It gets WAY worse as the trial progresses and he’s going to deserve everything coming to him. I don’t say this often but they should have just recommended the DP and he would not be missed in society. He will forever be a criminal because he believes law and order doesn’t apply to him.
He thinks he’s making a point by saying “how do you know it was “you” or whoever “you is”. Just because someone didn’t know your name was “Darrell Brooks” at the time they saw YOU, doesn’t mean they cannot identify YOU. I bet some of the jurors just want to scream.
Yes... of all the things, this is what gets to me. And yes I did yell at the video 'Because They Saw You and They are Looking at you Right Now!' 'We can all see you!'
The Good Samaritan neighbor: the first thing I noticed was how visibly shaken he was when he told about talking to his neighbors and finding out what had happened. Both times. The second thing I noticed was that he appeared to feel that his Hospitality had been seriously abused. Righteous indignation. The third thing I noticed was that he was really disturbed about being associated with DB and accused of being in cahoots with him... I felt like the main reason he released the video was to exonerate himself, and put the focus on where it should be. Also he donated a certain amount of the money to the victim fund.
I expected nothing less from him. He has ZERO remorse. He is pissed he got caught so quickly. He is completely sane and is also pissed the four drs didn’t find him insane and wants to punish others for that.
Please. He absolutely saw a plea deal. If you believe he didn’t actually see or wasn’t told about plea deal that’s insane. He lies about everything. He saw the plea and denied it.
He actually asked what time court was going to end today. He sounds like he is having drinks and dinner with his witnesses. That man is a special kind of stupid. He won’t give the prosecution a list so they can actually HELP HIM. He is nothing but a monster.
@@MikeDQB Agreed. They just want to "help" him so it's one less potential appellate issue. Not that I think this case has a snowballs chance in hell of making it there.
I don't see how he actually has any witnesses that will help his case lol. And the fact he is fighting giving the prosecutors his list of his witnesses in order is just another delay tactic he is dragging out the inevitable.
The judge will tell him something, and he says, "PROVE IT!" Then she proves it and he's like, "Naw, that don't count." What a twat. I can't imagine how anyone deals with him. He's gaslights constantly and talks in circles. It would be maddening to spend one whole day with him.
I think that the guy who saved that voice message was smart in doing so! Who knows what could come down the pike later in a case like this? Darrell could have tried to implicate him or something. And we all know how frustrating it is when video/audio gets lost in criminal investigations. To answer your question: no way in hell I’d let a stranger into my home unless it was a woman and my gut instinct told me she really needed help and wasn’t dangerous. I wish it wasn’t dangerous to extend kindness to strangers… but it just is. Maybe if I were a man I’d feel differently…
Same! The little criticisms are probably correct, but Peter you try sitting in the courtroom with him all day listening to his crap having to be friendly and patient
Right! But Remember she has a reward at the end!!! *He will be convicted,* & to make sure there’s no appeal due to his “rights” being violated! He does not deserve rights, so he took the child’s right that God gave him to live & breath!
He was offered 2 different plea agreements...he refused to hear it from his public defenders. He was provided copies of their latest plea agreement in writing that he refused to read. This witness list issue should be fun.
Yep. He could've tried to argue his reasons. Was he really just evil and plowed through or was he on something or what was happening. Was there any mitigating circumstance. But he doesn't try to argue that he's too busy with subject matter jurisdiction and saying only living breathing human beings can file a complaint
I imagine every time she takes a break she's going to the bathroom in her Chambers and just yells into a mirror or a pillow or smth. Just getting it out of her system 😉
Does he go back to his cell every afternoon and think I did something today? I killed it in court today. I mean like does he really think he's doing well and helping himself? I'm just confused why he keeps acting this way? Surely he can see it isn't helping him.
He's definitely not stupid but he's extremely ignorant in many ways and he's certainly not as smart as he thinks he is.. I think for the most part he's just a very very skilled manipulator and much of his 'smarts' is just a mechanism he's developed in his endless attempts at manipulating everyone around him.
I would not let a stranger that looked like him into my house or to use my phone. He looked completely unhinged. I think the fact that they’re letting this P.O.S. make a mockery of the victims and their memory by the blatant circus he’s performing in the court room and blatantly disrespecting the judge, jury and the entire court system. Is there no way to deny him the right to pull this bs?
When he continues to ask about this jurisdiction riff, she held her breath and closed her eyes as the jury walked in. I bet she went to her happy place!
Despite hating him with every ounce of my existence, I LOVE when DB opens his jacket and says “Do I look 5’9”?” He was so frazzled he wasn’t even making sense
6 consecutive life sentences is quite a good deal for destroying 50+ people's lives (not to mention extended family, friends, etc...). This guy deserves to have all sentences running consecutively without parole.
at 38:40 The question about handing your cellphone or opening up homes to a stranger. The guy did the most Midwestern thing: Warm them up then feed them (seriously food is non-negotiable). Wisconsinites never really give it a second thought. We often go a little over board with generosity and hospitality to those in need, and with how bad winter gets here helping complete strangers no questions asked is just second nature. If it was any other day or any other person I can say 100% that guy would have not have asked for his coat back. It wasnt until the situation seemed off with the sirens that the home owner started putting up his defenses in his mind. As for the home owner I saw nothing wrong selling HIS footage. Not a lot happens here in WI and Waukesha only has 73k pop so that kinda big news in quiet town. He'll get his time in the limelight then itll just shrink down to a "remember when" then turns into a small fun fact down at the bar years later about the guy.
I can’t get over how he brings up tacit agreement & says “tacket agreement”. She’s already corrected him on the pronunciation of so many basic words I can’t believe he thought he was smart enough to handle trial alone.
*17:35* This was one of my favorite days of the trial because these witnesses got him so worked up (like this witness) that Darrell Brooks forgot he "wasn't" Darrell Brooks. Darrell challenging, "Does it look like I'm five foot nine??" 😂😂 I just finished watching every hour of the trial, and I have never felt so satisfied at watching a sentence (76 in his case) handed to someone. Judge Dorow, the prosecution team, the witnesses, and jury were all phenomenal! I've never seen anything like this in all the years I've studied true crime.
I believe the ID says only for ID, so he should not have been driving , right. *I just watched the ending of this video. How did this attorney miss the big red letters that clearly said 'this is not a drivers license'🤦♀️
I truly love this witness, staring him directly in the eyes and seeing you. So you lost weight under a years worth of stress Brooks and you got taller cause your head on a pair of shoes with heels. We truly get the picture in this man’s not backing down and you can crawl back under a rock.
Of all the RU-vid chanels I watch, The laywer you know, is by far my most favourite and the BEST channel on YT. It is to the point, factual, educational and entertainig all in one. Thanks Peter and team.
The "jurisdiction" argument. They always cite a case where they can challenge it. But that is whether it is FEDERAL or STATE/LOCAL. They misinterpret this as "over me, as I have opted out."
The judge did not tell Brooks he had to give an exact order of witnesses. She told him to group them by First Day, morning; First Day, afternoon; Second Day, morning; Second Day, afternoon, etc. That was only reasonable, both for the witness' sake, plus the fact that the state has to be the ones contacting them. Most people who have jobs and families can't sit at a courthouse for days on end, and that's absolutely inconsiderate of any lawyer to expect that of them. But Brooks even refused to do that (give in groups) until the judge said the DA said she "wouldn't have to call them" if he didnt.
Yeah, he’s a real a-hole. When he stayed at his mom’s he had a blowup mattress that cut off the main pathway through the house. He doesn’t care. About anything or anyone except himself. He’s been getting away with it his whole life. I can’t see him changing now for witnesses who he doesn’t know, hasn’t spoken to and has no idea what he’s going to ask them! 😊
If he was forced to call them himself? He would of just told them to come on the same day, IMO. Cause remember? She clearly told him, it wouldn’t be fair to have them come on the same day!😂😂😂😂
It didn’t matter what he called himself the judge allowed him to keep saying over and over again that he didnt to consent to his name. Surely by now the USA are discussing this case at length in the judicial system to stop these circuses happening again and again and again.
The plea was exactly as I thought they should offer. We charge you for the murders 6 consecutive life sentences, but hey we drop the other charges. 😂.we drop the reckless endangerment for the non injured people. How tempting. At least we learned that he is a murderer but not a thief. Gotta say what Natalie had guessed about his reaction to the judge being nice to him has been proven. He was so touched that that one guy was so kind. Letting him in giving him a sandwich and a jacket. I felt bad for him. Than I remembered. He's got an ex gf who kept coming back to him. She must have been nice to him. He called mamma who was worried about him He had people who were nice to him
You forgot the part where he threw them under the bus at every opportunity. Look how he treated the sandwich guy on the stand. brooks is evil, he just is.
His objection to the use of the name Brooks is that in the court filings it is written BROOKS. His argument is based, essentially, on winning an internet argument.
His mother said that he didn't even know what he did. He's not medicated for his "illness" They DID subpoena his mother but withdrew that. But his mother who he's obviously speaking to is telling him that he's coming across as bad. So after the first week, he stopped his shenanigans and put on a suit. He's now gained a Bible too. It's all an act, but I'd suggest he's possibly got some sort of aspergers syndrome judging by him not having any feelings about what happened. No empathy. Just fake tears and a Bible with a Harry Potter book in the middle of it. It's embarrassing how he goes from gang banger to Bible boy. I don't think so. And I cannot wait for sentencing and moreover, the judge's final remarks which he CANNOT interrupt! She will unload on him for wasting time. For sovcidiot arguments. A frivolous waste of time. I hope she absolutely destroys him. Guess who's going to be dragged away screaming at the court, off to do 7 life sentences. *DARRELL BROOKS!*
In reply to would you let this person into your house- this is Wisconsin. We are pretty small town. Waukesha is a city but small town mentality. We generally trust. Probably a flaw in this age. But hey, we love people and try to give folks benefit of the doubt and help when we can. I can’t fault those witnesses.
"Where's the ICF" conversation, was driving me nuts. He's really trying his best to break this judge. He wants her to slip up, badly. He thinks he can get a mistrial somehow
The poor judge, I would’ve cracked day one. I have a hard time holding my tongue as it is as a mere watcher during a stream, no way I’d be able to hold myself together in court near him. I shoot off at the lips a little too much - why I’m not a judge and was never selected to be a juror lol. My only ONLY only gripe with the judge is how easily she gives in to explaining terms to him. He doesn’t listen. He just automatically thinks it’s an excuse to act as if everyone in that courtroom is out to get him and make everything unfair. Like when she was explaining cross and leading questions … just went in one ear and out the other. He still continued to get upset over it even after it was explained, so I find myself “shewwwwww’ing” a lot when she starts to hold his hand through it. Waste of time - time they’re already behind on because of him.
@@TwoBs it's abysmal, I concur. I live in Waukesha County, and my good friends wife was injured by the "Alegged Defendant". I'm glad this judge has better patience than me.
'Your ignorance of the law is not a defence' He's not even pretending to know what he's asking with all these objections He hasn't said 'enty' in a while
That's what I don't understand. If there's no parole, one life sentence is all anyone can give. That's why I think the court is almost being mocked because the most they can impose isn't enough for monsters like this.
Would love to see a hardass judge watch and comment on this case. I know this judge is a total badass, and she is patient beyond measure. What would have happened if this was some old guy judge who had zero compassion and a power trip? She has compassion because clearly she wants him to have a fair trial. Period. Curious...
He's such a bad liar. First of all, of course his prior counsel informed him of the plea offer. They're required to go to him with any offer, and they did not deviate from that ethical obligation somehow to intentionally avoid notifying him of a plea offer extended. No appellate court or bar association would ever believe him that they didn't tell him, especially when he has ripped up court orders and other documents on camera and then lied repeatedly about not ever recieving the documents. He's thrown away documents and then lied and said he never recieved them. He's refused to accept documents served upon him while in his cell and then lied about recieving them. If he said prior counsel never brought a plea offer to him and they said they did, it would be over and no one would believe him. He's shown himself to be an absolute shameless and degenerate liar over and over throughout the trial, and his word would hold zero credibility with any higher court. My guess is that prior counsel, knowing what an absolute a** and complete reprobate he is, saw those types of issues coming from a mile away and made notes as to when, exectly, they notified him of the plea offer. Contemporaneous records from an attorney would be all any bar association or higher court would need.
The constant comments under his breath are getting tiresome and frankly very irritating that and the whole constant name objection. I cam imagine the jury is just as irritated
How many sovereign citizen cases like this would it take to completely stall the courts and render them dysfunctional? Canada understood this and enacted a law severely limiting these tactics in 2012 (Meads v Meads).
We have too many homeless people here in ca that aren’t taking their meds for their issues and are unstable in the neighborhood so I would not let a stranger in sadly Lots of robberies these days I wish there was more support for the homeless as well as those w mental health issues
Just watched mothers interview. She was subpoened but it has been withdrawn. My guess is because mom thinks he was out of his mind and didn't know what he was doing and says he doesn't remember. She also thinks he should get help instead of being sent to prison.
Started watching you during the Depp/ Heard case and have been watching ever since. I love that you take an unbiased approach to these trials while giving your opinion in an appropriate manner.
I think people should have to accept the "laws of the land" for the base of any argument prior to representing themselves just like witnesses swear to tell the truth. That would/should solve this circus, right? I am German citizen but when I am im the US, I need to obey and accept the laws in the US and can't argue I am a German citizen and therefor I can't claim rules not applying to me!
Why are we allowing this criminal to waste the courts time? HE IS NOT A CRIMINAL DEFENSE LAWYER???! GET HIM A LAWYER AND GET THIS OVER AND DONE WITH!! This is cruel to the families!! It's like our laws spit in our faces!! 😡😡😠🤬
Dim like dumb? He's not. I watched the whole trial. He finds any inconsistency right away he uses the sovereign shit bc he couldn't find a different defense. He's not a genius but he's not dumb
@@stephjovi I did too. I can think for myself and I think the guy is very very DIM!!! sure he has, again a DIM and narrow understanding of the law. Trying to get a mistrial with shenanigans doesn't take intelligence. I strongly disagree with you and stand by my observation! I think it's sad anyone thinks this guy might be even a little bit smart. It says a lot about the standard...🤨 Insanity would have been a much better plee. Sovereign citizen, I don't recognize my birth name kind of smart. Are you f**king kidding me?
Building the case: Perfect timing! I just went back and watched the District Attorney's opening statements... I had miss it and watching helped me understand where they were going. And of course your commentary helps me even more.
I saw an interview with Brookes’ mom without showing her face. She does not stand by him or support him and talked about what he’d be like in court. She’s spot on. I feel bad for her, honestly.
I don't. She raised him, she knows that he is a career criminal, she knew he was violent, she knew that he beats up women. He even ran over someone with his moms car before, that was why he was in jail. At least until momma bailed him out. This is not the first time he tried to kill someone with a car. She knew everything about him when she bailed him out of jail. Everything.
And please stop giving him credit for the public defender's notes that he's reading off. He didn't do any of that. He's simply reading off their notes. You can tell when he runs out of their questions. Don't give him credit. He doesn't deserve it, and "he doesn't consent to being called that name!" 🤣🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
His attitude gets worse by the day, he's taking the piss out of everyone, it's a shame that there's no death penalty in that state, i hope someone in prison has seen this trial
Once again thank you. I simply CAN NOT waste another day watching this insanity. Made me literally sick last week and I'm just recovering. So hard to look away though. THIS commentary and summary is the ONLY sane way to watch.
It’s been hit after hit against Brooks, but Mr. Rider was just icing on the cake. Time to get this case moving. He’s done for, lets just be done. YOU, Brooks, YOU are done for.
I saw an interview on Fox6 News with Mary Stoker Smith who spoke with Darrell Brook's mother, Dawn Woods. She wore a mask throughout the interview, but she seems like a loving and caring mother and person. Brooks is not a stupid man. He has made some good arguments in this case but arguing with the judge after she repeatedly asks him to stop and then she cites 90611, he continues to taunt her. Of course, he's got a plan but the lack of respect to her and everyone else concerned for that matter is disgraceful.
