LIVE REACTION to Tower of God: Chapter 618 (S3 Ep. 201) 

What a chapter. Just what a chapter. SIU was in the kitchen cooking up something unbelievable with this one, and that just made the cliffhanger even more brutal. I have so many thoughts on this chapter, and I'm still finding more even though I've had this chapter for months at this point. I apologize for the word salad below, but this is the best I could organize my thoughts. As I said last week, the focus really is on the group dynamics between the soon-to-be family heads on this one. Of the splinter groups, the Traumerei one was very fascinating. A large number of his male companions all came to see him, and tried to raise his spirits in their own unique way. Gustang was the first to show up, and broke down the door because he wasn't going to leave his friend alone with that. I particularly like how Eduan entered the room, mocking Traumerei, but you can tell that he really did care about how Traumerei was taking it because he was there. But the one thing I noted is the quality of their advice. In their attempts to cheer Traumerei up, they never got to discussing with any real import the "Why" of why Ameuz was leaving, and this lead to Traumerei doubling down on the exact changes that cause Ameuz to make this decision. I wonder how Traumerei might have turned out had they had a real, open conversation, if maybe he wouldn't have become the monster we know he will grow into. Conversely, we see a real heart-to-heart between Leerang and Ameuz, where we establish that Ameuz really does still love Traumerei, as Leerang notes when Ameuz talks about him. (Tangent, but that section of flashback was a serious mistranslation. It should have been "when I first joined the party" or something similar) But we do see what appears to me a real heart-to-heart/open conversation between the two women that is distinctly lacking among the gathering of their male peers. I especially like Ameuz's comment about being unable to stand watching him (Traumerei) change; that moment is just so potent. From this, I really feel that Ameuz and Leerang are more mentally mature/healthy than their counterparts like Gustang, Traumerei, and Eduan. I almost get the feeling that the family heads are a lot like child actors and stars. They've been showered in fame and power from the moment they began climbing the Tower, but they are unaccustomed to difficulty or failure, which can cause them to crack/break under the stress of it. Something happened to make them stop climbing, which also seems turned much of the Tower against them, so they chose to erase those memories and shun those who broke with them over it. Ameuz made her announcement which SIU said would herald another rift, and they can't have an honest conversation about what she said. Their handling of crises really lacks the emotional maturity you would expect from those who likely took hundreds of years to climb to that point. I really have to look as well at who is not here physically, but whose presence/influence hangs heavy over all of this. Jahad put forward a lot of this in erasing the memories of that day, of drawing lines between themselves and non-teammates, and between themselves and those that disagree with their decision. I never really agreed with the theory of "maybe Jahad is the good guy," and this toxic miasma hanging over the group really makes me feel otherwise.

I find it interesting how SIU separated the group. Eduan and Gustang both went to "comfort" Traumerei, and when asked about Ameuz, Gustang said that they would cut off all contact with her. Meanwhile, Yirang stays in the empty ballroom to talk to Ameuz alone, and instead of fighting her on anything she says (except for her choice in men lol) she calmly sits and listens. And then there's Hon, who's just sorta wandering the place, though whether that's because he feels unwelcome with the others or because he was on the look out for infiltrators is unknown (or maybe he just wanted some appetizers) Gustang and Eduan hanging out with Traum, and their talk about their lost memories and Jahad are especially interesting. Gustang is fighting against Jahad now and we know that Data Eduan opposed Data Jahad when he felt he changed too much, however during this moment, they're both sorta treating the situation as a natural thing. I'm guessing whatever happened to cause the loss of memories was especially traumatic for them, in a way that it wasn't for those who joined their climb later. Finally, Luslec is very interesting, especially his appearance. I'm just gonna go on a limb and say that the difference is due to the curse Jahad put on the native species in the tower. Perhaps Arlene did some spell thingy that transferred some of her power to him so that he wouldn't suffer the effects as badly? That would explain why one of his eye's turned golden

This back story is doing wonders for the characterization of the family heads. It has a slice of life vibe to it. Also, it seems we are getting an idea of the current affiliations that the FH’s have in present day. Some are closer to each other than others.

What was Amizu's plan if Hon just heard her announcement and was like: "Okay. *grips sword with malicious intent*"?

Was the mysteriously highlighted guy at the party Luslec who later wanted to flee the scene? Also I like how this story reads like an ancient greek mythos where not everything makes sense but still fits and drastic measures are taken all the time.

I feel bad for missing this stream. Also even if I'm not around I'm ready to change profile to the hottest newest Luslec panel >:). Btw nice font, already A-tier. Edit: My boy Mirchea keeps getting the hardest match ups, Arie Hon, Urek Mazino, what's next Phantaminum?

To be fair to Amizu, this was not just an announcement to Traumerei, it was to all her friends. You could argue it's cruel to do it in front of such a crowd, but I think it would be equally cruel to those other friends if she couldn't even be bothered to say it in person to them.

Luslec might be able to hold his own against Hon. He also won against Urek. Not as in he way stronger, but he did achieve his goal of stopping him. Could be similar here. His spells make him super unpredictable so I could see him slip away with Amizu. But then again Traumerei probably won't let that happen and no way cam Luslec hold his own against multiple heads.

What if Amizu dumped Traumerai in public for her own safety? She knows he likes possessing beings. She even mentioned the possibility of Traumerai ruining Enkidu’s life. Maybe that’s why she had to do it in public so he wouldn’t force her to stay.

Remember Joe, V and Arlene are the closest with the towerborns.

I dunno, I think I get Ameuz/Amizu doing her announcement over the mic. I get the feeling that she sees the whole gang who climbed the Tower as an... unit. They ALL are her friends, they a not only a bunch of individuals, but a friend GROUP. So it makes a lot of sense in my eyes for her to want to say goodbye to all of them, and to as many of them at the same time as possible. Yes, it is shitty for Träumerei, but... I try to imagine any other way to sort this out and I cannot. If she'd dump him beforehand, it would most probably mean he blows the party off and starts sulking immediately, and wouldn't even have his friends to take care of him, or if she'd do it at the party in private it would just be a huge scene. Was it selfish? For some part, yes, but it's not like anyone present is a particularly selfless person. (And it's also my interpretation that the part where she actually dumped-dumped him after the big announcement wasn't daid in the mic. Träumerei was standing right behind her and the way she talked looks to me like the words are meant to be said softly and sadly. But that's only interpretation)

Interesting that in the fight with Urek, Luslec has the pink eye on the side of his face that looks dead. Almost looks like it's 2 people fused. Like someone named Grace absorbed him. Who else is named Grace and likes absorbing things?

I don't know if it is the same thing, but the scar thing with Luslec is similar to Evankhell's, maybe is a spell or a curse?

Traumuri is just a seriously loyal freind that had to watch the one thing he cherrrished eat itsself and become something unredeemable. i feel for him. given a different couple of events and he would be such a great steadfast character of faith, belief, and freindship....
