On Saturday 6th Feb, Liverpool played Sunderland at Anfield. In response to the new ticket pricing structures announced during the week previous, Liverpool Fans had arranged to stage a walkout on the 77th minute (77 being the price a single matchday ticket will now reach).
The Redmen TV were at the game and walkout with the fans, here is our footage of the event.

I went to the match today and I have to agree there was a hostile and odd atmosphere around Anfield today... First half was utter shite, there was no urgency in our play and it was always sideways passing - but the second half was promising until Sunderland scored... I also agree that the walkout had some impact on the players and it signifies the importance of our fans to this club! Sunderland had their chances and took them and our dire defending somewhat helped them. But oh well, we go against West Ham! Get well soon Jürgen! #YNWA #FSGOut ⚽️🔴 RATINGS: Mignolet - 4 Clyne - 6 Lovren - 6 Sakho - 6 Moreno - 5 Emre Can - 6 Allen - 7 Henderson - 7 Milner - 7 Lallana - 6 Firmino - 8 SUBS: Toure - 7 Ibe - 6 Lucas - 6

"At a football club, there's a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the SUPPORTERS. Directors don't come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques". Bill Shankly on boardroom meetings We left. Results affected. Its good that we showed that! FSG needs to learn that they need to win over the fans if they want to do good "business" or else it affect games! Great play to everyone! We have influence on the results too! Not just the players/staff or the money! Dont ignore the fans FSG!! #WalkOutOn77
@hellowaya
@hellowaya 8 лет назад
But to sign those cheques, the board needs money, right? It's totally different game, and player prices, during Shankly era and current football, especially if we want to sign quality yet expensive players.. I agree raising ticket price is a burden to working class supporters who are mainly in liverpool, i hope there's solutions for it, like the BOD be more transparent on what'll they do with the tickets hike, also it'd be better if they take a cut in their paycheck or something.. And unloading high salary deadwoods ASAP.. YNWA

Despite it being closer, I still haven't seen a match because when you add up travel(+accommodation if you're staying over) and ticket prices then it gets really high. Some people make out that Liverpool supporters should be grateful to FSG for buying the club at a knockdown price. Those people haven't got a fucking clue. Yes the club came with a debt which they took on, but FSG got an amazing deal when they purchased Liverpool FC, as they got it at a knockdown price due to Hicks and Gilette being forced to sell by the board. The only people who saved the club, and who continue do so every season, are the fans. The fans are the ones who buy the tickets, T.V. subscriptions, and merchandise. Every penny of revenue generated for the club is done so by Liverpool supporters, not FSG. Without the supporters there is no Liverpool FC, and the owners need to realise that. When tens of thousands of Liverpool supporters cannot afford to attend football matches and support the team they love because of ridiculous ticket prices the owners need to be told in no uncertain terms that it is not acceptable. FSG have just benefited from the biggest TV payout of all time, and the new corporate boxes are going to generate even more revenue for them, and yet they still try to fleece Liverpool supporters for every last penny they think they can get. If the owners continue down this path, they need to be told to get out of our club.

I don't think all of you understand that FOOTBALL IS A BUSINESS. Are the Arabs at man city footie fans? No. Are the Glaziers footie fans? My arse. They are businessmen who make money to succeed in their lives. They've just pumped hundreds of millions on that new extension on anfield, and wasting money on transfer fees. To succeed in their jobs, they need money back. And it may seem harsh, but it's the only way to get it back as quick as possible
@ITOWords
@ITOWords 8 лет назад
People like you just swallow the corporate propaganda narrative, which presents FSG as the saviours of Liverpool FC. That narrative is bullshit. The supporters are the real saviours of LFC. They are the ones who finance the club through ticket sales, TV subscriptions, and merchandise - not the owners. Both FSG and the previous owners of Liverpool - as well as owners of many other Premiership football clubs - have taken match going supporters for granted for too long, pushing them to pay more and more. Well enough is enough, FSG need to understand that LFC supporters can not be taken for granted and that we will not pay rip off prices. We have a mediocre team to support and are still asked to pay some of the most expensive ticket prices in world football. European giants like Bayern, Dortmund, Juve, Barca, and Real play far superior football to Liverpool, and yet their regular match going fans pay far less to attend games. So don't give me bullshit lines which imply we should be grateful to FSG for putting money into the club, because what ever size of investment they have made pales into insignificance compared to what Liverpool supporters have contributed both financially and emotionally. You're right about one thing though, FSG are businessmen, so it's no good just asking them nicely not to put up the ticket prices. The only way that they will understand that it is unacceptable, is if it starts to hit them financially. Those supporters who want to see change for the longterm good of the club and its support, need to keep protesting and boycott merchandise and maybe even whole games until we're listened to and respected.

+his1ojd and the owners before the yanks turned up, most working class supporters were priced out many years ago.
@theparkedbuspodcast6360
@theparkedbuspodcast6360 8 лет назад
+his1ojd I still don't think FSG saved our club, but people day that their not committed or financially backing us, which they bloody well are. They pumped millions and millions of pounds into wasted transfers, and still back us. They are building a new extension to anfield, which the cost is extravagant, and are still behind us. This 'corporate propaganda' is not what you think is right, and I respect that, but if you put yourself in their shoes, then you'd understand. Financially, without them, Liverpool probably either wouldn't exist, or be a completely different style of club with no hope to the future. When they bought the club, they knew that they were in for the long haul, and would have to spend hundreds of millions, or even billions to restore the success of Liverpool. And, as businessmen, it's only natural to want something back. If that means increasing the ticket prices, then to me that's slightly tight but still can be logically backed. Then people complain that they don't support the club on the pitch. Well, am I seeing the Arab owners at city wearing blue scarves and chanting their name? No way. Why should someone/ some people change their mindset just because they are forced to? I agree that they're kind of treating fans not like real people, but you can see their thinking.
@ITOWords
@ITOWords 8 лет назад
+Chris Stonadge I think the team has been backed on the pitch, just that the majority of transfers we've brought in over the last two years are yet to prove themselves and many may never prove to be value for money. My point is while you believe FSG are to be commended for financially backing the club, the reality is that the money used to sustain Liverpool comes from the fans and player sales, not FSG. The money FSG spent to purchase the club was spent for their own benefit, while the money used to purchase players, pay salaries, and other costs comes from the fans and in recent times some big transfer sales (Torres, Suarez, and Sterling). People give too much credit to FSG, when the reality is that unlike the fans they are not involved with the club to make a loss, everything they spend is done so to make a profit. I would rather as a club we were owned by the fans, but I accept that is unlikely to happen, so I have no problem with FSG running the club as a business. My issue is that they are taking the match going supporters for granted and greed has got the better of them with these latest ticket price rises which are completely unwarranted given the extra income that they are about to see generated by the Main Stand extension and new TV deal. Supporters are getting ripped off with the ticket prices they pay, and this will only be exacerbated next season through FSG's greed.

A token gesture from the owners. The £77 price would have only applied to about 200 seats for 5 or so games a season in the league (not sure how much it would have applied in cups and Europe). Hardly a sign of the owners' greed or disregard for supporters. Prices are still too high for the lower-priced tickets in the £40 range in my opinion. That's still too much to be paying if you're on a lower wage. I think they need to re-evaluate the pricing structure. Simply lopping £18 off 200 seats for 5 games a season isn't exactly a "victory".

I am a supporter of Borussia Dortmund but I feel very proud of them as one of fans who really love football. I can't see this video without tears. Stupid owners are trying to kick out the fans who have a true love, and only welcome the people who have money. What a shame!! We have to stand up and try to save football. Respect for brave Liverpool fans.

what people don't realize is for every person in that ground on match day there most likely could be 2, 3 or 4 times that many people who would want to be but cannot because they can not get a ticket. that tickets worth is by far more than the clubs are charging for it as it is. you should be grateful they don't charge it's real worth. It's the demand for tickets from supporters that drive the prices. the money the clubs make from TV deals is irrelevant . ticket prices will keep going up until there are empty seats every match day like the Emtyhad over in Manchester :)

There's an assumption behind comments on this thread, and behind the protest, that FSG, purely because they're Americans making lots of money, are like the cowboys Hicks and Gillett, treating the club like a cash cow and milking it dry for themselves. Because of that, they think that more militant action is necessary and justified against another bunch of greedy American owners. From what I've seen, these owners are not like H&G, and are looking out for the better interests of the club. That doesn't mean that we should simply assume they're absolute saints: of course, their actions should be scrutinized. But things need to be kept in perspective. Staging more of these sorts of walkouts will do more harm than good. The focus should be on getting better-priced tickets for people who can't afford it, not on reducing the amount of money the club can make off ticket sales overall. Simply trying to stick it to the owners and bring them down will damage the club.

Like I said earlier, unfortunately the only way a protest like this would have any effect, is if the club were left with 44,000 unsold tickets and an empty stadium ... Get well soon Jurgen ...

I have to agree. You protest a 77 pound ticket by BUYING the 77 pound ticket? They don't care that you walked out in the 77th minute. They don't even care if you went to the game. Once you buy the ticket, it doesn't matter. You want to make a statement? Don't buy the ticket & don't go to the game. When they have about 3-4 empty stadiums then they might drop the price back down.

Liverpool board: "Ouch. Ooh. You paid your money and then walked out? Oh, make it stop."Reminds me of John Simpson and Ian Hislop on Have I Got News For You:"I read your book, John. I didn't enjoy it.""I don't care as long as you bought it."

I am gonna post this comment on every one of the videos you put up today in hopes that you read it. I'm a Liverpool fan from Croatia and I totally support the walk out. Football isn't what it once was and especially in England. Football used to be the peoples game but more and more people are being priced out especially the local people. How come that in Germany one of the best teams in the world right now had such low prices? How can you make that happen in England? One solution is to force the owners out out of the club but then again you don't know what you would get once the new ones came in. But there is one more solution. People have been talking about how the atmosphere in England is also on the decline. What if you could fix both problems. I was thinking about the same thing then I saw this video ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rAqa-auSn8w.html ) talking about safe standing. Some of you might criticise this idea and mention Hillsborough but you have to remember the true reason behind Hillsborough and remember that both football and technology have come a long way since then. It wasn't the standing that lead to the death of the 96 it was poor crowd managment and what a better way it would be to honour them than to see The Kop united once again jumping and singing louder then they did in the last 10 years. Not only would it solve the declining atmosphere everywhere in England but it would at the same time lower the prices. Take for example the Borrusia Dortmund. Their stadium has roughly 65000 seats for European games but for the league games the stadium can host up to 82000 people. That is more that a 26% increase in capacity and thus reducing the prices. I'm just a guy with a youtube account trying to send out a message but I honestly hope that you guys (Chris and Paul) get it and spread it even further because it's time for a change. "Few will have the greatness to bend history itself; but each of us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total of all those acts will be written the history of this generation" and what a generation we could be for the history of football if we could bring it back to the people. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH IT'S TIME TO BRING FOOTBALL BACK TO THE PEOPLE. YNWA

look obviously the true fans have every right to protest they have continued to show amazing support. .. what happens off field shouldn't effect the players but it obviously did but jus think the 70th minutes came at the time if u get my meaning .

Fully behind the walkout. Football is meant to be enjoyed by everyone and how many people can afford £77 for 90 mins football? Certainly not me !!!. Years ago football was for the working class to have a good afternoon out on a saturday, now its been taken over by the money men. Hopefully the owners will see the effect and take some notice of the fans angry at them.

We American sports fans take everything up the ass. Raising ticket prices for the NFL every year? No problem, we'll pay, we're like the frog in the water pot brought slowly to a boil. This moment made me prouder to call myself a Liverpool supporter than for any cup final or league that we have won or might win. A fan base that takes nothing lying down, whether it's the wrongful deaths of 96 fellow supporters or underhanded matchday ticket hikes, is one that I want to be associated with. You'll Never Walk Alone.
@Mr_Fourshot
@Mr_Fourshot 8 лет назад
I think regardless of the price, what ever happened to you'll never walk alone and this goes both ways, leaving is against the whole teams motto but pricing our real fans out is basically fsg trying to walk on their own. The main problem is two wrongs dont make a right i just hope our spirit that we have had recently hasnt been tarnished by this. #YNWA

great to see reds leading the way with this unique protest.which was ultimately successfultheir is an argument for making the top toe £77 . The reason being Liverpool is one of these world wide fan base clubs alongside UTDThe reason the stand is being built I to increase match day revenue not for affordable ticketingIn a perfect world wed charge £25a ticket to stand on a 24k Kop! That's not the real worldTo maximise matchday revenue LFC ,like uTD /Chelsea and arsenal have to take advantage of the demand and have higher priced ticketsIts impossible for the working man to afford £77 a game, but its for corporate and the day tripper fans who don't care how much the tickets are.They happily pay double that to the touts for some games[£77 is a bargain for them!]Making the anfield road end and kop affordable I thebest they can do. we need to increase match day revenue and compete with the others if we want the title to come back to Anfield

Be careful singing 'get out of our club', there are far far worse owners than FSG out there. Quite a powerful vid though which shows well the depth of feeling this constant ripping off of fans in the whole division is having on the normal fan.
