I've actually admired trailers since I was a child which was in the late 70's & early 80's. My ex sister in-law tried to tell me that anyone who lives in a trailer or trailer court is "trailer trash" & I cannot believe that. As long as it's well-built, well-insulated, clean, has windows & a front & back door, & has a washer & dryer hook-up in it, I would love to live in one, especially if it's out in a place where there's trees around!!!

I lived in a trailer part since I was 6 I’m now 14 and I just moved out 2 days ago. I enjoyed my first like 5-6 years there. After a while we met new people and stuff who also lived in the park. Specifically a couple. They where crazy, they did a bunch of witch craft and shit. Now don’t get me wrong not everyone was like this. But these two people where just absolutely insane. The lady would say she died and came back to life. She was the “chosen one”. Once we met these people my family and our life went downhill. They did things to hurt us and stuff. But if we had never met these people our experience living in the trailer park would have been great you know? I’m more than happy that we are out now. It’s been long enough...

I love my trailer. I can have it moved if I get tired of being in the park. We've had our trailer moved once from another town. We've been in this park for 5 years, it's not been bad. Lot rent has not increased in the 5 years we've been here. The park is privately owned, a husband and wife, own it. They say they have no intention of increasing lot rent unless water or trash price goes up. Our lot rent is 185 a month, including water and trash. We don't have a mortgage, so.... can't live any cheaper than that...lol

Thank you for a great video. I live in one of the many corporate owned parks in my area. It's one of the larger mobile home parks, more like a regular neighborhood. The common areas are maintained by a full time maintenance man and we have a full time park manager. Most of these parks require a background check, a credit check, and absolutely no felonies are allowed. We have a cute and comfortable 3 bedroom, two bath home, two sheds, and a nice yard. We are baby boomers who can have a nice place to live for way less than apt rent, and own our home which was only 23,000 dollars and is paid off. There are also cons, but you find those no matter where you live. This home was a practically brand new repo, that we bought from the park at cost. Of course they make their money through the park rent, and we get a low cost place to live and call our own.

If you are ready to buy consider an older rehabbed mobile home. Many of them have replaced the original walls with drywall and even if it is not every room it helps a lot.

Now as for living in a "trailer" (manufactured home) Or double wide trailer vs. a traditional home. The pros was that in my manufactured home, it was all one floor. The laundry room was right off the kitchen. I could do laundry and cook dinner without a problem. I could take the laundry to different rooms with out lugging it up steps. Having all one floor is what makes manufactured homes great for the elderly or handicapped people. There were a lot of elderly and handicapped people in my trailer park. Many elderly people moved to the trailer park that lived in traditional homes. They wanted to down size. In my new traditional home, the washer/dryer is in the basement. The major con were the walls. My manufactured home was new when I bought it (2915) and it had theses graphite walls. The had a permanent wall paper like pattern on them. (So you couldn't change it) Also the walls were so thin and weak! They got holes in them very easily. I grabbed a built in towel rack too hard and it put a huge hole in the wall! When my daughter wrote on the walls, it never came off! Those walls are very difficult to paint over. In my traditional home, you got regular walls.

I became a trailer park resident back in 1991 because I was being squeezed out of the rental market yet could not afford house payments and upkeep. In my opinion, if you choose to go this route, KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I could write a small book on all the things I've experienced--having to relocate due to park closure, among other things; and my advice now is that if you have any other housing options, don't move into a park. Yes, it beats living under a bridge. And yes, you have more privacy, etc. But you are at the mercy of the park owners and it is so easy to end up being taken advantage of. You actually have less rights than if you rented an apartment. You can also find yourself trapped, especially if you own your own home. You see, as long as your home is physically on their property, you are responsible for lot rent whether you live there or not. Many parks have restrictions on subletting and selling can be a nightmare. For example, the park-owned house next door to me sat empty for almost a year before new tenants moved in. This is a brand-new double-wide. So don't assume your house will sell quickly--it may not and meanwhile you still have to pay lot rent on top of whatever mortgage or rent payments you have at your new place. Moving is another nightmare--it's expensive as all hell and trying to find a place that will accept your home, well, have fun. And don't even think of just walking away from it. The park owners can and will go after you legally.

Mobile homes in a mobile home park are a comfortable lifestyle. I've owned two of them and the nice thing is you own the home without owning real estate. So you can co what you want in your home as you wish. I've been considering buying another one in the south. I've been looking at 3 bedroom, two bathroom homes for the possibility of sharing it with other people. I agree with what you are saying about having your own yard and having more freedom than living in an apartment. I agree with you about having a mobile home in high wind areas, not a good idea. I have been checking out areas of the country where that would not be a big concern. I have also considered buying a nice travel trailer and living in that. There are parks where you can rent a lot for them also. The nice thing about them is that if you need to move quickly, you just hook and book. Since I have a new pickup truck it would not be hard for me.

There's good and bad people wherever you live. good park management will kick druggies and partiers out. What I like ( where I live) is the maintenance. only a couple hours to do the dishes, laundry, floors and cut the grass and the rest of the weekend is yours. For sewage and water, anything above the ground is your responsibility, under ground is the park. A house could cost you 10,000 and up to fix any underground problems. rent and property taxes go up too, so trailers are still more affordable. they are cold. the further away from the furnace the colder like living rooms and kitchens. poor insulation in the floors. finally, it dosen't matter about tornadoes and earthquakes. trailer, house or apartment, if one hits, your screwed lol. also, its usually harder to get a mortgage and insurance for mobile homes.

Thank you for your details on mobile home living. Yours is wonderful with the charming floral walkway! I'm considering purchasing a very good deal on a single wide but I'm concerned that the homes are very very close so that if the walls are so thin, I'll not have any privacy and that is at the top of my list! I agree they are very affordable to purchase; I'll upgrade the kitchen & bath and hopefully sell it in 1 to 2 years for a profit.

Lot rents pay for your water and sewer and in some parks it also pays you trash pick up, your lot rent is not that high. I pay $220. per month and they remove the snow every winter too. Snow removal can cost as much as$500. per storm and a bad winter can cost alot of money.

I think in most trailers (the fairly newer ones anyway) the insulation is very good. Actually my family member lives in a trailer that's probably from the 70s and it's always cool in the summer and nice and warm the winter. Poor insulation can be a problem with trailers but I don't think it's usually the case. My trailer is new and the insulation is great

I have a very large lot with a nice back yard next to the woods. Lot rent is now $150 a month. So for $150 a month I have a pretty nice place to live. My trailer is a 1984 12X65 two bedroom 1 bath. I have been able to save a shit load of money living here and will retire at 58 years old this year.

I live in a house but I heard that people who live in trailer parks around here pay close to $600 a month for the lot rent. 2br apt is double that price so it is still better to live in a trailer. If I had to live in a trailer I would just buy a land and put the trailer on it. The trailer is cheap, you can save up cash for a used one and have a mortgage on the land. Once the land is payed for, you can save up money and get construction loan to build a house on your own land.

Back in the mid 80's a good friend of mine lived in a trailer park and people could be brutal. Any confrontation, and they happen in junior high a lot, and people would remind him that he lived in a trailer park. We all know the name they use. He started to kind of shutdown and not stand up for himself knowing what they would eventually say. I think the 80's were more bullyish though. He kind of grew big so people did not tease him eventually but what of others? People can suck at times. I've never lived in a trailer park but I have been in some nice ones.

Abigail May okay I don't know how I got here but I just wanted to say that I would rather live in my car before I live in a trailer park or even near one. Before I say this I would like to say that no I'm not saying that people who live in trailer parks are all bad. I'm just saying it's a weird place. Yours might be different whatever trailer park I've ever had The Misfortune of being near. Cons: Playing crappy music at 2 a.m. in the morning . Most people in general could ignore the racism but I've always noticed that in places like a trailer park there's always what I can only refer to as the worst family there. It's like that family unit is the king of the rats. Any attempt made to attack the Wet rat pack leader will be in vain. As everyone else will defend them even if that family the same one bullying them. I'm sorry but there are no real pros to living in a trailer park or the projects. Either way good video keep doing your thing. And my number one reason for not wanting to live near one is I don't want a cat fly through my window again while I'm driving. I'm dead serious I was driving and a cat got hurled on the other side. O.O . The worst part about this story is not the fact that I almost got in a car accident because of this. It's the fact that I kept the cat because it was too scared to go back there . So now when I have friends over my house they asked why my cat is so defensive about being picked up. Then I just tell him he has PTSD because he's been used as a baseball a few times in the past .

So far the people I've met are all really nice and I feel very safe in general. Most people here just kind of keep to themselves, and I know that other parks are very different than mine. I'm sorry about the bad experience :(

Yeah, there are some newer ones that look really nice! The older ones are usually needing some TLC, but if the amount of work needed isn't too bad, an older one can be worth it too.

do you not have central heat and air?,,i lived in an old 60's era trailor in the 80's and it was bad ass,,i loved it,,and it was very comfortable to live in,i had central heat n air so I loved that old trailor..the landlord had put in four phone post at the front and back on each side and built a roof and porch over the trailor,im from texas so even with the heat, bitter cold, strong winds and hail,it was safe.

I mainly use an oil furnace for my heat, but I also have a wood stove. I don't need the heat a lot yet because it's not super cold yet. And I had to have an air conditioner installed over the summer. The furnace does an amazing job keeping the place warm.

Ive got a good spot. My tailers got a huge field right next to it, we have a seimming pool, 3 playgrounds, basketball and tennis court, good neighbors, good roads, sidewalks, mailbox at the front of the park, stores right next to it, speed bumps literally everything you could ask for. If not better.

Oh and clubhouse plus a waterfall and creek right by it. And we have to keep up and make our hard look nice. Doesnt look just plain either. 1 car garage a big wooden shed and a metal shed. 4 bedroom, double wide trailer 2 bathroom and shower and bath tub.

You're gorgeous. On the heat; have you tried putting on a 'sun reflecting foil' on the top/ southern side of the trailer?! It reflects the heat and is easily applied. I have one on my window!

Im only living in one until my 6,890 square feet Victorian House is built its taking longer then usual. And I think my neighbors want to kill me I dont know for a fact but ive been getting hints what hints you may be asking well my neighbors boyfriend sits outside on his porch holding his shotgun and looking directly at me and gives me a hateful look and why do they hate me well i corrected them on my last names pronunciation see my last name is Hance and its German so they said it "Han-Ce" but its prounced "Hans-Ce" if you need a little help the Han part is pronuced like Han Solo and just as Ce at the end and i corrected how they said Beretta so ya cant wait to leave

My buddy lives in a single wide, and I just moved to a decent sized modern home from an apartment. I should have jumped to something like a trailer or cheap old house in a bad area instead of renting for 15 years. Now I look back at my time in an apartment as a prison.

The biggest "con" is the land can get sold out from under you and you are stuck. It is happening all over the US, with mobile home owners losing everything.

Parks around here __ midwest__are about 400 a month. It is high as you can get a decent apartment for 700. So I am still considering oddly water is included in apt rent but Not the lot fee!

Hi Abigail, I also live alone! I live in an old duplex style apartment. The insulation upstairs is really bad, haha. Anyway, I actually walked past a nearby trailer park today & wondered what it was like to live there. Your video was helpful. I realize that this video is old. In any case, I hope that you are well! : )

Great and helpful and informative video - I used it because at school we are reading 'Looking for Alaska' and one of the characters grew up on a trailer park. Just one thing: at one point you use the term 'white trash' as if it were an established objective term whereas it is in fact hugely offensive.

In my trailer park it's mostly elderly people and yes, a few druggies on the far side. (Definitely don't walk that road when exercising) but also quiet a few family's with only 1 child. I my self am a teen and all the teens in the park are really close.

Yup , people need to see how fortunate they are.. if you take care of your home and have low debt not a slave to a mortgage that's a blessing... I am looking at mobile parks as investment. PS , rethink the room mate thing. Once they have residency you have to evict them if there is a problem. , but I guess there are good tenants, that's what he or she would be. Make sure you make a lease if you decide to have a tenant as well as write out everything in thd lease...

It was cheaper alright instead of buying a real estate....It's the land owners that will prevent other prospectors into buying a trailer home because of the high monthly rent of the land. Eventually when profit is down these land owners starts selling the entire property just like some apartment owners they started raising for profit & when people moved else where apartment owners starts selling everything to the bank these profiteers cannot even maintain their property & slapped by government taxes choose to gamble

I love my trailer. Yes, it is true people said that in the trailers live people that have no work and are in drugs. I don't disagree with them and I said "yes, ok" We do have central heating and ac. Also, I have to qualify first to live in park, then buy the house. My house is two bathrooms and three bedrooms. I do have front and back yard, I can park three cars, and have a small storage.

I'd love a vid on exterior and interior tour. Seriously considering it for longterm res. Toronto housing is just beyond realistic for me rn. I don't know how people purposely go in to 25 yrs+ mortgages for houses that cost avg $800,000. No thanks. Also i wonder, since I live in canada, are trailer lots yr round? or seasonal residencies?
