Today we're talking about our all-digital live setup, including Sontronics Solo and sE V7 microphones, Shure In Ear Monitors and how we use amp modelling to get our sound out properly in compromised situations.
In the Wedding Band "The Gobots", our live sound mission is to get a great party going! The crowd don't particularly care whether we're using a subwoofer, or a Le Bass pedal - they care if we sound good and aren't making eardrums bleed.

I went to a concert the other night and I noticed there were no amps. You answered all my questions, thank you.

Super video, I loved the idea of the compressor and gate on the microphones. I’ve never thought of that for live use. I can’t afford in-ears yet, but is the gate effective/problematic if you use monitor wedges? You’ve earned a subscriber here! Keep up the great videos. Loving iPad Pro stuff you’ve done, and would love some small band/live p.a. Content/tips Great job. Don’t worry about high quality camera content, the quality of your information is great. I have a RME babyface, and am wondering if I could use it with a laptop for live mixing with low latency?

Thanks mike! Sorry for the late reply - gates definitely help with wedges, but the only onboard 31-band EQ per wedge output is far more valuable imo in getting rid of ringing frequencies before a show starts. The gates are then insurance rather than the main tool, because as soon as you make noise the gates open, and if it was going to feed back it starts as soon as you speak!

We started rehearsing with a laptop with reaper and amplitube cs and it's best sound we've ever had! Ampless is the future :D

Awesome! Good luck with it, that’s what I say. Although, word to the wise - have some kind of backup if you can (also applies to guys with amps) - maybe like a cheap preamp pedal or something, in case of gremlins

Hop Pole Studios aye will need to sort something for that, luckily where we play has some amp's in case. Where did you get that USB 9v battery? AliExpress or something? Looks like a great invention!

Can’t remember, it was probably eBay. Be warned though, they emit a high pitched whine in a lot of electronics- I had to take one out of my active bass!

I enjoyed your video on the new technology with the in-ear monitors instead of the very heavy fold backs with 15" speakers and horns, MDF builtI can't even move them now at my age LOL. I can't even give them away! make a good boat anchor I'm thinking.

Our sub is still pretty heavy- it’s a stretch for a one man lift! But it does mean we don’t need a bass amp so there’s some load off there

i wanted to have this kind of setup as well , since you are using in ear monitor as you only mic the bass drum, can you still hear the rest of the drums like snare when wearing IEM?

Hey, how about a video on how to use Reaper and a guitar VST (I'm using Helix Native) as a practice rig to practice songs - how do I play and listen to the mix cleanly - how do I get my latency down to a manageable number - how can I make it sound as close to playing live with my home rig when I'm on the road in a hotel room? Basically, want to use Reaper, Helix Native, some kind of interface, and my travel guitar to practice against a bunch of MP3 files. Thoughts on a video like that? I can't be the only one, am I?

That’s not a bad idea to frame it in that way

Mesa Boogie Strategy 500 and a ADA MP1 and some 12" Speakers is all I need :)

Sadly I don’t have the team of weightlifters to carry that, or the stadiums to play it in!

Seriously though, I have an old Mesa Fifty Fifty and that’s very heavy. How on earth do you carry around a Strategy? There’s so much iron!

what are the settings for the vox gate?

I have much the same setup, except drums are digital. The only live mics are vocal ones. How do you set your mix for the mains? I find it very difficult listening to a great inear mix, but not knowing how the mains are sounding, especially with varying instrument volumes.

Great video of your setup - what size/power of PA are you running?
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 5 лет назад
We’re running two Yamaha DXR12s on top (that claim to be 1100W each but that’s largely marketing) and a DXS15 Sub that’s roughly 1000W actual power. Between them we never run out of headroom because the sub takes most of the burden- the tops can cut below 100Hz so they can concentrate on clean mids and high end :)

Just not the same The inter room in the room ,volume issues and all Are essential if you ask me

But you’re not the paying customer. What they need is essential, what you want is optional
