That dish has many versions, pork with tamarind or guava base soup or fish with miso. My favorite is mashed taro with beanstalks and ground pork, I hope you can try all versions some day! I don't know where you live, but usually if you go to wet markets or mini marketplaces like that sari sari store, meat and vegetables go for cheaper than in supermarkets.

You can try Sinigang with chicken or shrimp too. Also you can add "gabi" which gives the Sinigang soup or "sabaw" a thicker texture. You nailed your first try Mana-san!

I think that you making Filipino foods can be a good regular segment of your daily vlogs. there are many delicious foods that are easy to cook like adobo, nilaga (clear beef broth), ginisang ampalaya (filipino 'goya chanpuru'), fried or grilled fish, and chicken afritada (these are very common everyday home "ulam" that we eat with boiled rice). you're also doing very well to learn tagalog. great job!

Despite being a foreigner, Mana did a good job being price concious when buying. Comparing prices is a crucial attitude in surviving here in philippines. Especially when the prices in the market keep getting higher.

Mana, there are some supplies that better buy in supermarkets but when it comes to vegies, meat, spices and fish better buy at wet market. Supermarket price is sometimes doubled or way to expensive than wet market. 😊

Other way to cook sinigang is to suite onion garlic and tomato then at pork until partially brown add salt and pour water to boil after boiling add all vegietable and sinigang flavour mix.

People also use milk fish/ Bangus and chicken also for sinigang and alternative to Kangkong is Camote tops / Talbos ng Kamote which looks exactly the same except that the stem on Kangkong is hollow than that think of it as Broccoli and Cauliflower comparison

Vegetables and fruits are expensive when you buy on a grocery you go to a local market it's much cheaper there and vegetable prices are high during wet or rainy season it's July middle of the monsoon and typhoon season.

Hello Mana, I was able to buy kangkong here in Japan. Some supermarkets sell. Just use hourenso if wala ka makita. Tapos you can replace the sinigang mix with lemon, that is healthier 😉 Enjoy learning how to cook other Filipino dishes. Ganbatte ne❣️

Our style of cooking sinigang is we boiled the pork first until its tender. Then we add the vegetables and last is the tamarin powder or fresh tamarin. Sometimes we use santol and the patis or salt and vetsin to taste.
