That brought back some memories. I used to love going to Blacklers with my Mum, the place was massive. I remember the Rocking Horse they had for the kids to play on. I remember my Mum saying, if you can`t get it in Blacklers, you won`t get it anywhere. Another wonderful shop was Coopers, you could smell it before you got anywhere near it, the smell of freshly ground Coffee, not that we could afford it. They had Beautiful polished copper topped counters. It`s sad the way places have changed and not always for the better.

My mum and dad were both born and raised in Bootle. Mum’s parents were landlord/lady of a dicker’s pub on the old Derby Road called the Cottage. Beautiful iconic pub at the beginning of the Derby Road. Sadly demolished to make way for the new dual dual carriageway that runs alongside the docks. Both my parents died recently; I wish I had found this film whilst they were alive. They would have loved it. (Dad’s job meant we moved down to Berkshire, so did not get up there much. (Mum especially missed it) Wish I’s

Liverpool is now a mere shadow of what it used to be. It was a vibrant, thriving exciting port. Famous the world over for so many things - not least the outstanding waterfront buildings. Now COMPLETELY RUINED. Who on earth approved any of the plans for any of the hideous, ugly out of character buildings that have sprung up around the whole of Liverpool over the last 10-20 years? It’s shameful. Liverpool’s waterfront was iconic. Now the beautiful three graces are lost among the ugly concrete and steel monstrosities that dominate the skyline. My father, who worked in the Liver Buildings for many many years, wouldn’t recognise the place now. It’s a sad sad reflection of the times. A once great port reduced to useless buildings which serve only as tourist tat shops and wine bars and places of amusement instead of places where people used to work and thrive. It’s very sad.

I couldn't agree more! I made 4 trips there from 1980 - '83, and the place was magical....from the architecture and the people, to Mathew St and Forthlin Rd. From current-day video, I don't recognize the City Centre.

Heartbreaking watching the overhead railway and beautiful trams being destroyed💔 Shame on the idiots who made those extremely short sighted decisions.

Was the clip at the beginning supposed to be on how to make Scouse? Surely not - have never seen it made with milk/cream or pastry before! (Nor served in a posh silver server, either) Excellent film though - wonderful memories!

I think it was called Woolton Pie, a meatless meal when meat was severely rationed
