God call me out of my comfort zone and complacency 5 years ago, a Protestant at 58 years old and a baptist deacon of 20 years, to come home to Mother Church. The Holy Catholic Church.
This is still one of my favorite songs after all of the years. It speaks becoming more than just a babe in Christ but to be a warrior for Christ. It takes a mature believer to wear the armour of God. A child does not have the know-how to wield the sword of the Spirit like a grown man. It takes many hours for a sword-master to become just that. So does the Word of God.
Such a powerful song all these later after it was written. We as Christians here in America have, I think, lost our devotion and calling to serve. As this song says, there is safety in complacency, and we are so comfortable and complacent in this nation.
Wow, what has happened to Gospel song writing after the 90's...? seems nothing like this... Lord help us...most songs don't challenge our sin anymore...I could be wrong...but it just feels that way. Steve Camp, Allies, Curtis Chapman, Susan Ashton, Sandi Patti, Shiela Walsh, Rich Mullins, Amy Grant, Twila Paris, Michael English, Avalon, Carman, Russ Taff, Larry Howard, De Garmo & Key, Newsboys, Michael.W.Smith ... the list goes on... all of these people have touched my life for God.
+Lance Marchetti Nope, you're not wrong at all. I completely agree. I don't even listen to today's Christian contemporary music. I agree about how songs don't challenge our sin now! Today's "Christian" music just makes it sound like everyone is a Christian. I'm so glad we have the old greats to listen to!
Are there Steve Camps, Keith Greens in Christian music anymore?? I used to take notes at Steve's concerts. One thing he said, I'll never forget, "Jesus will never be all that you need, until He's all that you've got."
@kellygg They are few and far between, however, there are some artists who are really declaring God's Truth without reservation. Although the genres are far different from Steve and Keith, men like Shai Linne, Lacrae and Josh Garrels are truly solid and feature prominently on my playlist :)
