Hey Brooklyn, i hope you're well. I read your comment about being married with kids in spite of your CP which I think is great! I'm also a CP sufferer and i am 25 and I'm starting to think a lot about the possibility of marriage and kids etc and how that would play out given my condition. Tbh I worry a lot about if id be capable of accomplishing those things. My CP is mild and I'm fairly independent but these questions still pose a lot of worry in my mind. Do you have any advice? - God bless you and your family ❤

Thank you Matthew for your CP video which is most interesting. I am affected on my left side , arm & leg. It has been a challenge over my life but thanks to terrific physiotherapists, swimming in warm water all helps the muscle spasms. I’m 67 now with a very helpful partner in my life. I’ve worked most of my life but admit as I become older the body is changing, after a few surgeries on arm & leg muscle spasms aren’t as bad as before. Good luck for the future Matthew & family, plus all other cp patients who have corresponded on this video

I really want to compare notes and find out how Mathews experiences compare to mine, so I can get base line for the cerebral palsy experience. Relating to someone that doesn't have the cerebral palsy situation is difficult because they can't comprehend all the way Cerebral palsy impacts our lives. One of the biggest problems I face is trying to differentiate between experiences and situations that caused by cerebral palsy stigma or weather it is just normal bullshit that everyone puts up with. Lots of the time I can't tell and I think end up looking like an asshole, but don't like being taken advantage of either.

Watching this videos is like looking in mirror, it kind of eerie, It is god damn rare to see someone else like me, I can tell you that I'm 40 with the same cerbral palsy as well and is first for me, it's like seeing a member of your own species for the first time. I'm pleasantly surprised you are married, and are happy more or less. As years have worn on, things for me have gotten harder and harder, the last few years especially. The older I get the more isolated I seem to become, when was in my 20's and early 30's this wasn't a problem, but I just turned 40 this year, people seemed to have become a lot more distant as a whole. I am trying to change my situation have taken steps to improve certain aspect of my life. I own a house, truck, dog so I am good financially but socially I might as well be living in the Sahara. This wasn't problem when I was younger, but now it's like have leprosy, the social isolation is brutal. I was wondering how old you are and if maybe you have experienced the same situation, and if so how do you combat the problem. People just flat out treat me like don't exist these days, I don't know what changed. Anyway I hope things keep better and better for you, best of luck man.
@matthewstruthers9775
@matthewstruthers9775 5 лет назад
Thanks for sharing man. I'm sorry that you feel isolated, I personally haven't experienced that, but as you said, you didn't experience that in your 20's and early 30's, and I'm 28 years old. I guess I only notice it around 6 or 7 year olds who just stare at me as I walk past. That can get annoying sometimes, but I try to tell myself that they're just kids. I am very happy and I think a lot of that has to do with my family. My parents and siblings made sure growing up that I wasn't ever given any special treatment unless I absolutely needed help with something. I also force myself to talk to people and be super transparent. Has your back or legs or anything gotten worse as you've aged? I'd be curious to know, I try to keep exercising so my back doesn't give out. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best.

I’m in my mid 40’s, spastic CP and nobody can tell, unless they’re around me a lot. My Scissor gate is pretty much gone & stayed gone but I’ve dealt with a myriad of physical health problems since I was 26, so I’m back to wearing ankle foot orthotics and I have chronic pain. I want to meet you Matthew, because I grew up in Utah. Also, a friend of mine is trying to build a non profit for adults with CP… to better understand how it affects us each through aging. There’s no $ for that kind of research since most CP patients are on Medicaid. So it’s up to us, to pioneer the way and try to advocate for the lack of medical care and research for adults living with CP. my brother Brian also had CP, he died in a nursing home at 42. He had the non-spastic type and he was autistic… his care was often neglected due to his inability to communicate and advocate for himself and his lack of understanding to push to meet his PT milestones, as well as his inability to research whatever symptoms he had. I did the best I could for him but I needed more information from other adults with CP, especially with his type of CPA since I have the other kind. Anyone with CP who would like to reach out to me, may email me with subject line CEREBRAL PALSY ADULT & drop me their phone number to have a chat. MegsBiz2018@gmail please don’t market to me or send SPAM, thanks ✌️

Daily swimming makes you less stress and helps to reflex your muscles. For young cp patients please be strong. For parents of young cp .it's very important to train patient to be independent.

@UtahNeuroRehabilitation
@UtahNeuroRehabilitation 5 лет назад
Yes, that is a common problem. Tight hip flexors, hamstrings and ankles are common. Do you have access to a physical therapist? They can help. Daily stretching is super important if you have tight muscles from cerebral palsy. Also, regular breaks during the day might help.
@broccoli4002
@broccoli4002 5 лет назад
Mirakle it sounds like you have a tilted pelvis like me. I have spastic dieplegia , and your thigh muscles and hip flexors will be pulling your pelvis forward which alters your spine etc.....so to fix it , you need to look up hip flexor and thigh stretches....it’s painful to begin with , but if you keep going you will eventually help it. sadly you will have to do the stretches a lot especially if you walk a lot.

I have ataxic cerebral palsy and I still knock over things and am very shaky sometimes, I’m not trusted to do anything with knives (or cooking) in the kitchen. I used to not be able to walk in a straight line but I had walking and speech therapy and now everything has improved sort of.

I am glad to hear that you have improved.Occupational therapy can help with kitchen tasks. Also, there are a lot of adaptive devices to help.

There are many different surgeries. You could talk to a physician specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or Orthopedics. Make sure they have a lot of experience in working with people with cerebral palsy.

is perventicular leukomalacia (pvl) and cerebral palsy same thing??
@UtahNeuroRehabilitation
@UtahNeuroRehabilitation 4 года назад
Periventricular leukomalacia is a type of brain injury that you can see in premature infants. Most infants with pvl do have cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is the disorder of movement and muscle tone that results from the pvl brain injury.

@@UtahNeuroRehabilitation thanks for reply. My baby have pvl by birth. he is one year old now. still not crawling, sitting, not grabbing things by his own, otherwise his grip is firm. He laughs on funny noises, listen songs, neck balance is 90% . He is not very socializing. are these signs of cerebral palsy. ( he suffered from IS at 9 months, now 5 months spasm free)

I have the same kind of CP, though pretty mild, I’ve been doing a video on RU-vid for years. It was difficult at first, but if you take it very slow and do it every day, it will loosen up your hips (my biggest problem area) and the rest of your body. I can’t believe the things I am able to do now. STRETCHING IS AMAZING! :) The video is: Fitness Blender Goodbye Stress Calming Stretching Routine. Don’t do or modify the stretches that are too difficult. Eventually, you may be able to work up to them. Sending loose muscle vibes your way!! ✌️
