Sticking with the beet harvest until the very end is proof that you have the strength and determination that it takes to homestead! I'm really proud of you and I know you are so proud of yourself accomplishing this! Farming is a lot of hard work from seed to harvest - for a season. (Farm family right here! LOL) Enjoy the season of rest now! Well done! I'm so glad I found your channel!
Thank you so much! I know homesteading won't be easy and sometimes people roll their eyes when I tell them it's what I want to do, as if I won't last. I believe I can do it. I appreciate your comment.
“Ok, you go pray!” Honestly, people may be and look different, but in these crazy times, a person of prayer is a breath of fresh air. ❤ Glad you made some money. You did it! 😊
Super proud of you for taking the chance and pushing yourself to finish what you started👏🏿. Us Black and POC should seriously consider taking up space in all these opportunities as long it doesn’t pose imminent danger to us. RIP to the person that lost their life 😢
Thank you, and I agree 😊. On the last day, my one remaining coworker, as well as people from management, complimented my work ethic & told me I surprised them by staying until the end. It felt good to be a positive representation for POC, Muslims, and even women (because I was the only woman who stayed). Thanks, again.
I’ve met quite a few of us POC that are doing more seasonal work. I wish there was more of us actually getting out here and seeing the national parks and stuff like that and the best way to do it is to work for them and so many of them hire seasonal work and you work one season you come back the next and it’s great. Most of the national parks, of course provide room and or room and board..
Long work days with no time off seems to contradict all their safety talk. They've never been my favorite veg, but I'll never think of beets the same way when i consider buying them. I certainly didn't know lives are risked to bring them to the table. Thanks for an eye opening video!
Beautiful to hear that you had a great experience!! Glad that you stayed until the end and were well compensated!! Beautiful photos…! It’s wonderful being “different” and having the opportunity to meet different people. That was my main experience in college. As much as we are different, we are more alike than anything. #humanrace #livinglife
I really enjoy watching your experiences. While I'm someone who could probably never do this (way too out of shape) I am going to be starting van life soon (I finally got a van!) and it's good to see others and what goes on, just in case maybe one day I can. But man, the cold, rain and working every day? For 12 hrs or more? Phew...girrrrl, I give you big PROPS! I don't know if I could ever do that...maybe for a few days but that's about it! I love the ending (looking for something positive and meeting cool peeps!) and I do the same thing in life now, which has been a big change for me from the pits of heartbreak and depression (depression all my life)...much love sis!
@@simmpleenough Thank you! And yea...of course I am! I'm going on my first big excursions at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb...1st in Quartzsite and the second near Marana, AZ (I live in Phoenix!)...much love to you as well 💜
I remember learning about the pioneers expanding west in wagon caravans. Sometimes children would get in the way of the wheels (not sure how, maybe walking alongside the a while yo lighten the load) and be crushed. Or horses that may have gotten spooked and kicked someone walking alongside. I could never imagine it, but I knew it wasn't as romanticized like we see on tv/LHOP & HM channel .😕
Salaams Girl !!! Mashallah, finally i see a hijabi doing Van-Life.... I just bumped into one of your videos two days ago and could not figure out why you had those beautiful scarves...then last night i heard you and "Mussa" greeting eachother and i said, Aha, these are a Muslim couple. Yes, I'm also a hijabi Muslim, living in Toronto, Canada, but was born in Kenya (!) Yes...but of east Indian origin. I dream of vanlife but I'm already 74, a grandmaa, going for knee surgery soon, ....but I can live my dream through brave people like you....yes? I wish you all the Blessings and make dua for your safety and happy life with Mussa...he sounds so gorgeous, Mashallah 🤲💕
Salaam!! I'm glad you found me. It seems a lot of other Muslim sisters have found my channel recently and it makes me so happy 😊. And, yes, Musa is very gorgeous ❤️😊😊.
I am also a retired nurse who worked 12 hour shifts. During one of the busiest times, I accidentally signed up for 11 days in a row. Toward the end, I questioned my sanity more than once. You are a goddess! Congratulations for finishing.
i really enjoyed listening to your experience and i never heard of girls doing harvest jobs, at least on the other side of the world. I am waiting for more of this kind of experience.
Assalamualaikum I pray ur well. I'm so happy to have found your channel. I love your soothing voice. I'm a mum to a 22 Yr old & 18 Yr old & dream of travelling one day - my daughter was so inspired by one of your videos! She sometimes felt out of ace as a hijabi/niqab but now is happy to live her life ❤ Looking forward to your videos. I Find your narrating style very soothing. I'd happily watch a storytime type video too as well as more van life content. May Allah bless you with barakah & aafiyah-from Yorkshire, UK
I love your work ethic! I also love how mindful you are of wellness. Do you have allergies? I used to do that little click while I’m talking it turned out to be allergies. You can get help with than and sleep better at night.
Monique sweetie, you are back!!How am I just realizing this😊 It is so nice to have you back. I missed you on Sundays. I am so relieved to know that you are well and that you safely completed this chapter. I am so proud of you!🎉🎉 You really outdid yourself, and you ought to be so proud of yourself. (I am so sorry to learn that someone died, condolences to his family 😢) Thankful that you're okay. I kept praying that you'd be well and do well. The information will certainly help others who may be interested in giving it a try. Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Get your rest as needed. See you then!🙏♥️🤗
So proud of you that you lasted for the whole month. Hard work pays off and especially since you already knew that it was going to be for a month in advance. I’m quite sure when you look back at the paychecks it was worth it for a month.
I never comment bc I typically watch you on my tv. I just want to tell you I’m so grateful for you making this video. Thank you for the insight and clarification, I’m also of color. You are such a simple pleasant soul. Love your content keep it coming…and it always helps when content creators have str8 teeth😂 have a great day 👋🏾
After I graduated from school I worked 12 to 16 hour days for the most of 4 years. You get numb to it after awhile. And you rarely have a hard time going to sleep, even standing up.
Omg, I’m glad you got out there and did something different. When you made the original video announcing it. I looked up the beet harvest and thought “I could do that, I’ve worked long hours before.” But then you said you worked 22, 12 hour days in a row-IN THE COLD. I don’t know if I could have done that. I would have been crying too! I’d like to think I’d make it through but I’d be scared to get inside the machine and clean it! 😂😅 Shout out to you! I can’t wait to see what other adventures you go on and seasonal work that you do!
🌴☀️Dunno why I’m emotional watching this…I think it’s bec it’s good to hear from you & the seeing images of the work you were doing. Thanks and praise to the most high for your health & safety, I think this is something I could do…I did get my cdl license afterall💃🏽 (yeah that happened🤭). I’m happy you endured the weather & never ending hours, I’m familiar with this feeling after going thru trucking school. So, I hope your smiling from ear to ear all the way to the bank (or when you login hehe🤭) Any video you put out I’m like all into and all over it so I’m eagerly awaiting it…love you in spirit, as always so good to see your face and hear your angelic voice again. Right, I’m off to watch it again now☀️🌴
That’s amazing you stayed til the end. Your resilience is something to be proud of. Another RU-vidr “the campulance man was there. I saw his dog “lefty” at your gathering. So cool
Girl you are having so many adventures! You’re a hard worker so you know they will ask you back. I’m so happy for you and your new build. More blessings and adventures to come!
How cool! I stumbled upon your channel and I really like the vibes and honesty in your videos :) Beautiful stuff! You are inspiring me to take some chances and make some changes.
Congrats and Good on you! That's some tenacity for sure! Now you'll know to come prepared for super cold days with warmer clothes, boots, and easy & filling foods!! Chalk this up to another lesson for Homesteading as well! (And the $$ doesn't hurt!)
Thank you for sharing! Just found you this morning. With rent doubling it’s no longer an option for me. I’ve been homesteading while renting in the city hoping to eventually get land, but following nomadic life for a while. I’m concerned about safety as my soul dog left this world this year, but I’m really looking forward to stepping through this new door. Have you tried WWOOFing yet? I’m so interested in learning about gardening in other climates and conditions. I suppose you can stay put to do that. I’m in WI. No snow. 50s in almost January 🫠
I haven't tried WWOOFing, yet. I'm very curious about it and want to learn more. I think the main reason I haven't done it is because many of the opportunities I saw weren't paid; they were just free lodging in exchange for work. I prefer paid opportunities, but I'm gonna look into it some more. Thanks for reminding me!
That's amazing! DId they provide a way for you to wash your clothing? That's a lot of hard earthy dirt to handle - that would take a lot of time to handle clothing and freshen up.
Sawubona, Sisi. (I see you, sister) Grateful to catch up and hear an honest review for an extraordinary beetroot harvesting season. Would love to hear about the other seasonal work...national parks is one I'm familiar with...but yes. Also interested in international travel...border crossing experiences as a mobile dweller. Gratitude to your beautiful words of encouragement...I am taking odd in my can in 2 weeks and I was worrying a bit about the isolation and fear in the racial tension and dangers posted on the news on my city streets...but the "no one cares" the we are more alike than different part of the conversation, really resonated. Thank you for sharing your experiences, your thoughts and your perspective. That Outro!!!! I think it's an all time favorite shot sequence/captions. I am truly inspired! 😍🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yebo, sawubona, sis. I'm happy you enjoyed the video. I do plan to make a video discussing other seasonal jobs and you'll be hearing about my recent Canada border crossing experience soon 😊.
In agriculture, what are the laws for working with no time off. Even if its subcontracting, this does not sound legal. They are worried about drug use yet they physically wear a person down with long working days and no days off. This would be just as dangerous for a worker as using drugs or alcohol.
You go Gurl!!!! I don’t think I would have the strength or courage to do it, especially when it’s cold. What part of Canada are you thinking? I plan on going to Canada in the spring headed to the east coast. I hope you go to Canada and tell us you experience.
Thank you! I’m going to be in Ontario, but I don’t think I’ll stay for long. I’m just driving through on my way to the New England area of the U.S. I’ll probably spend more time up there in the spring or summer.
@@simmpleenough ok. I’m planning my trip to New England in the spring. Was thinking about going through Canada, but it looks like I’ll be going through Mackinac City instead. I’m coming from Wisconsin. It’s going to be a great adventure for me. Last spring I went to the west coast. I’ll keep watching your adventures. You’re just a brave girl to be in areas so isolated.
@simmpleenough I don't recall if you answered this or not, but for you, do you think this gig was worth making the trip up there now that it's come to an end? After stopping back in Chicago and opening my brick and mortar for a year. I think my choice to leave the road for a year was valid for me. I just made it back on the road. Travel route 66 from chicago all the way to Cali in 7 days. That was fun. I recommend most definitely getting the route 66 passport as it give ya Places to stop and see along the road. I'm at Arizona Kingman wash right now, but gonna head a lil further south. Maybe back to Yuma or lower Texas?!? 🤔 Depends on how their salvage yards and planet fitnesses are looking. LoL I'm gonna keep traveling and looking for parts at salvage yards to keep improving my vehicle little by little. Anyways...safe travels to you on your journey. If our paths cross one day on the road, feel free to say wzup. Blu of Blutintphotography.com
Very good. I do have one question which I hope you can answer: the guy who injured his ankle: how many days had he been working at this point? I'm wondering if fatigue played a part.
Did you ever add up the entire amount you earned gross. After taxes what do you think you will net and how many months will those earnings last you for your van living expenses?🌺🌻🌺
Yes, I made a little over $5,500 after taxes. I only require about $800/month to live, but I don't want to spend all of the money I just made, so I'm planning to start gig work again in January. I still have money I made from gig work earlier this year that I'm currently living on.
It's in several states; Idaho, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, North Dakota are the states I've heard. They might list them on the Beet Harvest website.
😊Hello. New subscriber here. I look forward to seeing you achieve your dreams😊 I also hope to settle remotely off-grid. I am saving and paying off debt right now while I take care of two people currently dependent on me. As soon as I can, I am hitting the road to find that, "I'll know and feel it when I see it piece of land that it is home".
Yes, two of my team members had to leave to get to another seasonal job they had a contract for. The third person volunteered when management asked 2 people to leave early. So, I was the only one left and joined another team. But one of the night shift teams all quit at the same time.
So are beets permanently off your menu after all the hard work you did working with them? Does your eye start to twitch when you see them in the store? Great job!
