It makes me sad to see old pictures of my lovely home city. I left in 1992 and STILL get homesick. I visit family etc but this makes me sad. Added to that the music, nearly set me off again. 57yrs old but do not feel that. My heart is still home in Liverpool. RIP to those lost after I left. Time really has gone too quickly. 🙏🏼😞
Ah Jesus, Im 69 now , it was 1956 we left Liverpool for Canada, we made the wrong move, I played in bombed out sites, went to the shop at Irwins, such beautiful Music, Such a beautiful Place, My heartaches for home after all these years.

What number South Street did you live in?? I can name NEARLY EVERY FAMILY in the PARK ROAD end of South Street, on BOTH SIDES but I can't remember you. PLEASE titillate my old grey matter!!! I left London to live in Vancouver. Come back mate , couldn't get into this outdoors life and there red tape paperwork.overload , great country but not for me ..felt totally isolated. But l do understand your feelings. And l wish you well. Terry flynn London England now .God bless
What a lovely film. I’m not from Liverpool but moved here in 2002 to work for Liverpool Vision; a quango tasked with overseeing the regeneration of the city centre. However in a past life I had family who ran a chippy on Cockburn Street in the Dingle. Later they retired and “self-isolated” to the rural village of Skelmersdale before it was “improved”. You spared us the agony of “then and now” imagery of the Dingle, and thus the dilemma of what constitutes urban improvement. I am grateful for that. Far too many UK cities have lost far too much of their old urban fabric and it’s important to remember that urban redevlopment does not always lead to improvement. It often creates the opposite.
72yo now, I really miss the strong sense of community in those days and what seemed to be at that time, a simplicity of life, no matter the age of the buildings and state of the some places. It never seemed to be anything of importance then? On longer reflection, I guess the times of my childhood were about the people around us, how you treated each other, a sense of identity and belonging and there seemed to be a trust you could rely on in your community. Not perfect, but a community I'd rather be living in today than the one we live in now!
@@irenedavo3768 I watched from my new home of Sydney when they occurred..... the Liverpool of my childhood had gone by that time...and so had I ! My memories of the days before Toxteth remain pleasant ones thankfully.
Great video and nice relaxing music to suit old times in Toxteth, pity no pic's of Beaufort St were I was born, I have an old pic of me left outside the steps of No 33 in a pram when I was about 2 yrs old. We left to live in Kirkby when I was 3 yrs old in 1955, I remember Park rd well as we used to walk up there to catch the bus.
Thank you for a stroll down memory lane. As a born and bred Dingle lad (Caryle Gardens) this reminded me of old times. My family still live in the Dingle. Happy days.
I married a girl from the south end her name was Kitty Judge, that was in the fifties. We moved to North Wales in the late sixties and have lived there until now ( 2021) Many happy memories of those times but hard and poor times. Still, thanks to hard work and wonderful family of ours we now live happily ever after, god bless you all.
My husband is from the dingle we still live in Liverpool THIS CITY WRAPS ITS ARMS AROUND YOU WE TRIED CORNWALL BUT JUST WASNT FOR US CAME HOME TO THE POOL BEST DECISION WE EVER MADE

Hi Mandy, I was born at 18 South Street, Off Park Road, Liverpool 8 in 1947, opposite The Holy Land (David, Jacob, Isaac & Moses Street), My Sunday Morning treat until I was 8 was a trip with my father from DINGLE STATION to SEAFORTH & back, I loved it & even tho I am now 72 I can remember it VERY-VERY well. I have lived down the CONWY VALLEY, North WALES since 1981 BUT I have NEVER forgotten my roots, KENNY THOMPSON.
Many of the buildings and the rows of terraces you can see here are still present, and you are still able to recognise these places in the photographs. The curve of the hills and corners also give you a big clue to where you are.
This is a great video of the Dingle of my childhood, it shows Ebenezer Hall, our Sunday School and my Grandmother lived in Miller st, we lived in Sefton Square, my Mum and Dad lived there for 40 years, until they demolished a community.
we had to move out cos the council wanted to renew the houses .. i went to ebenezer hall for sunday school then to david street chapel .. i lived in bowring street
OMG these photos bring back such fond memories, I was born (1948) in Dingle, nan lived in Below St on the corner of Blackburn Terrace, I went to St Silas School, 6 mates used to drink in a little pub (The Alabama) Whittier St. Off Park Rd. Happy Happy days
Thanks for putting this up, I was only 7 when I left Liverpool, can't remember much but the photos of Dingle House do bring memories back, lived in 20d Dingle House and went to Matthew Arnold school before we moved to Winsford.
Left Liverpool in 1966 for Canada and have never been back. Grew up on Buckland Street and went to St. Michael's Primary School. Thanks for the memories Tom, I actually remembered a few places when I saw the photo's.
My nin, Mary Royden lived in Dingle House and babysat us for years. My parents moved to Canada in 1965 when I was 7 but those pics of DH brought back memories. My mum went to Mathew Arnold school. Still have a cousin in the Dingle.
My Grandma and Grandad lived in Caryl Grove. I went there on the overhead railway around the late fortys and early fifties. Love the place. Especially the engine sheds at Brunswick. (Iron Bridge).
Lovely to see this film about the Dingle, I lived in the Dingle for a number of years, lived in my nans house in Clevedon St with my mum and dad and brothers for a few years till we moved to West Derby, went to Our Lady of Mount Carmel infants think its St Finbars now, had a friend who lived in Dingle House her name was Jennifer Cambel used to go to her flat sometimes from school

Happy old days, lived next door to the Aigburth Cricket Club. Was a member there and played squash in the squash courts below. Just a short walk to the Mersey from home. Now live in far-away Australia. I shall return one day....hopefully. .
Hi Lynne, I remember at the same time you mention that my brother David had a friend who lived in JACOB STREET, he also went to live in CANADA, his name was ROY TUCKER, I still have a B & W photo of ROY with David & myself taken on ANGLESEY ISLAND on holiday with our family. Tar lar Tom. I was born in Gaskel st. Just on park rd. In 1960. Went to Toxteth county primary. My Dad Teddy was a docker, and mum worked in the southern hospital. Very happy days, Mr Coleman's class, had a crush on Susan Rath, and Karen Brown. Best mates was Tommy Brown, Micky Rodgers and my cousin Leslie Humphries. Happy memories of street party in 1966 world cup winners and Bill Shankley was our prime minister of Dingle. Loved going to the Toxteth Tabernacle Sunday school too. Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

I might be wrong but Gaskel street had only one( l.) We lived in modern flats. On the top floor of 3. Funny thing was they renovated them in the 80's and my Dad refused to move out, he had no roof over his head, whilst in bed the poor begger only had a plastic sheet above him. I have no old photos sorry Lynn.

You know I was spelling it with one l the map I have uses two L’s lol oh L what the heck lol. Hope your poor dad didn’t suffer too much without his roof . My late father came from Dingle but moved away late teens, I wondered did anyone know of him - called Francis Albert Rogers named by all as Frank born 1926
that was mrs graces on the corner of bowring street and drysdale street i went to parkhill road school and then to dingle vale i lived in bowring street top end by the poets corner .. i loved that area living in ireland now still see the family over in liverpool though im 61 this year lol how time flies .. great video thanks
Wellington Street school used to be the Toxteth Tech. Annexe where I went for the first two years of secondary school. I hated it most of the time, but enjoyed being in the school choir with Mr. Williams as choirmaster and singing at the Philharmonic Hall. I notice the school has been converted into flats. It is number 6 Wellington Street.
It's good fun trying to put a date on them. There are lots of clues. I am not from that area of the city, but very familiar streets. I wish I could go back in time.
What a bloody stink of pissy nappies. Fishing for socks that dropped off the drying bars. And the best memory was Mrs Crosses thick sliced toast with stork margarine. Mum loaded up the pram with bags of washing and worked bloody hard with a dolly on a boil wash.😱

I was born a few streets down from him & my brother Dave, 5 yrs older than me was best mates with Tommy Critchley better known as BILLY FURY also mates with Gerry Marsden (Gerry & The Pacemakers). Dave & Gerry went to DINGLE VALE SCHOOL together, later known as SHOREFIELDS SCHOOL. My Brother played the Elec Organ with EARL PRESTONS REALMS also EARL PRESTONS REFLECTIONS. Kenny Thompson.
