I remember living in Winifred Street for a short time aged around 3 years circa 1957 . The place was a grotty run down dump ,old shops & side streets of dull terraced houses with outside bogs & dirty back jiggers lit by gas street lamps . Even at 3 years of age I could see we needed to get away from the place & was glad when we did . Going past the area on the bus , after moving away, used to depress me , before I finally left Liverpool for good . At least the place is now starting to look brighter ,now as they bulldozed the old shops ,grotty rat infested back streets ,jiggers & old houses . The new housing & landscaping is a good start ,but I still would not want to live there again .
