I love this idea! I have a jeep wrangler Sahara and was going to take a trip to South Carolina in September. I thought I would get a hotel but now that I seen this, I may just rig my jeep out to sleep in it. Thanks Patrick and John

***..That Jeep is in great shape .. good for you John. I also converted my own 2008 Jeep Liberty, also in GREAT shape with only 85,000 km, no rust whatsoever no where .. now with no more back seats ( permanently ) the co-pilote' seat is banded down and pulled to it's maximum in front, without it's head holder ( so it's condemned ) I used it as table only and it gives more space for my bed ( 68"x28"x7"thick ).. I built with cherry wood and stained my built bed & armoire turquoise and lime-green, and once all finished .. it's quite "SHARP" I'm very proud of my plan.***

Thank you for covering car-campers. There are many of us out there, and we can really use space-saving, money-saving ideas! He really has some clever ones! I appreciate his covering the suspension, as I also travel in a 4WD. Definitely have keys hidden around. And having a place to sit up is also extremely important, especially when you have rain days.

Idea: for those stubborn pins, you could put them in so that you pull them down from underneath (using body weight to assist), and maybe use cotter pins to make sure they don’t slip out while in transit.

Thanks. I took allot of inspiration from boat building. Folk have been living out of boat and making use of unusual spaces way longer than we’ve been living out of cars! There were three primary bulkheads that made up the backbone of this design. One solid one right behind the seats, one in the middle which was only interrupted by the pass through compartment, and the last one the surrounded the kitchen. I took quite a few days to parce out all the design requirements before I actually designed around them. It’s important to know what you’re must haves will be before you set up the architecture, then design around that. I bought those waste paper baskets and cot, way before anything else went into the vehicle.

No, not really. I wasn’t wheeling all that hard. I follow the mantra of Slow as possible, fast as necessary. If you check out my Instagram you can see some of what I did. As far as the bikes. I had them on the roof before. Too tall to fit down the trails, and really bad for fuel economy.

WOW.... i am a jeep guy. I love them however 2 things they ate not good at are cargo capacity and tow capacity. Wonder if he ever put that on a CAT scale. I promise you he is way overweight. Nice make shift suspension. Personally i went with AEV suspension. No sag even towing a moderate 180LB hitch weight on an extended 11 inch receiver hitch.

Neither of those stoves ended up being a waste of space. If you didn’t notice much of the space inside that vehicle was dedicated towards food or food prep. About half, I would say. Each one got used about once a day; The back one more often if it wasn’t such a pain to get into the whole kitchen setup on account of the bike rack. What’s your point?
