The gentleman asking for the back boiler is my grandad who we never got to meet as he passed away 6 years after this video was filmed when my mum was 32. Was very surreal to hear the voice of a man I've only heard about in stories. Very overwhelming for my mum and auntie to hear his voice again after 36 years. Born in 1950 in the Dingle, as bad as the houses were, I loved the place. It always felt like "this is my world, my people", I enjoyed my upbringing. However, by 1974 had been to university, got myself a degree and jumped on a plane to Australia to live a life that was even better than I'd dreamt of. Mostly lived within 100mts of a beach and feel extremely fortunate to have been able to create my Aussie life. Still proud I came from Liverpool though :)
It was at or about this time that Liverpool was at its lowest ebb in my opinion. The seventies saw a massive decline in shipping and many of the docks and port system had become derelict. I worked in Liverpool 1982 to 84 and the place consisted of boarded up warehouses and shops and crumbling houses and flats. Everything seemed in decline. It simply beggars belief the change that Liverpool has seen since then. The derelict docks have been transformed into desirable houses, leisure centres, marinas and cafe bars, The dock rd now consists of shiny new car showrooms and fashionable apartments. Liverpool has seen MASSIVE investment far beyond anyone's most optimistic expectations. The Liverpool skyline has been completely transformed over the past 25 years. Liverpool can now qualify as one of the truly GREAT European cities in my opinion
@@mimi1811able . Yes, I agree. I am Liverpool and it is very apparent that the accent has changed markedly over the years. In this film you can hear it is softer and more eloquent. It has become a lot harsher over the years, it's become a parody of itself.
People were so much more "normal" back then. Men were men and women were well, women. Nobody was covered head to toe in tattoos or walking about like wannabe wags and celebs from Love Island. Times have changed, attitudes have become too arrogant and it's now in Britain a "I want it now" society

Phrases like "you mustn't do that/you must do" (nowadays it would be "you should/you shouldn't") and little things like that have changed, not just the speed patterns and the slang and other exaggerated way of speaking with a scouse accent.
@@michaelpeacock9420 Yes but the streets are still there and I lived in one off the house shown in the video but yes most off the people will be gone but the streets still stand to this day and my family live in some off the house to this day
