Interesting tests with the manticore…Not too many users are testing single frequencies on this machine….I notice you have ground “tracking” on your manticore…..does the ground at that site radically change from one area to another? If you’re swinging at a site full of nails or conductive trash targets , “tracking” the ground will highly skew the ground balance setting of your machine, especially if you’re wiggling your coil over a conductive target for a couple of minutes….I saw another manticore video where the ground tracking “slowly” normalizes itself back to a true ground value after standing/swinging over a target (if you can swing over clean ground, but it may never normalize itself if there’s not enough clean ground to swing over)….at sites that are littered with conductive targets, it’s better to keep ground tracking off….do a ground balance (on a clean piece of ground) after turning on your machine, and just do auto ground balances from time to time if you think your soil has changed from one section of your site to another…

Dan, thank you so much for your input. I am well aware of the negative effects of ground tracking, and I have it on for a very specific reason here😊. The head engineer of Minelab actually claims that ground balancing is not good for these machines and it is better to not ground balance at all. Which I was suspicious about, and I am all about actually testing ideas. So I am specifically testing ground balancing, not ground balancing at all, and ground tracking to see how they effect certain scenarios. If you have any specific tests you would like to see done that’s why I make these videos- so please I always appreciate valuable insights like the one you have posted🤗

Very nice video, figuring out if it's likely to be a pull tab is a wonderful thing. After thousands of digs, I discovered that the Equinox Series can do the same thing (as long as it isn't on the surface). I attribute it to how the Multi-IQ mode surrounds the thin low-conductive aluminum pull tabs with a bath of frequencies, making these pesky targets seem so stable. Hitting the same trash with a single low frequency makes the target reveal its true nature. It's all about the eddy currents induced into the hidden metal from the detector's transmissions. Thin low-conductor targets have a problem generating stable eddy currents when it is bombarded with only low frequencies (high-conductive metals react much better). As a result, the detector's receiving circuitry will generally sense a jumpy VDI telling you it is most likely trash. It is a good idea to bounce between Multi-IQ and a single frequency, I would make one of them a user profile so swapping back and forth is a single press of a button. Like when you dug that spark plug/injector object that the Multi-IQ mode showed contained a good target but 5kHz said it was trashy. Targets like those are a "have-to-dig" every time.

I go by the “thin” sound alone. I don’t dig very many pull tabs unless they’re bent. But I do a lot of practice. Every now and then, I throw a nickel and tab down and swing back and forth to try and burn the sound in my head. Also carry samples in the field. If I lose the sound, throw the samples down and go back and forth. I also have an F5. It has a dramatic difference in tone on a thin and mass object. It may mask gold out around some objects though. I’m getting pretty good on the tabs with constant practice. Now I have to work on foil. Fond my last two golds in low foil. Now I’m paranoid not to dig foil. I’m a real old timer. I spend a lot of time testing because I’m not going to do a lot of digging. A little gold and silver is sprinkling in. It’s not much, but considering how little digging I do, it’s a fairly good average. I don’t dig unless the rules of my tested theories tell me I have to dig. I don’t dig tabs and zinc. If it’s at zinc ID and I can hear a hole, thin I dig. Small round solid sound, no dig unless it sounds like a coin spill. A lot of people dig by sound, but do they take the evil sounds home and spend time studying the sounds. It takes actual practice to be sure about a sound, then be sure at speed. Once you’ve mastered an evil sound there’s no point in digging it.

Thank you so much! I’ve never heard it explained that way so that makes a lot of sense! I was utterly furious Minelab didn’t make a shortcut for frequencies!!!😡😡😡. I will try making a profile and see if I can do it that way😅🙏🏼🤦🏻‍♂️

@@ibme4251 I like the way you hunt! I have a lot of hours with the Nox but I can’t say I ever got my ear trained for aluminum! I’m so happy to hear other people are experimenting with different frequencies to determine trash!🤗🙏🏼😊 happy hunting!

Have you watched any of the Manticore series in the playlists that Laurie is creating over at Relics Dirtyhands? In her last addition, she shows how single-frequency will paint the screen differently. How the iron is shoved to the lower left edge of the display like those nails did at 3:50.

Is that a Excalibur shovel by Key Date Kid? I’ve got the hand trowel and small 18” shovel. They are extremely well made! I’ve had the hand trowel from almost day one about 3 years ago. The paint is worn off, but the shovels are just like new.

Yes it is!!! We sell them here at the shop- Casey is an ARTIST!!! Hands down the most insane shovel I’ve ever used. When we unpacked them our jaws dropped, we wanted to mount them on the wall they were so well done! Seriously that guy works his butt off and hand forges those shovels- he deserves an award!!😊

Just hunt in Multi IQ. What a pain switching between frequencies. Get the iron out of the ground if it's falsing. Recheck the hole and you may have turned a masked target into something good. It's happened to me hundreds of times at my iron infested sites. If you want to unmask in iron, 40Khz is good. 5Khz gives more falsing. Multi IQ+ is best.

Hey thank you so much for watching! Actually I discovered the technique of switching between frequencies with the Equinox and I have been able to avoid 99% of bottle caps without using any iron bias (FE or F2), which ultimately sacrifice processing speed and depth. Not only that, but I was able to discriminate out about 60% of the aluminum and maybe 80% nails. I proved this to myself over many years of hunting with that machine and digging everything just to be sure. It was the first machine I was ever able to discriminate aluminum trash with without using any notching whatsoever!🤗. I also began using this method works with the Deus 2, and now I am experimenting with the Manticore. I just want to use all the tools that are at my disposal to help get new ideas that might help others avoid digging trash and expending energy- because let’s face it, nobody likes digging hundreds of nails bottle caps and aluminum and that’s why this machine is the big bucks with all the bells and whistles. If I wanted to dig everything I’d just use our PI machines😊 I really liked your point about frequencies because on my last video another user said the opposite, which is why I was going to 5kHz. He said that would reveal the nails better. These test videos are specifically for the viewers, so I will be trying your technique in 40kHz now to compare. I will say that I always go to 10-15kHz because I have also experienced like you- less falsing and quieter detecting - with the Equinox 800 at least😊. Thank you again for your input and happy hunting!

I was just wondering… I do not my manticore yet, so I cannot play around with things but I wondered could you use your soft keys to put in the 15 Hz instead of having to scroll through the different menus? I imagine if that were possible, you could go back-and-forth with more ease. But maybe I’m crazy like I said, I’m still on the waiting list!

Adele- Very important and excellent question!! I can tell you right now I am absolutely furious because Minelab did not assign Frequency shifting to any soft keys!!!!🤬😡🤬😡. Thank you for watching you are always so kind and sweet🙏🏼❤️
