I'm loving all of your uploaded 160 content. I know 2 reenactors participating in the 160th portraying CSA soldiers. They made the trip from the Toronto, Ontario region. The relic in the sailor's display case is called a sailmaker's palm...as in palm and needle work. Most likely belonged to a Bosun (Boatswain) or Bosun's Mate. Most Able Seamen wouldn't need one as most of their canvas work was on lighter fabric to make and repair clothing. The pointy wooden dowel with the rounded end next to it is called a fid. It's used for separating the strands of rope for splicing. The Bosuns were, and still are to this day, responsible for all the rope and sail work/repairs.

You guys need to stop into Casteel Sculptures on Baltimore Street heading out of GBURG, next to the Cemetery Gatehouse. Gary Casteel, renowned sculptor of the James Longstreet memorial at GBURG, sculps and sells miniature replicas of Civil War monuments in exacting detail. Talk about an original souvenir from GBURG - tough to beat!

Thanks to G.A. for saying the "clump of trees" rather than the redundant "copse of trees" that is so much used at the Gettysburg battlefield and related literature. After all, education is important whether it is history or proper English.

Hi, Garry, I certainly enjoyed the video. Could you address the typical size of the Civil War soldiers? The uniforms you displayed look like Childs clothing. I thought you were going to say that vest was for a soldier's young son, not the soldier himself.

Our reenacting and historical research group has a website, Facebook, RU-vid channel, and Instagram devoted to that USCT regiment (1st La. Engrs.). It was split in two after the Siege of Port Hudson as 1st and 3rd Corps d'Afrique. During the Red River Campaign (3rd) and while in Texas (1st) designated as the 97th and 95th USCTs. The 97th USCT was a VERY important regiment in the Department of the Gulf and would be one of the longest serving USCT regiments of the war. I am currently working on writing a regimental history of that regiment. Our website has several pages about that regiment. You find us by Googling 97th USCT.

I'm surprised a Confederate uniform is allowed within Pennsylvania state borders.. after the reactionary removal of Confederate symbols from seminary' reenactments (and other governor ordered ban on Confederate flags). Pennsylvania's noble experiment in purging Confederate symbols, designed to improve race relations. Are the results in yet? Does PA have better race relations now that reenactors can't fly battle flags? Is society more civil, less prone to crime, etc.. all the issues that are supposedly spawned (in part) by the Confederate flag? Couldn't displaying that Confederate uniform set race relations back again, is it not a more authentic artifact of White supremacy than a reproduction of a battle flag ? Where is the moral consistency of Pennsylvanians..

@@michaelvalentine4867 True, but the confederate statues they are taking down are democrats. Think about it. I meant for people to think. The dems vote 7-2 in the Dred Scott case. They went to war against the Federal Government to support slavery. A dem shot AL after the war. They started JC laws and the KKK to enforce them. They started the Dixiecrats, in 48? It was not a Republican who said, Segregation today, tomorrow and forever or stood on the steps of a college stopping black people from getting and education.
