Living End has been a deck in Modern for a long time, but some subtle new additions from Modern Horizons 2 have allowed it to endure the changes in the meta and the power of cause opponents much grief. Let's take the deck out for a spin in a Modern league and see what it's all about!

The choice of destroying the opponent's gameplay in Saga and Amulet instead of the graveyard hate was a pro play

Great application of "Who's the beatdown?" You were better set up to hit land drops and play spells if both game plans were disrupted, but the Titan player was better set up if you both tried to do force tour game plan

Wow... Living End even 5 years ago was basically a budget Modern deck. Fulminator Mage really the only expensive thing. Now it's just absurd.

Played a budget version of the jund one without shocks or fetches and I still was crushing Bant Eldrazi and such. Was violent.

Some of my favorite Living end games have been when something goes wrong and I get to cast a big stupid creature every turn for the rest of the game and my opponent has to deal with that.

Game 3 was a thing of beauty. Definitely worth considering a Zagoth Triome in the deck to maybe cast Architect or Carabid in a situation like that.

You can cast Grief/Architect of will, you have mana confluence and Gemstone mine :)

17:40 I think a better line in this side boarding would have been to drop to 1 copy of Living End so they have the lowest chance of milling it, then pull in all your forces and control pieces. Nice to see the win though!

excuse me seth, as a self proclaimed living end expert, the deck had a lot more diversity than just cycle living end back in the jund colors days. i was doing alot of testing with the expertise cards, and split cards like crime// punishment and had a very good record with the deck. top 8ing my first gp ever, and always winning fnms. was alot stronger than people used to think. there was alot of niche plays. that being said its definitly stronger now tho. loved the games

After having checked on Scryfall, there are like 3-5 1 mana cyclers that are better than Monstrous Carabid, no way that's a right inclusion.

There are? I couldn't find any with a hybrid or generic 1 mana cycling cost that costs 2 or more and are better statted, which ones did you find? :o

@@albaniaalban Well, if you think it having a red or generic cýcling cost is critical, then only 2. But the hybrid literally doesn't matter, since the deck can't produce black mana with any lands except Confluence and Mine, which both mana of any color. Cerodon, Vantasaur and Windcaller were the 3.

@@Wurstchue2000 That is legitimately a point, though Windcaller can be pitched to Subtlety, which is probably better, since Living End in hand can be pitched to Grief.

@@RasmusVJS True, but there are a total of 24 blue cards vs. 16 black cards in the deck of which 4 each are pitch spells. Therefore it seems the right choice to add to the black card count if possible.

Seth, have you ever considered not cutting any main deck cards when sideboarding against mill? Sometimes I actually put my entire sideboard into the deck and it really ruins their day.

I'd like to see a return to Lorwyn, but I have the sneaking suspicion that the strict modern Wizards art direction would be in full effect, and we wouldn't get the nice stylistic stuff again.

Wasn't playing when Lorwyn released but looking back at older cards I've always liked the art from Lorwyn the most. Most the art now kinda sucks. There's still some cool art but most is just the realistic style which I think is ugly and causes most of the sets to lose their identity from one another. I'd hate if they did that to Lorwyn even though I wasn't around when it came out.

I have always found it weird how when playing against tron, you worry more about the lands than about the payoff. You probably should be countering their Ugin, not their map

Waow it seems no one noticied, but game 2 against stoneblade, at 9'58, keep "violent outburst" instead of the land ! It is not a big mistake since the game could have gone differently. But, as a living end player, i can tell you 4 lands is plenty and a chance to cascade "living end" is precious. You never know when boardwipe or a counterspell will ruin your day. The plan of casting janky stuff in modern is not that relevant anymore. I know, knowing its hand Seth thought he was safe. But really, a land is not important. Throw that to the graveyard

Think more Subtletys was the right choice for that last matchup ... most of their damage was creature based so just having additional ways to bounce their creatures after they got big would've bought you extra time

I think the problem is if we actually get to six lands something has gone pretty wrong. The downside of having to play our cascade spells off turn is better than the upside of being able to play stuff when we get to six mana.

Living End is not a glass cannon deck and never was. Beast Within could always answer anything. In the sideboard you always had specific answers to opponents hate. Sure these new additions might be an upgrade but glass cannon? Never was. Edit. I guess I will add a little validity to what I am saying. I have played a shit ton of this deck. Was 1 win away from making top 8 with it at Grand Prix Copenhagen 2017 but lost the mirror. The guy I lost to played in the finals.
