In this video we head inside a historic structure in the centre of Liverpool that has been truly forgotten and neglected, and now sits in a dusty state. Nothing has changed inside the building since the 1920s!

I’m from Liverpool really enjoyed this video! Hope the city council do something with this building turn it into a museum possibly. I believe it’s really important to remember the past especially your home towns

I was fascinated by this. I've never heard of anything like this in the US. Thank you!

It seems that the exchange chain of buildings was regional in the UK so I doubt you would find them anywhere else, and thank you :)

I worked in a building in the north that was cheap office space, one day, bored I went down the back stairs... it was amazing - huge wooden cabinets full of bottles, tubes, metal equipment, giant hooks hanging from the ceiling... I went to the library to find out what the building had been, and in Victorian times was a team of doctors and surgeons that owned it. I’d love to know if it’s still there but I’m guessing that it’s long gone as the whole area has been renovated into residential units. Made me click on your video though, and subbed as you are good at combining your footage with research and nice editing!

Good work Lads. Well done for catching this before developers rip this place apart to build apartments or offices. This place needs to be put back into it's original state and preserved. There's history there. These building hold stories in there old bones. Has a kid growing up in Manchester i saw so many beautiful building destroyed to make way for fancy apartments and office blocks. History gone for ever.

You done a fab video here lads!! It was so dusty in there ! The club underneath each room used to be where the fruit was stored when they where warehouses the fruit used to come up on the lift in middle of the room for the people to see and bid on. It’s a shame that the clubs have filled the old warehouse spaces underneath and that the old fruit lifts are not nothing but a layer of concrete in a hole :(((

An excellent and professional video gents and an incredibly beautiful building, what a waste. My only concern is that now you have identified it (many would have been totally unaware of its existence) it might attract the idiots, vandals and thieves and that would be tragic. Hopefully the owners will see this and take adequate measures to protect it.

Thank you, we appreciate that and hope nothing like it occurs. The only way you can tell the history of this site is by giving it it’s name, otherwise it wouldn’t make sense

Proper love this vid guys! Live and work in Liverpool and spend every day in awe at the beauty and history that lies in the facades of our glorious city! So great to see the buildings that made Liverpool what it is today! Please try and check out 8 Hockenhall Street off Dale St next time your here, it's the oldest brick build in Liverpool, a modest one up one down standing since the 1770's and a beautiful piece of history!

This brought back some memories - used to get the bus over the road when I was in my first job and couldn't drive - spent many a night in the pub at the rear (Was the rubber soul, no idea what it is these days); left Liverpool years ago and rarely in that area when I do come back. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

At the back of this is Mathew Street where the Cavern is. Above the Cavern were warehouses for storing fruit. They were knocked down in the 1970s, I think.

Lovely film. I've been in there, many years ago, myself, when the trading floor was not so decayed. My only advice would be to check out what went on at the fruit exchange. It was more part of the global financial/trading infrastructure that the city had (also Exchange Flags and the Cotton Exchange bdg just around the corner, for example). They dealt in future harvests and cargoes internationally, rather than it being some sort of metropolitan wholesalers.

I have seen quite a number of time slip stories about Liverpool, Bold Street in particular, It isn't so hard to fathom after seeing a place like the Fruit Exchange. It could just blur into life.
