Still trying to figure it out. I have everything I ever wanted and I'm still not happy. About to got the road to see if happiness is out there somewhere. Just FYI, I posted one of your cooking videos in my reddit and FB SUV women's groups. Cooking and being healthy doing vanlife is such a big deal. Everyone is all about hiking. No one is doing healthy eating, as I've said before. LOL. I think we will all benefit from this channel.

Seriously- and all you hear about is "sigma grindset" or "everyone is supposed to hate their job" The US has such a toxic view on working- and the 9 to 5 is making people suffer and if you complain or are disabled you're told to shut up! Sorry for the long comment lol- this just gets me fired up.

@AbiyahBina I love your channel as well Abiyah! Do you have any advice for single females that are car or van dwelling? Do we do this gradually if in an apartment, if we need to choose do we just go straight into car or van dwelling or slowly immerse ourselves into it? I’m trying to figure things out and I haven’t paired down yet with personal belongings but the idea of spending 1200 a month or rent is crazy. Thanks

Me too. 😢 63 in February. I spent my life working to get a degree, raise a family, ministries at church, try (and fail x 3) to build a career. Crushing disappointments, betrayals, injustices, etc. etc. For what? Nothing. I do have property. Also make $80K a year. Counting down the days and weeks - one more year until I have 5 years with this state job and can apply for retirement. So many regrets, but hoping to be free too someday. My dream is to live in a van, leisurely mornings, eating slowly and deciding what to do with myself for the day.

I've been a van lifer for two years and loving it. I worked all my life, 23 years in the military and several jobs afterwards. I was able to pick and choose jobs that were gratifying. Only one job was stressful and that was a corporate job as a supervisor for a large medical organization. After three years I resigned from a $75K position to making $10 an hour and I was happy. I am 76 and collect a pension and social security and have low debt, my van note and two credit cards with low balances. I travel wherever the compass takes me. I use gyms and truck stops to shower. My days are not usually planned. I love being a nomad.

You’re living the dream! I hate that I have to spend the majority of my time working just to pay off debt. I’d rather be free though like you. Living in my car, then bus, and now a reliable new mini-SUV has stabilized my income so much and I’m actually making real progress on my debt now. My story with school and work is actually fairly similar to yours. I studied mechanical engineering because I thought that’s what I needed to make a good income. Hated it and kept getting laid off so I went back to school to finish my piano performance degree. I taught for about 5 years and loved it but the way I was working and the amount of time I had to put in to teach and perform to make a living made me not really care about music anymore. It wasn’t the way I wanted to work. I’ve been driving delivery vans the last couple years and making surprisingly good money at it but there’s an end date to it that I have to look forward to once my debt is paid off or my channel makes enough money I can quit. It’s nice to see someone that’s made it and can really start living in a way that makes them happy!

So glad you have made your choice now...I made the choice at 53yrs. Better late than never. I do not live in my vehicle but I live in a small space with my own entrance. I have a small bathroom, small basic kitchen (no dishwasher or disposal), and a small room with a full sized bed. My space is literally a small square but I absolutely love it. And it's about every aspect of your life : job, kids, Education,housing... minimalism helps me to refuse consumerism and debt. Even buying a huge house isn't worth it. Now the real estate bubble is going to explode, a lot of people are going to lose everything because of greed. It's very sad. Take care.

Wow , I can relate to this so well ! I too got in to debt trying to get my first degree! Just picking any major to make my family happy . It was either the military or college (I come from a military family as well.) I wasn’t even happy with that major . Growing up My family often viewed me as the “gifted” person of the family due to gifted classes , my high reading levels , etc. It all can be so much at times and I do not think they realize how much pressure it can be . The military only paid for some of my parent's college tuition. I think I could've received some assistance from the military, but my parents didn't know about that option until I had already graduated. My cousin is an army brat, too, and she's currently finishing law school for free because her dad was military. Wish I would've known about that, but at least my debt is paid now!

Girl...slow mornings are where it's at! I currently have a low cost life...and I have those slow mornings. I also am planning on doing the same thing soon... just waiting on a settlement check to begin my journey. I used to work 40-45 sometimes over 45hrs per week...NO MORE. I was raising my kid at the time but now I'm 46, living in a situation I don't want to be in and this seems like my only alternative...I so feel you. I never wanted a house... really? I just want to travel and take photographs. HOPEFULLY one day it will become my income (I did sell a calendar) but for now I deliver, which I can do on the road...it starts soon ☺️

Sounds like a wonderful life. I was just conversing with someone about my inability to enjoy life when I was in debt. Their viewpoint was the same as yours...they don't overly stress about debt and bills and always make sure to do things that bring them joy. I admire people who can live in the moment, instead of constantly worrying about bills and other problems. I'm super happy to have paid off my debt, but I hope to adjust that part of my personality so I can enjoy life despite piling bills or whatever frustrations life throws at me.

Thank you! I just retired from a $100k+/yr, high stress engineering job at 60 y.o., and some people are giving me some guff. There is a narrative going around, naturally by people not even close to "retirement age," that one should aspire to never quit working. It makes me angry. I loved your outro! Although my situation is slightly different in me being older, I feel the premise. As for my dream life...I do have a hobby I love and am good at, that being trading in the financial markets, at my own pace, and only for myself. I live a a fairly minimalist life in a "Destination trailer" that is parked in a relatively economical permanent situation. I'm not into traveling too much anymore; I've had my day, But I should get out into nature a little more than I do...

Ramadan Kareem, Monique. I accidentally stumbled on one of your videos and I just couldn't stop watching more than one and ultimately subscribed. :) I totally agree with you about the lack of work/life balance here in the US. As an African who migrated to Europe in my early teens and spent 13 years there (university and the whole shebang), I thought it'd be better here and moved to the US in pursuit of the "American Dream". I think you should go back to Europe to live there as an adult because, as we say over there: "Americans live to work, Europeans work to live." They have an AMAZING work/life balance that somehow seems to work perfectly well (free education, my university tuition was $150/year!!! and free healthcare while taxes are only slightly higher and I didn't complain paying taxes because someone had to foot the bill for my education so it's only normal you do the same.) I didn't even know the word "tuition" until I had an interview with the Assistant Dean of the School -- I thought "tuition" meant that it was going to cover everything (school, rent, books...etc.) I laugh when I think about that interview and the misunderstandings as I asked if I could choose the dorm where I'd be assigned and she was confused..... She took 20 minutes to explain to me that tuition was for school ONLY. I just couldn't wrap my head around it so I wasn't understanding what she meant, like $35k for a year, and she's telling me I can go live wherever I please?? Anyhow, I think it's insanity that people leave college or grad school, as in my case, burdened by soo much debt, it's exactly what you called it: modern slavery. Anyhow, thanks for your videos and I wish you and Moussa all the best! You're inspiring! Much love!

I'm leaving in October I can't live with toxic people anymore. It makes me a different person and I don't like it . I did this life three years ago but for a different reason. Only time I physically and mentally do well. Keeping all in my heart ❤️

Wow, living in your car since 2006 is awesome. You’ve saved so much money on rent/mortgage! I plan to live in a vehicle until I can pay for land in cash and build a small home. It’s so nice to hear from people who have been living this lifestyle, by choice, for a long time 😊.

Hello young lady. I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I thoroughly enjoy the simplicity of your lifestyle as well as your honesty. Particularly about the fact that " you do not like working. It is very freeing. Being truthful, particularly to myself, is something I'm really working on, these days. Admitting things about myself that others might dislike. Learning to be okay with my thoughts and feelings despite the unwanted perception it might cause others to have of me. I love it. Thank you so much for subscribing 😊❤️.

Burned this exceller out with life. This is how most youngsters get to their future. But like her some find this is not the life they wanted. Especially with girls. I remember in school in my thirties this conversation of now we were studying and doing what we wanted to be. Brave to drop out and follow her own dreams and trying to find her direction. Good luck.

My mortgage company has been going up on my mortgage, my salary has not increased with the mortgage increase. I can either put up with this and look forward to roomates or let it all go and do what you are doing. I too am tired of the work thing. I have not seen much of life or the world, due to working a thankless job. I thank God for the fact that my faith is letting me know that 40 years ago, I faced this and opted for the "good ole work life" this time I won't make the same mistake.
