Thank you for sharing your journey! Your content always feels shorter than it actually is, which I appreciate. My partner and I got to watch lots of episodes together and we really enjoy every moment, including the silly ones! Looking forward to the next episode already. 😀
the way you two can keep the excitement flowing is exceptional .That nice water container looked beeping HEAVY. A true loving companion would have turned the water off .. getting soaked was far more fun . purrfect script . Loving every minute . can,t wait for the UMA renovation / refit to kick off. Plasticell bulkheads are the way forward .. forget soggy plywood .Mould prevention / avoidance must be a real challenge on your "tick list" of things to do / look into .
I don't know what the reality is. But, on the face of it, I really like the way that Dan, when he's videoing Kika, seems to always find a way of somehow showing her in a way that validates and strengthens her persona. Good to see in a man. Kika does the same for Dan, just in a different way. It's hard to explain. But exemplary. I do hope it's real, social media is so hard to trust.
Kika reminded me of a mountain goat ignoring gravity, while she was clinging to the van with her feet while securing those panels on the roof! You are so strong! Those solar panels A+ and had to laugh when Dan dumped ice down her tank! But I can tell you two are enjoying each other and your time together. Loved the sling idea! Little David and Goliath action and you both were good at it too! Not as easy as it seems. Enjoy your road trip!
You guys are the best…thanks for sharing all your journeys…it’s been a while, but I still watch your video of Uma’s interior transformation…my dream is to have an Alberg 22 or 30 and copy the most I can the perfect layout you did for your Pearson 36…cheers and continue your journey episodes…thanks❤
Looking forward to when you work on the boat again. Not many channels have owners redoing their boats from start to finish but there are hundreds (probably thousands) of camping and rv and travel videos to choose from.
It is good to learn of the progress made over 10 years in both solar and battery technology. I smile at your obvious love of each other. Yes the playing with ice and the tossing rocks is playful teen behavior but you still likely will find making love in the car or boat equally romantic when you both are in your seventies. Good luck.
Hey guys I just got into my first place to live and twenty years it's a brand new apartment all new appliances which is really amazing so many blessings to everyone out there. It's been a long time coming in my favorite thing about this place more than anything else is that I can a have a farm in my place, B. I can have ice because the fridge has an ice maker in the freezer!! ❤❤❤❤
To the you don't need fancy toys topic; When we were at my cousins birthday, she was maybe 7 or 8 and was absolutely showered with the latest and greatest from Playmobil, Disney and what not and the thing she walke around with all day, ignoring most of the other stuff was the little kaleidoscope lens thingy we bought at a local Christmas market for her. It was so cool to see her joy at seeing the world in a different way and how the smallest and cheapest thing she got was the one that got used the most. Even a few weeks later she always had it tied around her neck.
Can I put my name down to be the next owner of that truck when you move back onto water full time? It’s gorgeous, and I know that anything that you two do to it will make it better, or at least not worse! ;)
considering where you are located, the sling seems like the perfect weapon. The Balearic slingers were known to be some of the best slingers and they were hired by Carthage to fight the Romans.
I wish that you'd tell us a bit more about Sardinia -- the town(s) you were in, the beach you chose, just why you were there and where you were going etc. ....
Your rock climbing skills really pay off at the most unexpected times...ie...the roof rack! Also, the slow-mo shot from behind Kika with the sling, showing the rock landing is the water, gave a great perspective on the whole process...nicely done!
Your comment about an induction cooktop struck a spark. We are not sailors but travel with an off road travel trailer. It has lots of solar when the sun is out and battery power. It is short with only 2000 watts inverter and a 1800 watt induction cook top. We love good food and the two burner cooktop is so limiting. I am looking forward to how you approach this on the renewed Uma.
Those are called bullet ice, and are quite soft. My wife has anemia, and one of the symptoms is a craving to chew ice. We bought a counter top ice maker, and it really changed a lot of things!
Don't know if it's the camera angle, if not then your fisheye mirror is supposed to be adjusted to see your tire where it meets the road. Set main side mirrors to barely see the side of the truck, then set fisheye Yes it's better you not charge those deepcycle batteries with an alternator. I always try to keep my alternator demand to below 70% of it's rated output. They tend to last at least 5 to 7 years like that. In my past boats and RV's, camper tow trucks I've always installed a separate clutched generator on the motor for charging deep cycle banks.
Ha! Ice when you get back to having you RO you have to make ice from there the cubes have les gases in them and more pure hence the cubes will last in your glass WAY longer !
I recognized the ice tray at the beginning of the video :) I am team Eco Flow and have the Glacier Frig/Freezer, 2 batteries (River2Pro and DeltaMax200) plus Wave1 and Wave2. They are my transportable solution: House/RV. So far, so good with all - I hope you have the same great experience. And now I am thinking about solar panels after hearing your experience. I live in NW Montana US and travel Pacific NW so sunshine is tricky to come by ... and never at a tropical angle. Anyway, thanks for sharing that bit in some detail.
Thanks Dan and Kika for the truck and scenery tours, water water water everywhere. With technology rapidly growing, everybody will be able to RV or boat sa IL. You are both two good-looking people. Thanks much and catch you on the next one❤❤❤
I never revamp aboat and i dont think i will ever will in my lifetime hahah but iive learnt so much about it from you guys. It's so cool to see the process. thank you for sharing and i cant wait for the finish build :) cheers from Singapore
What most impresses me is your tranquility alone in a beach, apparently never thinking in the possibility to be robbed or have some security problem. Here in Brazil, unfortunately, is impossible to make that. The risk is extremely high. I am ashamed to say that, but it is true.
I have built a little pole behind canopy on a utility trailer that used to pack my 3 Wheeler in and on the two back doors that used to swing open I had my kitchen sink on one side and cupboards and on the other side was my stove and on the side of the trailer I had a clip on table used to take it out of the back of the trailer and then just clip it on the side of the trailer with one leg on it I was really dumb my soul the thing for like 300 bucks and it was all checker plate aluminum that I welded together with a trailer floor and everything and it tilted so I could drive the trick up into the back and then back the track out and then fold down the bed at the front and all your cupboards inside and you're stove and you sink on the doors when you open them up you could cook inside or you could even cook it outside
Your electronic content is the best I've seen from a sailing channel by far and away! The adventures are pretty sweet as well. That Land Rover is supper cool! What year was it again? I'm looking for an older one with the recessed front grill. Like a 1974 or something like that. Love that white color. That's the perfect camper vehicle.
The beauty of the land rover is how simple it is. It's an engine strapped to four wheels and an awning. It only went all wrong when they tried making it complicated, that's how we ended up with turds like the "Discovery"
Great stuff 🙂 I'm an old fart, in Canada. Next summer I'm heading to BC maybe the Yukon and Alaska, prospecting. To facilitate that, I bought an old Chevy Blazer 4wd. I got it for $300 and am fixing a lot of mechanical issues. It's too small to do what you're doing, so I plan on getting a small enclosed trailer and outfitting it with much of what you are installing... Needless to say, I'm watching these videos, intently... Great stuff and a lot of good ideas. Thanks for posting all of this 🙂
Go for it. Do be aware that you can get the same bang for a lot less bucks. Beware "all in ones" and blue boxes ;) And pretty much anything gotten in a sponsorship deal. They are not horrible or anything but if I was to buy one, it would have about the same effect as buying a couch.
I am from Sardinia, I strongly suggest you to go to Valle della luna (close to San Teodoro) and reache the beautiful beaches in golfo di Orosei doing the hikes
You can buy a fitting to refill your "Camp" gas containers from a 20 lb. container. The fitting is 13 bucks and you never have to buy another $10 camp stove propane container again. 😃
DAN!!! Poor Kika - that ice water down her front after you kissed so nicely and passed the icecube between you!! Naughty! And - sorry, Kika - it was very funny.
I lived on boats and convertred trucks a lot. There is one major downside: You do not have a garden! My dream life now iis to convert monculture forest into forest garden and to be surrounded by interesting people. This visionary concept can be found in the new book that I wrote with Andrew Toth: Garden Communities. And down by the river I have my little hobie pedal-and-sail trimaran and go cruising with a tent. Thank you for all your inpiration - you get me fancy new trips on the amazing Mediterraneran Sea. Trees are pretty patient... Ralf Otterpohl
Very strange hearing a Landy called a truck. I have a Truck, and it weighs 9t and is 8m long. I've owned Landys and never thought of them as a truck, once the back is off, they are more like a Ute.
Love your work! I was just telling my partner how similar you guys are to us. We have a truck and an older yacht and ADHD. Then you did the sling tutorial and now it is confirmed.
Howdy, I was wondering how you guys started out initially ? I read you guys did uni - Architects , started a firm , had it all , then went sailing. Curious the logistics early days was it a - build and sell the initial business to gurantee costs coverage while the YT channel took off or? Curious ball park #s - not planning to YT - I do plan to sail :)
well, we didn't really "have it all" yes, we graduated from architecture school, we started our own company as a way for Kika to have a OPT visa to stay in the states for one year. We did one project over the summer that same year, that allowed us to buy Uma for $3k USD. then we just went along with it. We had just enough saved from another project in Haiti to last a year on the hard to work on the boat. When we left the US and sailed to Haiti in 2016, we had zero money left. From that point on, the channel grew just enough that we were making about $500 a month for the first 2 years. Every dime we made went into starting that journey. But since we were in the Caribbean, with no other expenses to worry about other than food. we were doing just fine And slowly and steadily over the course of 9 years, the youtube channel started to grow more, and we slowly were able to better balance what we spend on ourselves VS what we can invest in the boat or the channel. Here are two other videos that may help answer your question: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zdKcJxaTLSc.htmlsi=fGhlrcwhxytZwUkZ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pD1dbX4wGtQ.htmlsi=B5uPJ_1fW6R0349_ Cheers :) DK
Dan... Consider Kika is short and you are tall. That brings to memory of Dawid and Goliath story... just want to say you guys wath out with that stones.
I'm sorry 😂 but i kinda loose it when you call it a truck it's a 4wd i know it's because we're from different countries i still feel like pulling my hair out 😂😂 Live you guy's tho truly great video's
A lovely episode. You two look more relaxed and happier than in recent times, productive and important as they have been. I can’t think of other RU-vid channels that straddle sailing and van life, with the occasional Biblical (hmm) throwback.
Ok, info on ice maker function probably dictated by the science behind what agent is used to cool things down. Tradition type of in home portable ice machine requires you to wait for an equilibration of internal agent after moving the ice maker around. Machine needs to be level and still to operate appropriately: so no making ice moving down a bumpy uneven road. Just my two cents from using an ice machine at home.
Of all the people who are sailing the glove, Dan, you could tell that "I have started this electric motor sailing thingie when there is nothing like that existed!" We are the witnesses!
It is more admirable to let others say it. Thanks for reminding us of that Dan, Kika, and UMA are famous for pioneering role sailboat electrification. I recall a video in which UMA is sailing silently on a canal out of a Dutch harbor. As she passes a group of schoolboys watching the boats go by from atop a canal wall, one says in Dutch: "There goes UMA, She sails world!"
