Wonderful collection of photographs. My mother and her family lived in the Dingle and we used to visit the grandparents most school holidays. Lots of great memories of the city.

Moved from the Dingle to Speke in 1960 as a 9yo, hated it! Every Friday after school I went back to stay with my gran in Wellington Rd for the weekend, for a few years, always felt like I was 'back home' :)

Thank you for an amazing trip from times gone by. I remember so much of this, as a young lad, growing up. I grew up in The Dingle, but even as a Kid, we used to venture into Aigburth, a world apart from what we were used to, but happy just the same. I left school in 1975 and we moved to Aigburth in 1980, where I still live today. Our great city is so diverse, but no matter how well we do, I hope we will always remember our early days 🙏💞

I was baptised in the church, lived on Ashbourne Road, my auntie took me to Aigburth Vale and in Sefton Park to go on the boats daily, my grand parents lived next to the cricket club, I watched hoping I would see my mum and dad, that was early 50s, thank you so much for my youth. ❤️👍

Grew up on Alresford Road in Aigburth and Oakland Road near the Liverpool Cricket Club. Moved away in 1972 to go to college and eventually moved to the USA. Just found these marvelous RU-vid videos and have spent a good hour looking at them. Brings back so many really vivid memories of my life up to age 20. I cannot wait to show them to my family and friends. Thanks for compiling all these videos Tom, you did a great job.

Happy memories of living just off St Mary’s Road up until I was 10 and family moved away from Liverpool. I can still remember getting the bus into town with my dear Mother from just by the church. Left in 1978. Happy memories. I close my eyes and I am there for a moment.

I fully understand. I finally left the city in 1947 After wartime coming and goings . Now 93. All my old friends and relatives have gone. Apart from them it’s the trams I really miss! Liverpool is so far behind with its lack of light rail which almost all major cities are having.

You know, Tom, I just rewatched this video again and I was just amazed at how much more detail I saw the second time around. Shop names I can now remember, Lark Lane, Aigburth Vale, Mersey Road, Liverpool Cricket Club, St. Anne's Church, Garston Baths, and on and on. I even saw where my old dentist, Ken Cranston, was on Aigburth Road opposite the Fulwood T.A. Barracks. Stuff just kept flooding back. Thanks again for the great memories.

@notyhbynorthwest
@notyhbynorthwest Год назад
@@valbachelder8828 I never remembered his breath! I was partly in awe of him and partly intimidated by him. In awe because he had been a former England Cricket player as well as the Captain of the Lancashire Cricket Club. Intimidated because he was quite strict and there was absolutely no conversation. When I moved away, my next dentist was a woman who really could put you at ease. It was night and day. I can remember his car registration plate was 1KC. Must be worth a small fortune nowadays.

Filmed about 1970, and possibly on a Sunday with very little traffic.I can identify all the old cars, including locally built Ford Anglias at Halewood, Triumph Heralds at Speke, and Vauxhall Vivas at Ellesmere Port. One was an early A reg Hillman Imp (ATJ989A) in Tranway Road at 2:45
@curioussoftware

There are a mix of pictures not all taken at the same period as with Aigburth vale and the tram
@nevillemason6791
@nevillemason6791 2 года назад
Filmed at various times. You get a rough timescale by the car registrations 'D' reg 1966, 'F' reg 1968. The tram service to Garston ceased 6th June 1953. There's one view including the cricket club at 6:24 with the track not tarmacked over but the overhead wires removed. This was probably shortly after the route was abandoned. An 'A' reg (1963) Hillman Imp in 1970 would be a very old car as they rusted like mad in those days!

Inspired by watching your tour of Park Road I watch this episode. I assume Aigburth Rd was widened in the early 1970's judging by the registrations of some of the cars. Some owners got away with losing just a bit of their gardens but others lost some beautiful properties all together. Very sad.

Hey, Blythswood Street! Dad had the only car in the street. Now you can't find a space to park. And that massive scary church and Garage I used to climb over, near the Dingle bus sheds - now gone. Any pictures of the Inglenook pub, now care home where I downed my first pint of Mild for 1/9 a pint? Or St Charles Junior School?
