Thank you again and again. After watching this I applied it to an hour long practice at the PGA Superstore I go to where I can use their practice bays with Foresight GC Hawk overhead launch monitors. The key things for me were keeping the spine straight up at address with weight evenly balanced, getting the left shoulder on a shallower, diagonal plane on the backswing, and keeping the arms and club in front of my chest, moving back together with the chest turn, not moving faster than the chest and getting behind me, and letting that unified turn determine the amount or height of the backswing, not trying to increase it. The result was better contact, better ball speed and extra carry with my 52 degree wedge, 34 degree forged blade 7 iron, and 24 degree 9 wood that has replaced my 5 iron and partly my 4 iron (I have a 21 degree 7 wood that replaced part of my 4 iron and my 3 iron). Another great tip was the rotation that Mike shows at minute 21:32-21:37 and Shaun also demonstrates at minute 21:41-21:48. You can turn standing straight up, then just tilt forward. I did that before every shot and it made a huge difference. So thank you, thank you.

I’ve just finished watching this video for the first time(not the last) and I think I’ve learned more from this than from all the lessons I’ve had,you explain in detail how the movements affect your golf swing,it’s took me about 90 minutes to watch as I have been pausing and going in the garage to try the moves and get the feeling,I already am a subscriber but this is the one that gives me the lightbulb moment,turning the hips and shoulders are massively important.Very much appreciated from the UK👍👍👍

This is a phenomenal lesson and I hope other golf professionals and instructors like myself can see how to adapt this into their own lesson planning. Even those without Gears or similar software there’s some absolute gold in here. The Pac-Man analogy is phenomenal and appeals to such a broad range of players and skill levels it cannot be understated.

I especially love you you solved what he thought was a downswing problem, with a turn and pivot fix. What his “falling backwards” feel when he’s it good, is actually him with less tilt and closer to the proper turn and pivot you had him make.

For years I've been doing what you describe here - backswing head dips down, which leads to more squat that address, now here come the hands inside and the battle is on, unfortunately those dots don't taste good at all! I did figure out the hands come inside probably b/c of what you call the heave, but fixing it has been trial and error failure. Your point about the shoulders staying level with the spine angle was the light bulb, one of those obvious things right there in front of you that you can't see until somebody points it out. I'm an AMG member but every once in awhile you guys will put something up here on the 'Tube that just hits me right in face. Thanks guys I needed that!
@MichaelWilliams-qw8yd
@MichaelWilliams-qw8yd 2 года назад
Took it to the range yesterday, it seems to put that lead shoulder in a much better position for transition and the club shallows out much more naturally. WhichI think also explains why a manufactured shallowing for me tends to result in more heel strikes with the occasional S-word strike (sometimes accompanied with other words that shouldn't be offered in public).

I love these live lesson videos! Master class in instruction. The question I have is regarding left side bend and shoulder tilt. You pointed out that Jason had too much left side bend in his backswing, causing his left shoulder to tilt too much downward. However, is not left side bend and tilt desired in the backswing? What is the optimum amount of left side bend and tilt?
@AthleticMotionGolf
@AthleticMotionGolf 2 года назад
Your shoulder line pointing roughly 4-5' beyond the ball is a good angle to look for. We see lots of golfers trying to get it at the ball or as close to it as they physically can ☠️
@iafb2010
@iafb2010 2 года назад
Their response is not accurate. For high handicap, sure 4-5’ is acceptable - but that’s because most have a flat shoulder tilt. You won’t see many pros that flat, certainly not any of the best to ever play. ‘Feel’ like your lead shoulder aims at the ball. It will end up being closer to 2-3’ outside the ball.

Great video, really appreciate the full insight. I’ve been doing this for years and struggled with flipping hands, push rights and snap hooks left. Can you talk a little more about keeping width on the way down, as I feel I use my right bicep to initiate my down swing for power. It works well on the range but I struggle on the course. Any advice would be welcomed

@pjpredhomme7699
@pjpredhomme7699 Год назад
these guys are great - they are using technology to work on objective provable facts rather than the old tropes - that makes a huge difference - it takes away so much guess work that the rest of us grew up with - so you are correct that it is a great foundation to learn - but it is foolish to place a timeline on anything - no matter if you have a better mouse trap or not - golf is hard - there are so many different things happening and effecting a players development - I see a lot of people - with these stated objectives to become a "scratch " player in a year or something like that - its great to want to learn and enjoy - but believe me when I tell you - you are setting yourself up for a world of hurt by those types of expectations . Babe Ruth called his shot - I'd leave that up to him

Do you like the lead heel to stay on the ground at the top of the backswing? Or does it not matter as long as you stay down and not stand up.
@AthleticMotionGolf
@AthleticMotionGolf 2 года назад
The lead heel should lighten in your he backswing. For some it will lift a bit, and for others it will be more subtle. The key being it lightens👍
@alecrosekrans
@alecrosekrans 9 месяцев назад
Great video. I;ll add my own experience which is that the lead shoulder working down early in the backswing will often result in a a loss of posture later in the backswing which actually then gives the appearance of not *enough* side bend.

Big fan! I'm curious and trying to figure out how to blend the tips in this video with the concepts in a video you released about one year ago that was called "How to move the upper body for more consistent golf swings". In that video you reference the rib cage needing to turn at a certain tilt, and the danger of turning flat. So is it just a blending of rib cage tilt towards the ball but the left shoulder rotates for level to turn around the spine? This seems to keep coming up and plaguing my swing. Thanks for all the knowledge y'all put out!!

How perfect, exactly what I’ve been working on lately! Here’s a question, I know average tour players have I think 90 degrees on the shoulder turn and 45 at the hips, if I’m going 45 at the hips and 100+ on the shoulders according to when I was measured, is that an issue even if I’m still pivoting correctly? Just something I’ve been wondering.

Another great video. Just a question about the shoulder angle at the top of the backswing: From this video it seems the recommendation is not to point the shoulder line towards the target line but outside the target line, more flat? This is contrary to other videos Ive seen. Are there any factors that will influence if the feel should be more flat vs more target line? Example if someone is too flat to feel a little more side bent at the top of the backswing?

I think you mentioned a quarter of a second for the downswing is there an appropriate timing you like to see for the swing (from take away to impact). My pro says the average professional take .9 to 1.1 seconds. I tried to look back thru you videos but couldn’t find this. Very good lesson.

At about the 25 minute mark, you draw a vertical line and measure how far away his left shoulder moved away by shaft parallel. It is not clear just what adjustments you made to get him to the better position seen at the 26 minute mark. How does he accomplish the improvement? Found you guys on RU-vid just the other day and love your stuff! It seems that you guys don't every comment much on the position of the ball in many of these Pro vs Am videos (like this live lesson) - clearly the pro has the ball more forward. I think I have seen in the past that average pro has the iron about 3" inside the left heel. Most of the am's in these videos are clearly farther back (in some cases in the middle of a normal width stance). This seems to actually result in that "too much shaft lean" Shaun refers to, that if they had the ball in the Pro spot, would decrease, but still be adequate.

AWESOME FEEDBACK GUY'S Love your Video's, especially these type, they provide excellent "Athletic Motion" examples the way they should be for EASIER power and accuracy in the golf swing. I have been injuring myself the last few weeks simply by not turning my shoulders correctly and trying to remember/regain my old swing after not playing for over 10-15 years. This video has helped me reincorporate my old swing dynamics with some added important details for proper rotation, which I'm certain will add more power, less effort, more accuracy and more distance - Ive lost over 25 YRD's over the years - lol - but have regained 15 yrd's per club in just the last couple days using the feedback you have provided here.
