writing and if the writing fails no amount of effects can save it. Here the writing was all over the place.

The movie never sought out to be this big thought provoking spy thriller it was meant to be a fun action flick with interesting characters. Which it delivered on pretty well to me, but hey that's your opinion more power to ya.

CourtCjbLand I know that it wanted to be a fun action flick. But then it should have concentrated on that without forcing "dark moments" like the drowning girl, the abused mother, the bullies, the shooting of the dog etc.) And IF they wanted to drive a point home with whose moments they missed. They started to show his training but always cut away from it to what hapened after and suddently he could fight like a badass without us ever seeing him throw one punch or shoot one shot. That´s just lazy. Remember the movie Wanted (2008)? The fightscenes reminded me of those but stuck out rom the rest of the movie. In Wanted it works because it´s in the style of the movie. It was like it tried to be Spy Kids for teenagers, then suddently lock stock and two smoking barrels, then True Lies, then Austin Powers, then ....It had great potential but tried to succeed with craming far to many elements into it. And interesting characters? There were none. Colin Firth could have been interesting but they didn´t really try hard enough. Don´t get me wrong. I love a cheesy action movie with zero to none thoughprovocting plot as much as the next guy (Speed, The rock, Face off, Armageddon etc) but those movies stayed on course. I also enjoy cheesy action comedies ( True Lies, Get hard, Johnny English ) but they also remain on track. Over the top "badass-action films" such as the transporter movies or expendables and so on can be very entertaining. But they know what the are. I just didn´t think Kingsman could pull it off. And because of the inconsistency, the acting became bad, the dialouge cheesy and the effects cheap and lazy ( the cabin in the mountains)) come on) I wish they would have cut out 4-5 of the sidetracks and concentrated on just 3. Perhaps his abusive homesituation, his training end the end mission. And kept ONE tone of the movie. Make it a dark comedy Or a pastell Disney spycomedy for kids OR a british spythriller OR an generic actionmovie OR....It just didn´t work for me as a mash-up of everything. It can be done. But needs more clever writing. In my opinion. :)
